Got the word from the local dealer that they will be getting a couple of the facelifted 2009 TS's before the end of the year.

Nothing surprising, except for the fact that they said the 2009 model comes with a 6spd tranny standard.

My first thought was that they were wrong as all the articles I've read about the 2009 model just mentioned the facelift (which I'm not a big fan of the look) but stated that the drive train remained unchanged.

Today I found this article about the Johannesburg International Motor Show and it mentions the 6speed
http://www.cartoday.com/content/news/singlepage.asp?in=9378

Can anyone of the of the European members confirm this news?

I'm not sure a 6speed will have much of advantage over the current C56 5speed as this one is already pretty short. But still it will be interesting to look into it.

it sure would! since i'm considering a C56 swap, a 6-speed would also be very attractive for my project.

I like the idea of closer gear ratios while still maintaining a tall top gear for interstate cruising. This is a sweet development...

Cool but to bad we will probably never get it here in the states.

CASTREX

That's right... but multiple drivetrain configurations on the same chasis would eventually open up the possibility of multiple swapping options.

Now we can say with a certain amount of confidence that a 1.8L 2ZR-FE engine swap into a US Yaris should be fairly easy. If you can source the engine/ecu from a wrecked Scion.

For the gains probably does not worth the money right now... but we will have to see how much love the 1.8 end up getting from the aftermarket community.

So far we are doing alright as we already have Richard's Manifold and NST Pulleys on the work table.

If we can actually make 145whp NA only with bolt ons as Richard has claimed... I would call that a start...

I'd just like the 6mt on the 1.5 so I can sit at a higher speed but lower RPM on the freeway.

You are 100% correct the 2009 has a 6spd manual box ,
taking one for a test drive in the week end if it arrives in time ,
otherwise it will be early next week ,will try and get photo's for all too see.

Please check on the plate on the drivers door.

The transmission used on the car should be stated there.

On the 2007-2008 would say C56

If this one comes with a 6speed it should say c60 or c160 or something like that.

That would share some light on the exact transmission used on the car.

Please also take some pictures of the engine bay.

And post all the specs you can find... I will like to know if there are any other difference.

Well,

It's confirmed. The 2009 Yaris TS comes equipped with a 6 speed man. Transmission.

The new transmission code is C67. Looks like this is a brand new transmission
just added to the Toyota C series.

The local dealer already brought a few 2009 cars.

Any ideas on what the gear ratios on the new C67 would be? I'm making a gearing spreadsheet for trans swap purposes, and have been using the gear ratios from the Gen III MR2 C66 trans as reference:
1st: 3.166
2nd: 1.904
3rd: 1.310
4th: 0.969
5th: 0.815
6th: 0.725
Final: 3.722

As mentioned earlier in the thread, the C60 has decent gearing too:
1st: 3.166
2nd: 2.050
3rd: 1.481
4th: 1.166
5th: 0.916
6th: 0.725
Final: ?

Perhaps the C67 will fall somewhere within this range? Let me know so I can complete the spreadsheet and share it with everybody.

I've been looking for the ratios also... but there is NO info on the web regarding this tranny.

The owners manual of the 2009 cars doesn't have this info either.

I guess we have to wait a little to find this information.

Just try a google search for Toyota C67 MT and you'll see what I mean.... No info at all:iono:

invol
12-27-2008, 12:47 PM
I know what you mean. I tried Googling it before I asked the question. There ain't a whole lot out there. So, I decided to make my own in hopes of this being the right one.

Mythical C67:
1st: 3.545 (original Yaris 1st)
2nd: 2.050 (2nd-6th from C60)
3rd: 1.481
4th: 1.166
5th: 0.916
6th: 0.725
Final: 3.722 LSD from Starlet GT

This would give both good acceleration and good highway manners (2500RPM in 6th @ 65.43MPH/105.30KPH)

Heck, if I get up enough money (i.e. winning the lottery), this is what I want in my Yaris.

fyi, castrex and i (and by that i mean he did it, i just stood around jaja) tested the NST shortshifter (the one the goes in the engine bay) on an '09 TS with the new 6speed transmission and it doesnt fit... so if you were thinking of getting the shortshifter for that car (like i did) you're a bit out of luck :frown:

I'll try and remember tomorrow to ask if I can get the gearing for the new C56 transmissions @ my interview.

The gearing for the C56 we have. This is a common tranny found on the Yaris Ts, Celica GT, some corollas, MR2 Spider...

C56
3.166
1.904
1.392
1.031
0.815
FD 4.312

What we would like to know is the gearing for the NEW C67.

There are no cars in the US currently with this tranny so it will be hard to find.
This is the new tranny offered for the 2009 Yaris TS and the new Yaris 1.33 Both Euro versions.

Are you going to an interview on a dealer?

Some useful information you could find is about the Toyota Part# 41301-20230

That is the OEM L.S.D from the 04-05 MR-Spider and apparently a direct fit for the 07-08 Yaris TS

You can get the TRD equivalent for around $800 but I'm curious if the factory one can be had for less.:w00t:

Really? were did you get that info from?

Oh men... I wish Toyota were putting this tranny into other models so we could source one out of a wrecked car.

On a side note... the 5 speed TS is much more capable than the 9.3 secs posted by Toyota.

With a few mods I've got mine to mark 7.6 sec on the 0-60mph on my g-tech. That's like 7.6 sec on 0-98 KM/h

What kills the 0-60 times in this car is the short gearing wich means we have to shift one extra gear to make it to 60mp/h

But still really impressed with the numbers from the new 6speed

Those are the Toyota "Official" times.

I believe Toyota says that the 1.5 Yaris will take 10.5 Sec to 60 mph

Their official time for the 5 spd TS is 9.3 sec for 0-100 kp/h or 0-62pmh

Unofficially the best I have pulled on mine, meassured with a G-tech and with the Trac control disabled was 7.58 sec

did you tested?because 125HP vs 133Hp is very little diference..and the weight is 1050kg vs 1250kg is a little bit more..from swift's sport owners i heared that is a little bit faster than yaris ts for 0-100km/h,the transmission is little bit better than yaris TS,ESP&ASR is possible to turn off from a button..yea, maybe after 100km/h yaris ts will be faster (more torque,a few hp)..but i think 0-400m suzuki would be winner..even the factory details are in advantage for suzuki:0-100km/h 9,3sec for TS and 8,9sec for suzuki..i'm talking about the stock cars.
anyway in my opinion, suzuki would be the winner racing 0-100km/h.
