I got back from walmart to see 4 guys, each dressed like thugs, looking at my car. They laffed because it couldn't take up a whole parking spot. They even said "it wasn't a real car." :iono: We walked up to the yaris and my gf asked them if they where making fun of our ride. They stopped and then commented on it as a, "nice girl car." Of course I was driving  . Also, I get alot of people calling the yaris a bubble on wheels. . Does anyone else have any funny stories.

Okay, first things first. Consider the source... WALMART!!!! In no way is this a "chick" car. I'm 6'3 220. I know the difference between a chick car, and a man's car. The Yaris is all man, baby!

They were obviously hating. That, and they were at a Walmart parking lot.
I've gotten nothing but props on my Yaris. I've got friends that drive Mercedes, Lexus, brand new Altimas, and Maximas. Those are real opinions.

I have no real bad remarks about my S Sedan....I have had a few peeps call it "cute" or remark that the Jade Sea looks kind of "import tunish" which is fine by me. I have had a few peeps say that with the color I have that I should have a graphics kit put on it to make it look more fun....what ever that means about looking more "fun". So far everyone that I have had ride with me or drive it loves it...and they are say that the center console for instruments is a little weird, but they like it.

I got flamed pretty hard on my local forums when I posted that I got a Yaris. Most of them because I traded in my 200HP Miata for it. So yeah, people were upset. Still, on the street I always catch somebody looking at the car since there are virtually no liftbacks in my area. The sedans are out in force but I've only seen one other liftback.

The funny thing is, everybody on my local forums (www.importatlanta.com) flame the hell out of me and the Yaris, but at the car meets, there's always a crowd around it. Makes me wonder... :iono:

I get asked what kind of car it is a lot...lol, same here. Especially after I debadged the back. I only have the "TRD Sportivo" badge that came with spings on the back.

fnkngrv-Don't but graphics on it! I like your car's color a lot, it unique and so perdy! Of course I'm sure you wouldn't put a graphics kit on it right?? Nice car though!

And Ran Kizama don't worry about those people flamming you, they're making up for something they don't have! Ha! Also deep down they love your car so they put up a shield to pretend not to like it-jeoulousy?.

I catch alot of stares at the lights, its really cool actually. I never got this much attention with my old civic or anyother econobox. My work out partner suggested that I save more gas by, " lifting the rear and carting it around." At that point water almost came out of my nose from LOL!

I wonder about people who need external validation for everything. Sorry about your thingy.

To me, the Yaris HB is a great looking car that is fun to drive, easy on the wallet and reduces my environmental footprint. If it’s not for everyone, there are a lot of other cars out there.

Several people thought it was a hybrid (it does look a little like a Prius from the front). My brother-in-law asked when I was getting the rest of the car. I’ve had several strangers come up and ask me how I like it as they are thinking of buying one. I do get a lot of looks with it. The last car I had that turned so many heads was my 1985 special edition RX-7. This one is a lot cheaper to own.

I was completely invisible driving my last car - a white Dodge Grand Caravan.

Now, I get looks and smiles! People driving 7xx Benzies stop me and ask what my mileage is! My girlfriend loves it! I swear that I can read lips backwards - I see people behind me saying "that's one of those new Toyotas."

I have never been so stared at since I bought my Yaris. The thing is a conversation piece. I have not seen another HB around in the northeast Phoenix / Scottsdale area. So, I see a lot of turning heads.

One guy said, "Hey, do you take that thing inside at night?".

I replied, "Yep, and hang it up."

I got my car lowered right away by toyota too and when people first saw it, they seemed pretty amazed! I've only had 1 person call it cute and that was from some girl on the viosclub in malaysia! Everybody else thinks it looks really aggressive!

I get the obligatory "hybrid" question a lot. One guy even argued with me in the grocery store parking lot for about 5 minutes until I popped the hood for him and convinced him there was no battery!

The funniest comment came from my best friend when he first saw my Pacific Blue LB... "Will it make a blue omlet if I crack it open?"

While I was in Seattle:
"What the heck is a Vitz?"

While I'm on the road in Vancouver:
"Your high beams are on!"

While parked on Vancouver and I'm near my car:
"That's really cute!"
"That's hot!" (Not joking here)

Weirdest thing I've heard:
"The Vitz is the Japanese racing version of the Yaris. I think it's turbo charged."

This comment came from some people in their early teens. I laughed pretty hard when I heard that as I was sitting in my car waiting for someone.

I've had my Yaris for 2 month and I've already had 10 people inquire about the car. Which is weard considering the Yaris Liftback is extremely common in Toronto. Granted, 6 of the enquires were fellow delivery people that I ran into on the streets. It's too bad I'm not collecting commision, cause I must have sold the car to all of them.

