This was originally posted by Violin but was lost after the hack. Here is what I could find off of the google cache. Thanks Violin!

With the wheels straight ahead, put a piece of tape with a line drawn on it to mark the center position of the steering wheel.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/1103/rjenkie/Picture080.jpg

DISCONNECT THE NEGATIVE BATTERY CABLE and go surf internet porn or something. I wait at least 5 minutes to be sure that the airbag is safely asleep.

Use a #30 torx wrench and remove the bolts at the back of the steering wheel. They won’t come out; just loosen them all the way.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/1103/rjenkie/Picture022.jpg

Pull the airbag.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/1103/rjenkie/Picture025.jpg

Unplug the horn wire, pop up the little yellow tabs on the airbag plugs and remove them.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/1103/rjenkie/Picture027.jpg

Set the airbag aside with the Toyota emblem facing up.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/1103/rjenkie/Picture034.jpg

Remove the center nut from the steering wheel.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/1103/rjenkie/Picture044.jpg

Using a steering wheel puller, remove the steering wheel and set it aside.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/1103/rjenkie/Picture049.jpg

Remove the three screws holding the cowling in place and pop it apart.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/1103/rjenkie/Picture051.jpg

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/1103/rjenkie/Picture056.jpg

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/1103/rjenkie/Picture057.jpg

Unplug the two connectors on the wiper stalk.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/1103/rjenkie/Picture060.jpg

Depress the clip holding the wiper stalk in place and remove it.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/1103/rjenkie/Picture062.jpg

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/1103/rjenkie/Picture067.jpg

Install the new wiper stalk so that it clicks into place.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/1103/rjenkie/Picture069.jpg
Plug the two connectors into the new stalk.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/1103/rjenkie/Picture071.jpg

Reattach the cowling.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/1103/rjenkie/Picture073.jpg

Wind this center spiral cable counterclockwise all the way until it won’t turn any more. Turn it back clockwise 2.5 turns and align the marks at the bottom.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/1103/rjenkie/Picture073.jpg

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/1103/rjenkie/Picture074.jpg

Put the steering wheel back on and align your tape marks.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/1103/rjenkie/Picture080.jpg

Reinstall the center nut.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/1103/rjenkie/Picture081.jpg

Plug in the airbag and horn.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/1103/rjenkie/Picture085.jpg

Tighten the torx screws in the back and you’re done!

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/1103/rjenkie/Picture087.jpg

The variable speed front works but the intermittent rear won’t without additional wiring.

Total elapsed time: 30 minutes including taking photos.

Thanks Violin..... I wanted to get this reposted before it disappeared from google cache...DanQ

In the same thread "chipchip" responded:
When installing the wiper switch there is no need for removing the steering wheel. I had no trouble when I removed the plastic steering shaft shrowd halves. After removing the 3 fasteners take care when pressing in on the side seams and wiggle- pull apart. If you are not carefull you might break the clips. It would be interesting to see if someone has purchased the smaller female plug from a Matrix with the extra wiring and figure out where this extra wire goes. Maybe it's a ground? If so you would only have to run it to a fastener thru metal and attach. I will talk to an auto technician and see what he thinks. Chipchip......If anyone is tired of having their Yaris floor matt hooks come out when you slide your feet forward while getting into the drivers seat then carefully drill a small hole in the center of the plug end of the hooks. Then get a short screw that when screwed through will force the inner clips out and keep them there. Make sure the clips are through the holes before screwing the screws in.

Sorry to revive an old thread, is the steering wheel puller tool, compulsory to remove the steering wheel? And just as a question, how would I access the headlight stalk to replace it, it appears to be behind the centre spiral piece? So do I have to remove the centre spiral piece too?

Thanks in advance.

Having changed out my wheel I can answer that a wheel puller is not needed. I gently tapped with a rubber mallet and the wheel lifted right off. As I recall, I performed the wheel change in about 30 min.

I can't help with the headlight issue....sorry.

I had to use the puller tool but it was cheap ($20 at Napa).

you don't need too remove the steering wheel for this mod, unless you
are putting the fog light combo stalk on as well

I'd hope so... I'd have to keep the car for a few millennia to break even on time spent/saved doing it this way.

A DIY without removing the wheel/airbag would be great.

Looking at the ToyoDIY, the 07 Camry switch looks veeeeerrrrrrry similar to the ones suggested above. Have any sedaners verified it'll work?

I'll keep an eye out for one, or convince my Camry owning friend to let me borrow his. *crosses fingers*

I bought a new 2008 Camry wiper switch with variable speed intermittent settings (the whole reason for the swap) from my friendly local Toy dealer. Pulled the two plastic shells around the wheel, apart. Carefully unplugged the connectors from the factory switch, and plugged in the new. One of the smarter decisions I've made in my life! Happy Swapping!

My other car is a 65 Shelby with a couple of extra horses than my beloved Yaris Sedan!! and yes dang it, I love my Yaris. Just wish Toyota had a better design for the funky storage little nooks and crannies in the cabin. Also would like to see them put turn signals on the outside mirrors. Scion does! How about factory installed steering wheel radio and cellphone controls? Hey Toyota, you do this for cars you sell in Pakistan, why not the US bound units???!! What gives? We help keep your doors open man. You need to better equip cars you send here.

Peace out!

Didn't you have to remove the airbag and the steering wheel?

Follow CTScott's installation instructions. I haven't done it, but it
looks rather easy. :iono:

Does this apply to all years of Yaris in North america? at least 2009?

The variable speed front works but the intermittent rear won’t without additional wiring.

After replacing the original switch with model 02410, my rear wiper works on both intermittent and continuous positions of the dial - without any additional wiring. I'm not sure if it is something unique to the model, SCP90L-CHMGKW, but wanted to share this pleasant surprise.

Do you mind posting the part# of the wiper switch?

Some research has shown that all these below should work:
84652-02410,
84652-0E050,
84652-47040,
84652-48030,
84652-48060,
84652-48110,
84652-48180,
84652-48190.

I am going to the junkyard to get this stalk, I found a rear hatch for 50$ in town with wiper. It would be good to have that in the winter.Too bad the keyless entry won't open on my phone.....Put the stalk in my car today it was raining.I enjoyed using the settings on it.I could only find it used at a auto wrecker where you don't pull the part yourself $50.I brought a screwdriver with me and changed it without removing the steering wheel.
