Hey guys, I was looking into building you guys a harness bar for both the sedan and liftback. I need a little help though, as I no longer have a Yaris of my own. I need some pictures of the seat belt bolt areas, both the upper and lower where they attach to car. Also, I need the measurement from the upper seat belt bolts. I need the measurement from pillar to pillar. Also too if you guys could give me an idea of how far back behind the upper seatbelt bolt that your seats go. That way I can design the harness bar with enough room so that you can sit in a comfortable position for you. Thanks for the help guys. Also, If I could find someone in the South Jersey/ philly area so I can mock one of these up, that would be very helpful.

well... i'm still waiting for someone to give me measurements... I can have these ready by the end of next week, but I need to get these measurements, and then I need to find someone with a yaris in my area, so I can make sure everything bolts up. These would be made out of chromoly and they would be 1 1/2" tubing to allow for the many camcorder mounts to work with the harness bar. I may also eventually make my own camcorder mounts if there is a demand for them.
I also need to know if there is a difference in width of the sedan and liftback, hopefully there is not, so that the product will work universally on both.

Turboyaris, wouldn't it be simplier if you visited a Toyota dealer nearby instead so you can accurately take the necessary measurements?
Just a suggestion, no pun intended.

I'm working on it -- you asked me yesterday!

turboyaris
11-14-2008, 07:16 PM
haha i tried that, i went to the same one that I bought mine from and they were too busy to bother I suppose, anyways for right now I'm designing the brackets and I need to know the bolt size for the upper and lower seat belt bolts... I couldn't quite figure that out.

Would you really trust anyone else's measurement, other than Garms?

turboyaris
11-15-2008, 01:05 PM
thanks man, the big thing I need right now, is the size of the bolts for the seatbelts, that way I can have the flanges made.... the harness bar itself will need to be made with a car in front of me, just in case haha, plus then like everyone said, I will have my own measurements which are all the measurements I need.

cali yaris
11-15-2008, 01:38 PM
K, I will pull a bolt and go match it for you today... M-something, LOL

Can't find my bolt gauge, but the head size on all of the seatbelt bolts is 14mm. I think that equates to a M10 size bolt, though I can't say for sure.

whooppee777
11-16-2008, 11:56 PM
i wouldnt mind one of these

turboyaris
11-17-2008, 05:57 PM
anyone get a chance to pull out those two seat belt bolts and measure them? apparently yaris owners in jersey are lame... no one wants to help me out with this haha :P

cali yaris
11-17-2008, 06:05 PM
Head size is 14mm, I'm off to Lowe's to confirm M10 status.

Here's a pic of the bolt with the spacer that comes with it:

turboyaris
11-17-2008, 06:24 PM
dont go to lowes... i just need that spacers diameter, I'm basically trying to do this, i just need to make sure the hole in the bracket will go around that bolts spacer
http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y221/reebok182/harnessbracket.jpg

and a simlar bracket for the bottom, thats the only real measurement I need before actually building the harness bars

cali yaris
11-17-2008, 06:51 PM
wtf? LOL

the big thing I need right now, is the size of the bolts for the seatbelts,

anyways.... it's an M12 1.25 -- the spacer is 3/4" in diameter and 1 7/16" long.

turboyaris
11-17-2008, 06:57 PM
haha yea the need for the size of the bolt was because i didn't know about the spacer in there... but then i saw it.. dont worry i'll give u a sweet discount for your troubles... does the bottom have the same spacer?

cali yaris
11-17-2008, 07:11 PM
No it doesn't, and on my car, the bottom bolt is replaced with the eye-bolt for the harnesses.

The back face of my seat is 2" to the rear of the center of the upper bolt, by the way - although this will obviously vary from driver to driver.

turboyaris
11-17-2008, 07:37 PM
ok so top bracket is done... and cali im guessing the bottom is just a 12mm bolt like the top then?

Yes i can build a roll cage...
these will be around for a while... but after the initial interest has died I might make you wait a week, since I dont want to have a large overhead of harness bars lying around

mikenacarato
11-17-2008, 11:00 PM
well as long as i can get it later its cool, and if you can build a roll cage that will allow you to keep your interior that would be super sick

turboyaris
11-17-2008, 11:20 PM
yea i know that a roll cage looks cool but for you liftback owners it'd be very difficult to make it possible to use your back seats, not to mention the overall cost of a roll cage... remember you have to get it painted or powdercoated... so someone would really need to have a need for a roll cage if they were going to... but hey if someone wants to pay the price.... i'll make one

mikenacarato
11-17-2008, 11:23 PM
well i could have one made here locally but if you were going to make bolt in or weld in kits and be able to retain the interior i would give you the sale. :)

bolt in is not my preferred style cage so i would weld in the bold in if i had too.

i just realized i didnt put in guides for the seat belt harnesses so they dont slip all over the place, they will be there in the final product, just a simple piece of 1/4 round stock bent so that ur harness are sure to stay behind your seats

TheRealEnth
11-18-2008, 02:02 AM
well, i cant afford a rollcage but.. If i could, like everyone else probaly the same would say... we wouldn't mind losing our rear seats for it.

cali yaris
11-18-2008, 02:16 AM
I can't wait to use your harness bar with my harnesses.

I'll probably lose the back seat and put in my X-brace to go with it -- yeah!!

Can't wait to see what you come up with for the rear.

The BTCC hondas had their rear beam replaced with a pretty neat looking fabricated tubing setup that had a slip/flexable joint in the middle, such that, while using the stock beam attachment points, they basically had a type of independent rear end. I'd be all over one for the yaris.

I think you are talking my language. Some solid aluminum torsion bar bushings would be nice. A nice cross brace like Flying Miata (http://www.flyinmiata.com/index.php?dept=15) makes would be nice too.