I did have one negative comment from a couple of rough looking guys in a very old Acura sedan while at the stop light. They were talking very loudly about the centre dash being the stupidest design ever. I look over, told them that I was used to looking at the centre of the dash cause of my portable NAV (which I've had for over a year). They looked confused, so I just yelled out that I don't use the speedo! They reply "oh ok, sorry". and street light turns green.

well i think if any car could be classified as "cute", the yaris fits the description,

I don't get nearly as many looks as I did with my Stratus(debadged, srt4 wheels, painted headlights), or maybe I just don't notice them. I have been stopped a few times walking away from it and gotten compliments and questions though. To this date I've only come across two haters, both friends of mine. Evidently they think it bears a striking resemblance to Steve Urkel's car.

The Yaris looks to me like half a car. Like someone forgot to add the rear end to the car.
It fits into a lot of parking spaces though. All of the sudden I am seeing half cars everywhere. I saw a "cube" a few days ago. They are making some vehicles square now. It's hip to be square.

Yesterday I was parallel parking in a tiny Yaris sized spot, and an older lady with one of those 4 legged things stroke victims use to get around was standing at the curb the whole time. I thought maybe she was having a problem.....and was maybe going to topple over or something, but when I got out, it turned out she was wanting to ask me about the Yaris, thought it was pretty cool, etc., then she moved out at a pretty good clip.

I love getting looks from guys in jacked up pickups, like "you pussy", knowing I'm getting triple or more their MPG, and have no need to prove my machismo with my rig, screw 'em. "Pregnant roller skate" works for me.

Shortly after I bought my Yaris I was speeding home from the grocery store when a highway patrol passing flipped his blue lights on an pulled me over. He was very nice and asked me for the usual credentials. When he returned with only a warning ticket he started asking questions about the car. We chatted for a while when he suddenly looked at the left dash and looked confused when he didnt see a speedometer. I think he maybe wasnt sure if it really had one. I turned on the key and the instrument panel lit up. He just grinned from ear to ear.

Had one bosnian fellow ask me a few questions about my car, he liked it quite a bit. Other then that it's been pretty fine.

I have a couple...

one was this summer on the way to Maine from Alabama after being boosted for my first month. I was at a Toll Booth in Jersey. The kid in the lane next to me had just pulled up to the booth right as I was leaving mine and was all, "Holy Batshit look at that Corolla go!" when I took off with boost...lmao.

the other was about 3 weeks ago. was at a light with a guy in a 90s Buick Regal. we both took off when the light went green and I didn't really push into it, but he decided to give it some quick gas and I responded. I let into it and he was able to stay about a 1/4 car length behind til my boost lag passed and I left him covered in snow. Saw him this weekend and he found out it was me. He walked up to me and said that I had to have done a v swap or something with nitrous to leave him standing like that.

My coworkers ALWAYS make fun of my car. They joke about picking it up with the forklift and putting it in the back of people's trucks. D:

Mostly I get the usual, "Oh, it's so cute!" And when people ride with me it's always, "Whoa, I didn't think it was this big inside!"
A lot of people are scared to drive with me because I'm reckless. They assume that I'm so small no one will see me.

People will laugh and make fun. They don't believe me when I tell them it's actually pretty sporty. For instance, a few months ago I was racing an RX-8 down the Silver Strand here and I ended up winning. Now, I realize this is because he wouldn't go over 90, but lemme brag, okay? 8D

No, I'm in the military. I work in supply, so we have forklifts and such here.

Turns = game over for me, in a different way though. I always hit curbs! I forget that I have to turn wide sometimes. xD

I just usually get asked about the mpg...i explain to them with not much effort low 50s arent hard to get and that ive had like 17tanks over 50mpg...they become dumbfounded. I say toyota down plays these cars so they can sell prius. Sticker says 30-36...i tell them my worst tank was 38 beating the fuck out of it.

The hybrid question DRIVES ME NUTS! I bought a 2Dr LB car that costs WAY less and gets High 30's at 75 on the freeway (low 40's taking it easy) Not the "Green Soccer Mom Status Symbol" ARGH!

My favorite comparison is My Father-in-law (Who hates little cars especially Japanese ones) Drives a 2000 GMC 1500 4x4, But drives his 200? HONDA GL1800 Goldwing in the summer for MPG's. I KNOW the bike is WAY more fun to drive/ride but I get within 5 MPG's of it and I can drive mine year round in MN....also 2 tires on the 'wing cost $500 and last about 15K...not really saving anything...I told him when he buys an American Bike he can spout off about MY Jap. car.

