Basically you have to find a base (or make it) and then you can start to modifing. I´ve done some amateur jobs y MSPaint but is better to use photoshop for that.

Use the color-graph on the bottom as a guide to different shades/colors. It's kind of a PITA at first, but you get used to it if you got the patience. lol

On a related note, does anyone know of a 3D model of the Yaris out there? I design boats using Rhino all the time (it's a 3D surface-modelling prog) and model the occasional car (see below) so it would be good to have a Yaris "in-house" to play with.

If you are using photoshop, have you tried "save for web"? It lets you preview diff sizes and formats for file size.

its the new trend.
Pixel art is a form of digital art, created through the use of raster graphics software, where images are edited on the pixel level. Graphics in most old (or relatively limited) computer and video games, graphing calculator games, and many mobile phone games are mostly pixel art.

acually i used MS paint...
Decided I would make a guide to making a first pixelcar for the new pixel-ers.
Introduction
We'll be tuning this Nissan Silvia S14 base by BLiTZ.
http://img244.imageshack.us/img244/8836/nissansilvias14iu4.png
You don't have to tune the S14, and you don't have to do all the things I've shown you here. This is just an example, so go ahead and be creative.
We'll be using MS paint. If you have photoshop, you can still kinda follow this tutorial. The examples I show won't look exactly like what you did, since I like to use zipper-shading and what-not. There is no exact way to tune pixelcars, so you don't have to follow this guide exactly.
Understanding this Tutorial
I hope this tutorial is clear enough to understand. The only thing I did that might confuse anyone are the arrows. The black arrows mean to select or add something, and the blue arrows are the results.
Credits
Subject Base: BLiTZ/Pro
Subject Rims: Nizzy
Reference to Vent Shading: Sean P. (I learned something too, )
Lowering
A lot of beginners make the mistake of not lowering before they change the bodykit, or change the rims. This seems so easy that it doesn't need to be in a tutorial... but this tutorial is about how to make your first pixelcar.
1. Choose the select tool and grab the front view of the car. Then, pull it down. In this case, I lowered it 4 pixels. 4 pixels may not seem like a lot, but just that really affects how the entire car looks.
http://i95.photobucket.com/albums/l145/Professional_Idiot/Lowering1X.png
2. Do the same for the other sides. It doesn't matter if the rims are cut off.
http://i95.photobucket.com/albums/l145/Professional_Idiot/Lowering2.png
3. Use the line tool and black out the bottom of the side and rear views.
http://i95.photobucket.com/albums/l145/Professional_Idiot/Lowering3.png

Rims
Let's add some rims.
1. Start by blacking out the wheel wells.
http://i95.photobucket.com/albums/l145/Professional_Idiot/Rims1.png
2. Take the default green [(R=0)(B=0)(G=255)] and make an outline inside the wheel well, leaving a 1 pixel black outer line on the outside.
http://i95.photobucket.com/albums/l145/Professional_Idiot/Rims2.png
3. Use the paint bucket tool and fill them in.
http://i95.photobucket.com/albums/l145/Professional_Idiot/Rims3-1.png
4. Now copy and paste the green wheel wells you made and put them aside. Fill the original ones with black.
http://i95.photobucket.com/albums/l145/Professional_Idiot/Rims4.png
5. Here we have a rim made by Nizzy.
http://i95.photobucket.com/albums/l145/Professional_Idiot/Rims5.png
6. Move the rim over the wheel well, selecting the transparency option for the select tool. The background color (The one behind the other square of colour) is the color that will become transparent. It doesn't matter if the rim overlaps the fenders.
http://i95.photobucket.com/albums/l145/Professional_Idiot/Transparency.png
http://i95.photobucket.com/albums/l145/Professional_Idiot/Transparency2.png
http://i95.photobucket.com/albums/l145/Professional_Idiot/Rims6.png
7. Now, doing the same thing, except, green as the background color this time, place the copy fenders over the rims. You should get this:
http://i95.photobucket.com/albums/l145/Professional_Idiot/Rims7.png
You can delete the copies when you're done.

