17" rim suggestions for sedan

im pretty clueless about cars, so i apologize if this is a stupid question...eventually i want to get a set of new wheels for my new 09 yaris sedan. in addition to 4 wheels and 4 tires, is there anything else that I have to take into consideration? will it be necessary to make some changes to the suspension or anything like that? what factors does that depend on? I want this operation to be as simple as possible, so im hoping it isnt a big deal.

sweet thanks man. but how exactly will that setup change the gas economy and stuff assuming they are the same weight as the stock wheels? will the speedo/odo have to be recalibrated for them too? i know alot of it has to do with the weight of the rims itself...so how much do the stock wheels weigh? im trying to figure out if there is a set of rims that wont affect gas mileage at all. does anyone have any suggestions that fit well? sorry for asking so many quetsions.

im also curious...how does lowering your car affect gas mileage performance? can you just lower your car or do you have to make changes tot he suspension, etc. in order to do this correctly?

i wouldnt get a 17" set if I were you. I did it for my sedan and I never really noticed the drop in handling/performance until i changed it back to my 15" stock wheels (winter tires). On the other hand 17" looks great though.

RE: suspension mod's.
At the very least install a TRD rear swaybar. It'll take your sedan from wallowing through the turns to a sporty, much flatter handling preformer without any ride comfort compromise.
Past that I can strongly recommend the TRD lowering springs and TRD shocks/struts. But only if you can live with a harsh ride. For me the loss of a cushy ride is a small sacrifice for the on-rails type handling the TRD Sportivo package provides. I know were every crack in the road is now. But dodging them is part of the fun.

Afterthought: If your Yaris is a 5 speed then you must get an NST short shifter. They're inexpensive, a no-brainer to install, and make shifting your Yaris a pleasure.

thanks, bu thonestly im not that concerned about performance right now. i am very satisfied with how the yaris performs stock. i am more concern with looks. i dont like how it looks with the hubcaps and would like to see if there is anyway i can get a good set of rims maybe 15" - 17" in size but stil lhave it perform just as well as it did stock. i dont want to spend a ton of money...and im not looking for any improvement in handling or feel, etc. i just want it to have the benefit of looks! any way i can do this unobtrusively?

To perform as well as stock, all you really need to do is be conscious of the weight. I think the combined weight of the stock steelie and tire is around 28 to 30 pounds. Steelies weigh approx 1 lb per inch. With this in mind, you do not want to invest in a new set of rims that alone weigh in at 20+ lbs.

On the real cheap, some members have achieved very very good results by painting the stock hub caps. Just by getting rid of that OEM hub cap silver goes a long way toward changing the look of the vehicle completely.

As a compromise, I would suggest 16's and 205/50/16's on stock suspension.

thanks for the suggestions guys. so i should be looking for a set of rims which weighs like 5lbs or less for each riM? this would weigh in at 20lbs at most for the rims alone.

NO. I was stating each rim weighing 20+ lbs. Many decent aftermarket rims available at 15-17 lbs each. A few can be found for less weight, and many at 19 to 25 lbs each. Just watch for rim weight when you are shopping. What may look very attractive could potentially weigh a ton.
