Killington’s trick or treat - Slopes open Sunday
11:56 a.m.
October 31, 2008

Staff Report

Killington Resort has announced its own treat this Halloween.

The slopes will open for skiers and boarders Sunday, two weeks earlier than planned.

Communications Manager Tom Horrocks said the resort is opening as a result of a massive snowmaking effort by resort employees over the past couple days with freezing or near-freezing temperatures resulting in snow coverage sufficient for good skiing and riding.

Horrocks said Killington Peak received 10 inches of snow Tuesday and Wednesday. The ski area started making snow early Tuesday morning.

For an up to the minute snow report and information on the resort’s opening, see www.killington.com.

WOW. So, winter is here. Well at least in Vermont and areas north. It is suppose to be 75 here over the weekend (Sorry Bob).

I have never been snow skiing. I guess because it's not very available here. Could travel to NC or parts of Tennessee though. I can water ski. Is it similar?

I am not much of a cold weather person. I do think I like the looks of those ski lodges though with the huge roaring fires and maybe some hot chocolate or something. Now that appeals to me.

Well it's 75 here if you get closed to the heater!

Snow skiing is NOT like water skiing. When I water ski I can dive into the water if I start to fall...... here it is like trying to dive into a road! Water skiers rarely hit trees but snow shiers don't need a boat...... If you lose your top water skiing you can stay under water..... if you lose your top snow skiing you are a site to see!

In the ski lodge with all the pretty woman walking around that men never realize the fire is roaring!

The downside to all this are the tourists that invade us. Even though it is Tourist Season ...... shooting them for sport is frowned upon!
