Scangauge location within car

I'm considering getting a scangauge or a similar device for my yaris as soon as I can afford it, but I was wondering where did you all install yours? I just saw a post of someone that installed it inside the glove box behind the wheel, that seems like a good idea, but it would be nice if others could voice their opinions and say where they installed theirs (and why). Of course pics are always good :biggrin:.

Ran the cable inside the dash...... up the pillar....... tucked into the headliner over to the mirror. Cheap, easy and out of view in that part of the windshield.

they make a mounting bracket to mount the SG there


i was going to do the under the HU placement but have an indash double din dvd player on the way... so its probably going to get installed on the drivers side glove box

The bracket cost $$$ this is free. The velcro is attached to the top of the rearview mirror.

How is the illumination on the SG (brightness-wise) when mounted above the mirror? Is it easy to read during daylight? How about distractingly-bright relative to the mirror at night?

How about mounting in front of the gauge cluster, just above the stereo. Seems like it would be far enough in front of the cluster to not block the view of the gauges and be in a place we frequently look.

Anyone done this?

I move my ScanGauge from car to car each week. In the second video on this page (a valiant 50 MPG attempt), you can see the cord wrapped around the steering column, with the Gauge secured (and I use that term loosely) :rolleyes: to the top of the column with a couple of Velcro loops.

You can "custom color" the light and I have mine on the brightest standard green setting and I can see it w/o being distracting at all.

Works fine in daylight too.

I did something similiar to the previous post but velcrowed it on the dash just behind the steering wheel. Wiring is hidden and I can see it just fine, I can also remove it from the car easily if I want to.

Echo Hrs is a nice setup but if you leave the stock radio in it will not work.

If you mount it on the steering column then you are needing to take your eyes to a whole new spot. The one in the photo has 4 places for your eyes..... nav, steering column, gauges, center rear view mirror.

With mine mounted on top of the mirror at is natural to glace and see it while checking the mirror.

It's all a matter of personal choice. You can purchase an additional cable-plug from scangauge to ease transfers to another car.
