Does anyone with a 5 speed manual with a tach know what the RPMs are at 60 mph? My daughter's Echo automatic reads about 2400 at 60 mph while my wife's Scion xA manual reads about 3200 rpm in 5th at 60 mph. With better mpg for the Echo. Sorry if this is posted in the wrong forum. Thanks, Mark S.

I'm below 3k when I'm going 60....I think usually toward 2k.

My Scion tC revved higher than my Yaris...and so does my sister's xA.

the gearing is different in the autos so that at highway speeds it sits at lower rpms

my 5spd yaris sits like yours at 3200 while our automatic aveo sits at like 2600rpm

the yaris goes around 2500rpm at 60mph while my echo went a little under 2500rpm.

Actually, i'm doing 2700rpm@62mph and 2500rpm@62mph. both 5 speed manual.

the yaris and the echo have different final gear ratio. i never checked the ratio of the 1st and 2nd gear, but my sales told me they were different....

here's a little file i got for my echo... those are the gear ratios for the echo btw... just find the gear ratios for the yaris and the xA to find out what speed you get at redline.

Hi Guys; thanks for the replies. I took a Yaris base for a test drive yesterday. The instrumentation had a spedo but no tach. I know that the engine is the same as the Echo and the Scion xA. I was a bit disappointed in the xA gear ratio for 5th gear (wanted less rpm at a higher speed for better mileage). The xA is about 3200 at 60 mph. Seems like the Yaris manual 5 speed is geared for better efficiency and lower rpms in 5th gear. I'll probably buy the one I tried, now that I know what's going on at 60 mph or above. Many thanks. Mark S.

One thing I like best about Yaris 5M incomparo to other ecomobilia is the TALL gearing in 5th gear cog. If you wish, You can boost this even MORE dramatically by adding larger tyre, as the circumference will increase and your tyre revolution per kilometre will deacrease dramatically. be aware now the intake/exhaust is off tune at ~ 80-90 kph and then the car comes alive at 75-80mph (sorry for th ekilometre americans!) again so best at 55-60mph or 75-80 otherwise a bit buzzy due to fluid dynamic superharging out of tune. Sport bike rider know whta I reference. When I use the daughter's car for commute I travel at 120-140kph without fear of overrevving and acheive good L/100k fuel effiecency. You would say 38-41 mile per US gallon at high speed highway! But I do NOT use my brakes like other poor divers whom must have their left foots on the brake and tailgate withing a car length - not good! You are not supposed to apply brake on the autostrada unless your are exiting - if you brake you follow too closely or are just pissed off driver:evil: Stay off th ebrake dumbass american driver (at least in the hi-sped thru lane for autobahnen-style)
