My lowly Yaris 3 door does NOT have the factory cluster with the Tach included.

Has anyone anywhere ever done a swap from a basic cluster to the one with the factory tach?

I'd like to know if or how this is done and how to keep the mileage correct as well.

Anyone? Anyone? Bueller? Bueller?

well...there has been quite a few thread about this... First of the factory cluster is very dificult to find right now...once in a while Ebay has the but they are gone before you know it and besides most of them are for the Canadian HB such is in KL not ML, also the plug for the harness is diferent from what I heard, now, you can try to get the cluster at TOYOTA but it'll cost you a wooping US$600.00+ (I checked :p), about the milage there has been a few discution on that the actual reading is stored in the actual car ECU and not the cluster...if that's the case then it should update the new cluster as soon as you plug it an turn the car on...now the Toyota tech that I spoke to could not confirm it and since the cluster like I said before, no one has been able to get the original US version this is rumors and opinions, hope this helps and if you get to try it...please post it!!!

All of this is true! EXCEPT CDM cluster is plug and play, YES it fits USDM and The mileage is stored in the cluster not the ECU

How did you come by this info if I may ask? Got a link to another source? I want to do this but need to verify before $$$ spent.

Thanks for all of the responses.

Now Since we've started to establish that the mileage is stored in the cluster how would one spin the odometer to read someones current mileage?

Years ago all one had to do was get a drill and spin the odometer. I'm thinking though that it may be a different approach though.

Also wouldn't it be a simple swap from the Amber lights to the White Lights in the cluster?

I got one...

Is yours one from Canada that was offered on Ebay? I've seen those and was gonna do it, but after having read the yea it wills and no it wonts, I've held back. Also, is yours out of a sedan or HB....that too seems to be an issue?

since 10 or 10+ years ago, toyota stopped using cables in their clusters. so you cannot "spin" it :P

my approach.. You would have to have a special ecu, so you can send the 200kmh signal to the cluster and wait... till it goes over the 1million miles/km, and comes back to 0 and then wait more to go back to your mileage. my guess is if it is just a couple thousand over your current mileage, hehe you would have to wait helluva long time to get your mileage back :P

ok, maybe there is a way to PROGRAM that thing, but my doubt is very high on this even 1 (ONE) person said the dealer would do it.

Yes true, And to answer your question better I have both HB and SD and did the same with both I had them installed for about a month or 2 took them off and stored them until the warranty passes don't really want to have any trouble and it marks everything perfectly in KM compared it "SD MPH to HB KPH" and "HB MPH to SD KPH"

Not easy it was like a part-time Job on Ebay and a little help with the saved search. I even got emails after the bids offering me about $50 to $80 over the price to resell I decided NOT!

Cool....last couple of questions....is yours auto or manual? Does it make a difference in your opinion? Guess I'm looking for complete plug and play and the type of transmission not making a difference.

HB is M/T and SD is A/T the dash for the SD is for A/T cuase it has the gear indicator but if you don't mind the indicator you can use the manual one without the indicator thats what I had before and it was USDM. One more thing both of my cars don't have CC, ABS nor TPMS

Don't know but both my clusters are CDM

Nope well actually never ever looked in to it when i plan to leave them on I'll just start a new record from there also it will be reading KPH so the oil change won't be every 5,000 any more got to convert it KPH to MPH with my calculator I guess

it is not possible to change the mileage on the cluster.

I think this is true and if the dealer can do it which I think they don't you will still be converting to KPH

One more thing I know this is an awesome mod for much but My cars are both 07 production 06 so I don't know about newer versions or the new clusters that have came out, I'm just talking about what i got

when I spoke to the tech at toyota he said that they could do the ML in the new cluster, I asked him because I told him that I was planing on getting it cheaper somewhere else and he said that it would be fine to take it there and fix it... well that's at least this dealership dunno about any others...

RagnaCaT: do you really need a calculator ? you'll be driving in metric. Change your oil at every 8000km.

I also just remembered that you guys in the States have this OIL CHANGE WARNING LIGHT. You will never see it again in your life with the Canadian cluster.

anubisx99: it is not legal in Canada to alter what the cluster is showing in the odometer. The very few times i've seen a dealer swapping a cluster (just once actually, on a honda civic haha) They actually put a sticker in the engine bay with the mileages the car was at when the cluster was reset (ie, new cluster)

just a side note, please don't be offended: if so many of you guys SOOOOOOOO want to swap that cluster, please, don't be a pussy, and DO IT.. You will find out if your dealer can reconfigure your cluster. Oh btw, do you believe they will set it to the mileage you tell them? I'm quite sure you will have to spit the extra money for THEM to swap it, so that they have a proof that you are not lying...

Hey thanks haven't had the time to look that up! 8000km let me write that down thanks for doing my homework! also whats the convesion "mph X ?=kph" And yes I already read that CDM clusters do not have the oil change indicator Not to worry antway cuase I use TRIP B for that and always change my oil by 4,500miles. :bellyroll:

well.. not really... my maintenance manual says 8000km. And have been reading that you guys had to do it at every 5000miles.

i'm guessing there's no math to do right ?

I have a Canadian RS and the speedometer has the miles on the inner ring so check yours and use the inner ring as your guideline. 100km = 60 miles and we generally change our oil at 5000 km's = 3,000 miles (old school). Now newer cars say 8,000 km's = 5,000 miles. Just take the Miles you want to go and times by 1.6 and you have the KM's you need to drive at.