Paint
Let's change the color of this tune.
1. First, make the shade chart (A shade chart is a little box with all the shades of the base used in it.), if the base doesn't already come with one. In this case, it doesn't come with a shade chart.
http://i95.photobucket.com/albums/l145/Professional_Idiot/Paint1.png
2. Next, make a shade chart of the color you want to change the car to. It's hard to actually get your own shades in MS paint, but if you do, I suggest making each shades have about 15 RBG values apart. (Make the red value 15 more than the one before, the green value 15 more than the one before, and the blue value 15 more than before.)
http://i95.photobucket.com/albums/l145/Professional_Idiot/Paint2.png
3. Now, left-click the lightest original shade, and right-click the lightest new shade. (Select these colors with the eyedropper tool.) (Make the foreground color the original shade, and the background color the new shade.)
http://i95.photobucket.com/albums/l145/Professional_Idiot/Paint3.png
4. Select the eraser-tool. Right-click and drag the eraser tool all over your tune, and the lightest shade of the car should change. If it doesn't, you might've chosen the wrong shades.
http://i95.photobucket.com/albums/l145/Professional_Idiot/Paint4-2.png
5. Repeat, but a shade down.
http://i95.photobucket.com/albums/l145/Professional_Idiot/Paint5.png
6. Keep repeating step 5 until the whole tune is a new color.
http://i95.photobucket.com/albums/l145/Professional_Idiot/Paint7.png
Jerkratt

Fenders
Let's actually change the physical look of the car now!
1. First, remove the AA (Anti-aliasing) on the fender.
http://i95.photobucket.com/albums/l145/Professional_Idiot/Fenders1.png
2. Use the pencil or line tool, and draw the outline of your new fender.
http://i95.photobucket.com/albums/l145/Professional_Idiot/Fenders2.png
3. White out the dark parts, but leave the lighter area alone.
http://i95.photobucket.com/albums/l145/Professional_Idiot/Fenders3.png
4. Take the lightest shade and add highlight the fender with it.
http://i95.photobucket.com/albums/l145/Professional_Idiot/Fenders4.png
5. Then, take a darker shade and fill the rest.
http://i95.photobucket.com/albums/l145/Professional_Idiot/Fenders5.png
6. Smooth out the fender with the other shades. You won't get this right the first time, but keep testing and trying until you smooth it out the way you want.
http://i95.photobucket.com/albums/l145/Professional_Idiot/Fenders6.png
7. Now, let's add some more track.
http://i95.photobucket.com/albums/l145/Professional_Idiot/Fenders7.png
8. Let's add some camber... (It's basically a long strip of AA.) If you can, AA the rest of the fender too. (Optional, but I think camber really makes a tune look good.)
http://i95.photobucket.com/albums/l145/Professional_Idiot/Fenders8.png
9. Copy and paste your new fender on the other side. Flip it by pressing CTRL+R, and selecting flip horizontal.
http://i95.photobucket.com/albums/l145/Professional_Idiot/Flip.png
10. Now, add some new fenders to the rear view too.
http://i95.photobucket.com/albums/l145/Professional_Idiot/Fenders11.png
11. This part can be tough: make the fender on the side view bigger so it matches the front and rear views.
http://i95.photobucket.com/albums/l145/Professional_Idiot/Fenders12.png
Adding a Lip
Let's add a lip.
1. White out the stock lip.
http://i95.photobucket.com/albums/l145/Professional_Idiot/Lip1.png
2. Fill it with the lightest shade.
http://i95.photobucket.com/albums/l145/Professional_Idiot/Lip2.png
3. Shade the lip kinda like how you shaded the fender. Your lip doesn't have to look as good as this, but it takes as much time as the fender: You have to try and try until it looks good. You can paste this image and zoom in on it to reference how to do yours.
http://i95.photobucket.com/albums/l145/Professional_Idiot/Lip3.png
4. Just like the front view, white out the stock lip on the side view and fill it with the lightest shade.
http://i95.photobucket.com/albums/l145/Professional_Idiot/Lip5.png
5. Shade accordingly...
http://i95.photobucket.com/albums/l145/Professional_Idiot/Lip6.png

