i am getting this spooling/winding noise when i reach 60kmh it gets louder at 100kmh. when i slow down as well.

at first i thought it was the deck making the engine noise but its not that.

anyone has any idea what might cause this???

belt, pulley, bearing, tire ----4 choices...... help me to narrow it down.

where do you hear it coming from?
does it do it at all speeds?
does it happen in neutral/park
weather?

if it is not one of the above 4 then you may need to take it to the dealer under warranty and do a test drive with the mechanic in the car to verify.....

That sounds like a gear noise to me - top gear whining? Then again the less fatalist view would say belt, pulley, bearing, tire. ;) I'm used to having strange problems with cars though so I'm kinda trained to expect the worst.

its not the tires.
the belt will make noise when pulling off...not that.

i start hearing it at 60kmh then it gets louder at 100kmh
if i release the X at around 140kmh and allow the car to slow for itself i hear it.
when i stick it in neutral the noise reduces.

i carried to the deal and they said thats normal.
i drove another yaris and didnt hear any noise.

Gear whine.
My sedan didn't make it when new but did develop it at about 10,000 kl (~6,000 m). Mines very faint but noticeable when the radio is low. Most noticable when driving steady above 100 kph and feathering the throttle slightly in and out as traffic speed varies.
But it's nothing compared to the whine when reversing into my driveway. That gear sound reminds me of the old British cars of the 60's. Very cheesy sounding.
