ChinoCharles
11-12-2008, 01:59 AM
Garm is paving the way for anyone that has ever wanted a 300 HP Yaris. I think it would be freekin' awesome/hilarious/jaw-dropping to beat a Ferarri in a Yaris.

cali yaris
11-12-2008, 02:00 AM
I should probably go back to bone stock on the outside, for the most fun possible.

(just kidding)

Now you just need to work on those launches you love so much Garm. Then you will smoke everyone.

ChinoCharles
11-12-2008, 02:03 AM
Naw, its way more funny to beat a Ferarri in a car that looks like a disco ball roller skate than it is to beat one in a stock econohatch.

I'm really just in this for the laugh factor.

kargoboy, I have already installed an Exedy stage I clutch and KAAZ LSD.

I'm considering a C56 trans swap, but that will have to come later.

tinygiant, my goal is 300 whp and I'd like to see this car get into the 11's or at least low 12's.

TinyGiant
11-12-2008, 03:48 PM
you going to put anything into the exterior or leave it stock to blow some minds?

darthbauer
11-12-2008, 03:50 PM
He's already got stuff done to the inside.

TinyGiant
11-12-2008, 03:51 PM
i think you should get it painted like the exterior of a plane with the lines and rivets .. make it look like a rat rod.. or make it look rusty .. or better yet make it look super walmart cheezy

cali yaris
11-12-2008, 03:57 PM
LOL, exterior is pretty much done, interior a few more parts but pretty close too

haha, me too! Even high 12's would be exciting.

(Richard, call me anytime, just give me a day to respond. I believe it is a matter of forum etiquette to respect each other's privacy. There may be other points of view on this subject than just mine, however.)

I forgot to add the '04 Matrix throttle I got for this as well.

That's some pretty impressive engine machining and port work. What machine shop did the work and specifically the sleeving to allow for the oversize pistons? Could this be the work of Cosworth! Have you increased the valve size at all ? I better let you go so you can go knife edge the crankshaft LOL Keep us posted on this great project!

11-14-2008, 06:19 AM
Don't forget the high volume fuel pump and bigger lines, clutch and axles.

Damn thick sleeves, are these Aluminium/Nikasil or ductile iron, by the color I'd say iron ?
One thing for sure is that engine and management is built to see up to 30 psi of boost, I don't have much details on the construction of the Yaris engine and drivetrain, I just hope it's strong enough to live behind a monster like this.

Thumbs up for the build and keep the pics coming :D

hey cali, what do you plan on doing after you put the built motor in? i say you put slicks on it and try to get 10 sec

cali yaris
11-21-2008, 10:22 AM
bigger lines, clutch and axles.

Exedy Stage I clutch (very stiff)
Fortified axles from Drive Shaft Shop

fuel system will be upgraded as needed. in-tank pump would be preferable.

i say you put slicks on it and try to get 10 sec

I have drag wheels and slicks for it, but I doubt it's a 10 second car. Getting into the 11's would be thrilling, never done it.

Do you guys have good luck with the twin fire? mine died in my S14 in just a few hours.. then I swapped in a DIS4 wire for wire they plug in the same.. But I like the Twin fire better for its smaller has less BS on it that the AEM takes care of any way.. and it can be triggered falling edge or rising edge.

have had mixed results with the coils. They were arcing, which we fixed with heatshrink (but shouldn't have to do that IMO). One has popped off so far, might need a bracket to really hold them down there solidly. Overall, ok, not fantastic, but the car is running real nice at 9.5 psi right now. Built motor swap is the next step, after I drive it a little bit.

if you get the CBR coils (can be had for 50# a set on ebay) the plugs you need to use must have a screw off top, and the coil grabs on that thread.. but its hard to find good plugs that are like that, I run IK24's in my car.

Also if you cant fix the spark issues why not try the factory coils? they are a smart coil no? if so the AEM can run them direct with no ignitior or spark box (twin fire ect)

cool setup the car should fly... what do the 3drs weigh in at?

Cali,
Do you know how much the cylinder bore was increased by? I know the stock is 75mm; I'm just wondering how much it can be opened up by before risking thin walls on the stock iron sleeves.

cali yaris
07-15-2009, 11:53 AM
I do not know if specs like that are made available to everyone, but I will ask. It's a small motor, there's not a lot of thickness there to play with as you said.

I think it's about a 1.6L now.

motor build + fuel system + standalone = approx. $8k, goodies like gauges, radiator, motor mounts, etc etc not counted.

Doesn't need to be nearly this fancy to make power though!

8k? Sounds like some corner cutting? I spent $15K minimum on most of my stockish builds. But of course Porsches are a bit more expensive.