Bodykit
A good way to make a bodykit for beginners is to just modify the stock one.
Tip: Don't make a rear bodykit on your first try. Many beginners make the body kit touch the floor, and it just looks ricey. If you have to add a rear kit, then make sure it's at least 4 pixels from the floor.
1. Actually, before starting the kit, why not get a bit more practice shading by adding a side skirt? It's just like adding a lip. (Optional)
http://i95.photobucket.com/albums/l145/Professional_Idiot/Skirts3.png
2. Let's remove the mesh and pillars on the front bumper.
http://i95.photobucket.com/albums/l145/Professional_Idiot/Bodykit1.png
3. Now, we'll lower the intake by 1 pixel.
http://i95.photobucket.com/albums/l145/Professional_Idiot/Bodykit2.png
4. Fill in the space according to the shading around it.
http://i95.photobucket.com/albums/l145/Professional_Idiot/Bodykit3.png
5. Next, add the lightest shade to the hole.
http://i95.photobucket.com/albums/l145/Professional_Idiot/Bodykit4.png
6. Take the darkest shade and add it to both sides of the line.
http://i95.photobucket.com/albums/l145/Professional_Idiot/Bodykit5.png
7. Use the other shades and smooth out the area you just made, using darker shades as you get to the edges of the line. Make a copy and flip it to the other side.
http://i95.photobucket.com/albums/l145/Professional_Idiot/Bodykit6.png
8. Now, do the same thing for the side view.
http://i95.photobucket.com/albums/l145/Professional_Idiot/Bodykit789.png

Vents
Learn to create your own vents by pixelling an out-take vent on your first tune
1. Make a line with the darkest shade where you want the hole.
http://i95.photobucket.com/albums/l145/Professional_Idiot/Vent1-1.png
2. Add a highlight and a shadow to define the lighting and shading of the outtake.
http://i95.photobucket.com/albums/l145/Professional_Idiot/Vent2-1.png
3. Smooth the shadows and the highlight out with other shades...
http://i95.photobucket.com/albums/l145/Professional_Idiot/Vent3-1.png
4.Shade the inside of the vent. A good reference would be Sean P.'s Helpful Vent Shading Tutorial.
http://i95.photobucket.com/albums/l145/Professional_Idiot/Vent4.png
You're Done!
You're done your first tune! Congratulations!

I used the template from BlackYaris' post, I then started with the lightest color on the car and matched that to the color of my yaris I then used the color chart, i used the next color for the darker shaded areas and repeated this set as needed (dependeing on different shades and colors.
I then followed wheel write up that Jerkratt posted and wallah finished
OH yeah I lowered the car before i did any of this. Jerkratt's post was very helpful it was actually easier than i expected, i am sure with some practice i will be able to "tune" the car much more.

I'm glad we got these on the forums! I did one and tossed it in my sig. I had to install some mods on the cartoon car that aren't on in real life yet though. I'm not going through that again... lol.

you know you'd be all over it if you saw it at a show. If I end up keeping my Yaris over the next ten years, I promise you this, it will have a blown 350 in it with 33" Mickey Thompson's in the rear, lol

On PS, use the pencil toom at 1 pixel if you want to do it the long way and change your Hue and Saturation depending on color you want. Be sure to get the body and remember to keep the headlights/tailights the original color.

I want to make a pixel car of my Yaris Sedan!
Someone find one for me, or a site to go to! That you don't have to sign up for!!! Maybe something I could copy and paste? Then custom myself on photo shop...lol.
I'm having a hard time finding one that is similar to my pretty basic Sedan 4-door!
