Ok, so I won a $125 gift certificate to use at my dealer's parts department. I know I want either this:
PTR11-52070
Red TRD lowering springs
$229 + installation (their site doesn't show install cost for these)
or this:
PTR11-52071
Red TRD rear sway bar
$213.30 (price of the part INCLUDING installation fee)
Is red the only color these things come in? If not, what other colors are they available in?
Which should I get? Which would you get?

Definitely sway bar. I've only seen it in red.

i would think they go together like PB&J....right??

Of course they do, but I can only get one or the other right now not both.

then get the TRD quick shift, you can install it yourself, and you may only have to put like $10 w/ it....how did you get the gift card???

Does the TRD quick shift work on a Yaris w/ automatic transmission? I think I'd rather get one of the things I listed above.
My dealer had a halloween "party" and they had a raffle for $100 and $200 gift certificates for their parts department. To get raffle tickets, you had to bring canned foods to donate. They gave the same number of raffle tickets as canned foods each person brought. I knew not many people would show up and I brought 8 cans so I got 8 raffle tickets.
I was on my way to work so I dropped by, donated the canned foods and got my 8 tickets. The extra $25 is a gift certificate they sent me after I traded in my '07 3-door LB for the '09 5-door LB.

thats cool....nah, it won't work on an A/T...I just assume every ricer has a stick...lol

Hehe, you consider me a ricer? All I've added to my Yaris are mudguards and a rear bumper protector. The lowering springs or sway bar would be to improve the feel driving the car.
Oh, I did get a cheap exhaust tip, but that's because the stock exhaust pipe on our cars look like spaghetti. Gave up on the TRD / aftermarket exhaust idea because I don't want my car any louder than it is now and I don't want to hear my car farting.

a little fart never hurt anyone...hell i just farted now! lol

Go for the swaybar, even alone. It makes a world of difference. Actually takes the car from granny to sporty. All Yaris should have one. It should be the law. Much safer and much much more stable.
Of course, if it's a manual the short shifter is also a must-have item but they're available from other suppliers at a better price. And a no-brainer to install yourself in 5 minutes.

I guess I'll use the certificate on something else then.
I just read these three threads:

ChinoCharles says the springs, sway bars, etc. are pointless w/o getting upgraded shocks first. I can't afford the TRD shocks right now, even w/ this gift certificate.
Also, if I got the TRD lowering springs, I'd have to buy that bump stop kit (which is more than $100 extra) since I don't want to cut any of my bumper.
So, looks like I won't be getting the lowering springs or rear sway bar.

get the sway bar. It'll make a big difference even if you still have the stock shocks.

TRD Sway bar . Or go with the oem center console if your ride didn't come with one ...

Ok, we get it. You drive on flat land and take your turns at 5 miles an hour. That's why you are resisting all the recommendations to get the sway bar.
But, if you ever have an opportunity to drive a canyon or mountain road, you'll wish you had the sway bar.

Well I do live in the desert SW and rarely ever drive on canyon or mountain roads so...
I just want an overall smoother ride from this econo-car. What one thing can I get (something a Toyota dealer would be able to order for a Yaris) that will get me a smoother ride than I have now.

A Cadillac. But not the STS because I think that has a sport suspension.

I guess I'll take you guys' word on it and try the rear sway bar.

No not bored. But I will wait until you post about how you like your new sway bar.

for cripes sake send me the certificate and I'll get the sway bar.....you're making the rear suspension more rigid than what it is...and you're doing it for half the cost ...quit wondering. start doing
AND you can install the sway yourself if you can boil water...

I've never had the opportunity to upgrade the suspension / handling components of any of my cars before. My driving style is not to drive like a maniac. I'll only drive 5mph over the speed limit, but most of the time I drive at the speed limit and I do coast alot.
I guess the rear sway bar will help with that hypermiling technique where I coast to my next turn and turn without using my brakes to slow down.

Wow, screw the $213 my dealer wants for the TRD rear sway bar. I'm getting this!:

Edit:
Heh, I really should have taken shop class. I guess tie bars are completely different than sway bars and it looks like people recommend 4-point tie bars vs. the 2-point bars in this auction.

Oh, you can only use the certificate at one dealer? Then you're stuck having to pay their price. My dealer's prices were always so much higher than TRD Sparks.
I think I bought all of my TRD parts from them. Even with shipping, they were cheaper than my Toyota dealer once you added sales tax.
IsLNdbOi
11-07-2008, 01:44 AM
Yeah, unfortunately the certificate is only good with my dealer. If I get the shocks and lowering springs I'll definitely get them from TRD Sparks unless my dealer can price match them.