I have a buddy with a 200? PumpeDuse TDi Jetta that rips on me 'cuz I only get 35-40 he gets 50-52. I asked him; How much his car MSRP? $25K New Timing Belt every 80K? $1K New Turbo? $500-800 oh and how much is your fuel, and does EVERY gas station sell it? 20% higher and NO....And I could buy and maintain 2 Yarii for that! (I've handed him a rubber binder and said Hey look spare parts for "Your" Car!) LOL Can you tell I HATE Timing BELTS?

My most common comment about my Yaris used to be: "Is that a hybrid?" or: "Is that a prius?"

Now since i've put my rear tow hook on my car everyone asks: "What the hell is that red thing on the back of your car?" I've had one group of kids looking at it and one asked if it was some kind of key.

There were only a few US Yaris commercials right when it first came out. They definitely don't want anyone looking too hard for it, they want their dealers to be able to guide people to the Prius. Especially now that used Prius are common.

I've gotten a couple of comments regarding my 2007 Yaris:

a. Is that car a hybrid?

b. Some guy I worked with at a previous job told me that he wouldn't feel safe driving such a small car. Considering that this guy drove a 3/4-ton diesel Dodge 4wd pickup and entered it in pulling contests, it comes as no suprise. His wife probably drives an Excursion or Hummer H2 that gets 8 mpg. I have nothing against pickup trucks (used to own an F-150) or SUV's, but don't have the need for one anymore and enjoy the ability to get 40 mpg and park in small, tight spaces.

c. What kind of gas mileage do you get?

I can think of two plausible reasons for the paucity of TV ads for the Yaris. First, I would imagine that the target demographic for the car doesn't watch that much cable or satellite TV and spends quite a bit of time on the Internet. I have seen ads for the Yaris on the Internet. Second, I wonder if the Yaris is that high a marketing priority within Toyota as they don't make that much profit per unit, but need to have it in the lineup to help keep their CAFE numbers where they need to be.

My Father-in-Law said it looked like a supped up beetle.

An old timer at the VA hospital asked if it was a VW.

I get asked what kind of gas mileage i get in it a lot.

and I have walked off on 3 RX-8s from a rolling start. Seems like they are more show than actual go. probably just means that the kids driving them didn't know how to drive.

I toyed with a 90s vet the other day on the highway, he didn't seem to like it probalby could use a good service on his vet as well as i pulled off on him.

Had some Nissan ridding my ass on a back road that I was already doing 60 on so I dropped it into 3rd and left behind. They tried catching up but almost wrecked when they almost passed their turn doing to 60+ that they where going.

I think we all get the mpg/hybrid questions, lol. My questions though usually revolve around my stripes on my car -_-

1) do those stripes make it faster?

2) is your car what a mustang looks like before it gets the steriod injection? (my personal fav, lol)

3) I bet I can whip that car's a**! (my usual ricer statement I get, which isn't exactly a question, lol)

I don't live in a place where people really are rude enough to make lame comments...My friend ribbed me about it for a bit until he sat in my '12 Yaris and commented how nice it felt. Now he regrets owning a Jeep and spending three times as much per month in fuel compared to me.

I had a couple of friends pick on me about my car. Saying it is a girl car or even a gay car. Well the only thing I say is if it is a girls car then good, that means all of the girls will like my car. And they are wrong when they say it is a gay car because it is my car, and I am NOT gay. I also like to brag to my friends that I always average 36 miles per gallon. So, it doesn't really bother me that much when people make fun of my car. I like it, and that is what counts!!! Oh yeah, a lot of people like my car also.

I was cruising down the interstate the other day and noticed an unusually small something coming from the other direction. I kept my eye on it wondering what it was, as it got closer I identified it as...... an HB Yaris just like mine! Point being I forget how tiny they are, they feel much bigger when inside driving one, mine does to me anyway.

BTW: I left the gas hog 4x4 at home today ('99 Rav4, it only gets 28 to 30 mpg, thus the term, at least as compared to the Yaris), and as luck would have it a big storm blew in. Getting back up the mountain was going to be a bitch, 35 years of living up here I know all the signs, so I stopped at the bottom and aired down my tires to 25 psi from the usual 46. Made it home, not something I'd want to do often but it beat walking.

Funniest thing that happened? A 30 something guy walks by my Yaris SE and keeps on staring. I ignore him, but the next thing that happens stuns me. The guy walks right into a moving cyclist and they both wipe out. Next thing I know, the 30 something guy, bloody-teeth and cut-up-hands and all, says:

"Is your Yaris okay (pointing to the cyclist). . . Be my witness (turning to me)?".

Long story short, the cyclist walked away with his mangled bike and the 30 something guy turned out to be a Yaris fan (albeit a silly one.).
