I have new Tanable NF210s to be installed in my car,
every where I go starting at the Toyota dealer ($650) I'm getting estimates for $400 to $600.

I wish I had a mechaninc as a friend. :frown: :iono:

Changing springs isn't too difficult, but you gotta remember to get an alignment done when you're finished.

It's not mechanically difficult to do, but it sure helps if you have an air compressor and and the setup to compress the springs.

Tire people here charged me $185 including the alignment to put the NF's on mine and I thought that was expensive. Guess it wasn't too bad after all.

Yes I will, alignment adds another $40-$75 bucks,

I wish I had the tools.

Thanks.

if you wanna drive down here to nashville ill do it for you. :)

you can rent spring compressors from your local auto store such as autozone or advance auto. then it should be basic hand tools for the rest. i believe the rear springs dont even need compressors.

$400-$600 sounds way too expensive...
I paid $200 for my previous car.
Some of my friends got it even cheaper too.

you should find someone to do it for under $200.00

It's not a difficult task. I *think* you can do it if you have a 1/2" socket set. It'll be quite an exercise to get the spring compressor part done, but it can be done by hand. Last time I did it I rented a spring compressor from Checker Autoparts. The rental was like $4, but they charge you $60 just in case you decide to walk away with their compressor :)

It's insane how much New England prices are compare to the other states, just today I got 5 quotes ranging from $390 to $650. And no body wanted me there waiting It got worst because I wanted to watch / help / and or take pictures to document it. They wanted me to drop off the car the night before and I pick it up next day at the end of the day.

A lot of them sounded really nice over the phone or when I started the conversation at their shop, but at the end I felt like if they didn't want it to do it. :iono:

A lot of BS out there just trying to take advantage of innocent people.

imo try to find a nice shadetree machanic, preferably one who has done performance work. they will charge you less and they dont care if you stand there waiting.
for example, we have a place thats a bmw tuning whop (i used to work there) and we had people all the time with any car we would do work on. i never cared if they took pics or watched and neither did the owner. plus we charged less than a lot of bigger shops.

You should try living in Hawaii! When we try to ship things out here sometimes we get the "privilege" of paying 100% shipping.

As far as the watch / pictures / help angle, it's probably because of our sue-happy society. They don't want any liability should something go wrong, etc.

I'd say keep snooping around. There's gotta be someone out there (maybe another car club?) that can help you out. If you come from the angle that you want to learn and need someone to help - you'll probably have no problem finding someone.

to tell you the truth i'm not too mechanically savvy on toyota cars. I took a thorough look at the tanabe spring install diy though and i was able to do it myself. I still need to get an alignment but in the end i would say that its definitely worth learning how to do it.

After all its all $$ you can spend on other mods ;]

Wow, no wonder so many people like to DIY, labor costs for you guys are just insane... If any shop here quoted $200 for a spring install they'd get rocks thrown at them

I spent $220 on my trd springs (could've gotten the tein springs for $185 or $100 used dunno why I bought trd) ... and $60 on the install, why go to a garage when you can just look for some dude who has been messing around with cars their whole lifes and probably knows more about cars than the average mechanic

Most shops charge a hour labor per side. Which is almost a flate rate for most cars. Cept our cars which the rears are just shocks and take no more than 30 minutes to do the rear. I would esimate about 3 hours labor for all 4. Most you should pay is 300.

^they SHOULD as long as they cannot trace the problem to the modification performed.
