Doesn't the Xd utilize the same Throttle body as the TC.

Just get a 05 corolla TB or you can go with a TC. Both fit on the stock Yaris manifold so with Richard's manifold you should get even greater flow.
I think the diameter opening of the TC TB is slightly bigger then the corolla TB. The xD TB should be closer in diameter to the corolla TB since they are both 1.8L engines.
gwasabi
11-20-2008, 03:48 AM
Well I figure It should be the same but not from what i hear. I don't want the engine to throw a CEL if I get too big of a diameter. servco is a rip

yah i saw threads before the hack about the carolla TB but didn't read much on it. i know people do the TC TB, i guess either of those would be better than the stock!

stick with trying to find the xd one seeing as its a direct bolt on and richard has based ALL his findings on it. the other 2 have been used before with little or no problems but id stick with the scion one until richard chimes in other wise.....

The problem with tracking down the Xd TB is the fact that the car hasn't been out long enough for these to be plentiful.

The xD is the replacment for the xA, more or less.
xB is referred to now as first gen (1.5L) and second gen (2.4L)

...oh and according to Richard's testing the larger TB was good only for a couple of extra hp. IMO the mod would be worth it only if you can source it for really cheap!

Okay theres 2 minor problems with this mod:
1) High Idle at cold start. Forgot where it idles at since I usually just start up the car and go. I'll update soon when I remember to look down at my scangage. It usually goes away after about 10-15 secs of warming up but I guess if you live somewhere really cold it would take longer?
2) The car is kind of herky jerky when it goes in and out of DFCO. So in traffic or city driving with lots of stop signs, it just kind of gets annoying because sometimes if you're not careful, it feels like you ran into a brick wall, hahajp.
PETERPOOP
11-22-2008, 10:12 PM
well i wouldn't mind the high idle if it goes down after 10-15 seconds, but herky jerky huh? bleh.

11-23-2008, 01:53 AM
Hahaha I have a Hachi and it is REALLY jerky on DFCO. ITS SUPER FUN THOUGH! hahahaha Hows the responsiveness after the mod?
thebarber
11-24-2008, 06:51 PM
i didnt find it too hard to install
i thought it drove fine
idle is high for the same length of time its high w/ a regular tb. its just the the throttle position sensor thinks that X% of openage has a certain area....that area is increased w/ teh larger throttle body, so the rpms are higher....itd be waaay less annoying in warm climates where it barely needs to warm up...
if no one wants mine, ill might just throw it back on in the spring...

No review yet...haven't installed it. I have a stock plastic intake manifold that I'm in the process of spliting open to modify. Once that's done the whole shabang is getting installed, run for a while to make sure a CEL won't come on, and then getting tested on a dyno. I'll keep everyone posted, but I most likely won't have any news until after the holidays.
Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

I guess being late to the game, I'm trying to see the real advantages of increasing to another economy car's TB. Would'nt this be good for only 1-3 H.P. max, and then it would also affect FE less proportionally than the gain in HP is worth, right? Or am i missing something?
Once Rich's manifold is produced, was'nt it dynoed on the oem TB?
WolfWings
11-29-2008, 09:18 AM
Rich's manifold is designed to take either the xD TB or the stock TB. The xD's TB is designed for the 1.8l engine, so it's able to flow a lot more air, helping (especially with Rich's manifold) to let the engine breath dramatically better at higher RPM's.

Reset ECU and check make sure all the air bubbles are out of the coolant lines that go into the throttle body. Also check the connector the TB to make sure its on correctly.
Disconnect negative battery cable for a couple hours to completely reset the ECU. Usually leaving it disconnected overnight would be best.

how do i make sure all the air bubbles are out of the coolant lines?
I did reset the ECU though. it kinda like does this wierd thing when slowing down too. like it revs up then and down by itself. I dunno whats up with that but maybe I'll try reset ecu again
FunctionSpec
12-19-2008, 06:25 PM
Yeah sounds like theres air in your coolant lines.
Once the car cools down, take off radiator cap. Turn on car and let it run at idle. Let it warm up. You'll see air bubbles bubbling out of the coolant. GENTLY squeeze the smaller coolant tubes in various areas to help push the rest of the air out. It'll be kinda hot so don't burn yourself. Keep doing until you see no more air bubbles coming out and your done.

got mine from barber. Install was SUPER easy. it goes right in. and just stick all the pipes back into the right places. took me about 30 min to install. shouldn't be too hard if you have aftermarket intake. If you have stock intake it might take u a little longer

i like the sound of this, lol
what is the size of the 1zz TB inlet compared to the 1nz? Would one need a different size intake tube for it, or would the rubber couplers for a CAI stretch over it neway?
gwasabi
01-01-2009, 04:21 AM
My rubber couple stretched all the way. I think it depends on the intake brand because the one i have is smaller than the TB. I'm probably going to find a new pipe though so I can make the intake bigger. It's like about .5 inch difference i think not too sure. It's hell of a lot bigger than the stock yaris TB

I cant wait to find one to buy, Even after just installing a CAI I can feel a difference, I cant imagine what the more drastic modders feel from their Yaris
