Sylvania SilverStar or SilverStar ULTRA

I saw these bulbs at Costco and was wondering if anyone has tried them.
Any comments? TIA.

I find the OEM headlights on our Yaris weak! Guess this is because we have bi-xenons on our Benz. :tongue:

The SilverStars looks promising indeed as a replacement for the OEM bulbs, but I hope they are not glaring to oncoming drivers.

Osram bought the well-established American lampmaker Sylvania in the early 1990s, so Osram is now Sylvania's parent company. Sylvania also sells a line of automotive bulbs they call "Silver Star", but it's not the same product. The Sylvania Silver Stars have blue glass. Light output is of legal levels, but as with all blue-filtered bulbs, you do not get more light from them. The Sylvania SilverStar bulbs have a very short lifetime, because the filament is overdriven to get a legal amount of light despite the blue glass.

hmmm, although i'm not disputing your claim, I personally didn't experience the shorter lifetime of the bulbs.

well because I drive about an hour every day in the dark, and I am now on my third set of sylvania silverstar 9003 in my 2001 civic, I would say an hour a day 5 days a week minimum netted me about a year and a half each set...(math is off because I bought my first set of silverstars around 2004-2005) and I just installed my third set this month

..KEEP IN MIND I change out my stuff in sets & both times only one bulb blew out...coincidentally, both times it was the right side hehe...

the box says that light output decreases as the filament is used up but I never really noticed a significant light output decrease...but going from low to Hi beams you could see a drastic difference in light output...

The only issue I would take note of is the lack of space behind the headlight housing.

It is extremely tight back there, and removing the harness is about only the easiest part. After you remove the harness, there is a thick, rubber boot which keeps out moisture and foreign objects. Remove this by gently pulling on all sides to loosen, then wiggle it out of there. Once this is removed, there will be a metal retaining clip which holds the headlight bulb in place. This has proved to be the most trickiest to unclip, as the awkward positions your hand, arm, and body have endure just to get this thing loose.. it is unreal. You push the prongs inwards and then swing it downwards to get it out of the way. Don't worry, it's attached to the headlight housing, you won't loose this piece. Take the bulb out and you're home free. Now just repeat this procedure backwards, and once again for the other side and you'll find that your hands will have been mutilated.

As for the time it took me, about 15 minutes.. I have small hands! Still, my hands are pretty scraped up lol
