i got the oem mudflaps today and i got the fronts installed but the rears will not light up correctly. they attach by the plastic pin on the bottom side and 2 screws and spring nuts the top. when i put the plastic pin in the mudflap then attach it to the bottom of the bumper it wont line up right along the top 2 holes. any suggestions?

Use a nail gun :laugh: sorry
What about redrilling the holes.

i didnt drill the rear holes yet, it has notches where the spring nuts are supposed to go and they dont light up at all, the holes in the flaps sit too high. i guess i could redrill the mudflap holes but if i leave the bottom pin in place theres a gap between the flap and bumper

I put my own flaps on on a LB, so I can say for a fact all the holes should line up perfectly, and no gaps anywhere when you install them, front and back.
I was pedantic though and also added a thin layer of silicone caulk on the inside edge of the mud flaps when I installed them to keep them extra-sealed. Basically ran a bead on the outer edge, screwed them down, wiped up the mess very throughly.
And don't forget to spray and clean the hell out of the area with rubbing alchohol before you install them, seriously, you should be able to wipe a paper towel in the area and get nothing off before you consider the spot 'clean enough' to install something like mud flaps. I went through most of a bottle of the stuff and almost a whole roll of paper towels, just swapped the spray-nozzle from some windex over and went to town.

ya i used detailer to clean the surfaces. i know my 09 bumper is different than the 07 and 08, could that be the issue? they arent even close to lining up

Thinking 99 , i do not know if anyone in the US has seen Toyotas latest,
cost saving ideas.
They realeased a report over here stating as of late 08 early 09 all toyota models where possable will share parts .
ie 09 Yaris sedan and Hatch backs will have the same bumpers ,fog lights and a heap
of other parts, they called it lean manufacturing , saveing cost on parts and assembly jigs.
double check your recepit see if it says 08, or 09 mud flaps.

Put these mudguards on my 5-door '09 LB and they fit perfectly:
PT769-52060
http://www.trdsparks.com/part_detail.php?partnum=PT769-52060
My dealer's parts department got them for me though.
There's also these:
00016-52707
http://www.trdsparks.com/displayparts.php?Mdl_dtl=638&Part_cat=26&parts_id=1130
Not sure what the differences are though.

I put them on yesterday along with my spoiler and I can tell you that the bottom hole in the rear does NOT line-up as you mention. Simple fix....mark and drill the holes holding the mud guard on, then affix the bottom with 3m light body trim tape. Worked perfectly. The fronts were super quick and easy.

well the guy at the dealer said hes calling toyota to see if he can get them and when. if he can get them soon he said i can keep my fronts on and just swap out the rears. ill see whats going on though.

Interesting. My flaps look great but I would be very interested to see if the flaps are actually different. They can't be for the front because....those went on like butter.

ya, i installed the fronts with no problem at all. the rears look like they need to be taken in paint and resized to 90%

I think a few people have installed the 08 flaps and confirmed that the dealer stated they were the same. Considering how the front fit, it doesn't seem that way but who knows. Please keep us posted.

Omg someone in this forum used the word pedantic!
This forum rocks, I thought only my pedant friends were so loquacious.

heres the outcome. the fronts will fit both 08 and 09 and the rears are 09 specific. they ordered a new kit for me and i swapped the rears with them and it went on like a charm!

So the '07, '08, and '09 front mudguards are the same, but the '09 rear mudguards are different than the '07 and '08's rear mudguards?
What's the part number for the '09 specific mudguards?

rear install took me 45 mins, i took each tire off and it makes it a lot easier. the fronts i just jacked the car up and turned the wheel slightly in either direction to get to the holes.

Thanks for the part #. Interesting that the only Google result for that part number is this and another thread on YW.

the dealer did not even have that part number set up yet in their computer. he called toyota and they told him to just order the part # and the correct part would arrive haha.

The 08 and 09 rear bumpers are different. Back by the tails, the bumper contour is different (the blue one is my 09 and the black one is Sodium's 08). Also, the tails are slightly different in that the 09s taper in where they meet the bottom and the 08's flare out a bit. It looks like 08s or JDMs would fit, but they would stick out over the bumper contour about 1/2" to 3/4".
The 09s have a different connector than the 08s as well. I believe that the 09 connector is a match to the JDM tails, whereby putting JDMs on an 08 required changing the connector.

I also noticed that the USDM 09's dont have LED tail lamps. The AUDM 09's get LED brake lights, even though they look the same.

i emailed a seller in japan and asked him if he can get me the 2009 jdm tails. he send me a pic back and said we do not have 3 doors here in japan but here are the tails for the 2009 5 door. they were exactly what my yaris came with now. whats the story on that?

12-12-2008, 04:54 AM
the 09 jdm tails are the same appearance-wise to what u have, but the jdm should have a led stop light instead of a globe one.
However, the 09 jdm rs tails are the same as the 07 jdm rs tails.
mikenacarato
12-12-2008, 07:36 AM
so i still cant use the rs tails without changing my bumper? but i can use the regular jdm tails?

12-12-2008, 07:48 AM
Yeah, you can't have them sitting flush without the 07 bumper or 07/09 RS bumpers. The normal 09 bumper will not do.
Hope the attached picture helps explain the bumper contour lines.

Even if we were willing to buy an extra 08 bumper just so the lights would sit flush, would the bumper even fit? I have heard that there are a lot of changes in the new yaris under the surface that make different body pieces hard-impossible to fit on, which kind of sucks, because those of us with 09s will have to wait until body kit makers come out with compatible ones!

I think someone did a side by side comparison between an 08 and an 09, and found that the bumpers clippings all line up. So I'm thinking they are interchangeable. Someone go try to find out .. LOL

Correct - Sodium and I did a side by side with his 08 and my 09. All sheet metal and mounting holes for plastic to sheet metal are identical. The only exterior changes are F&R bumpers and head and tail lights.
