so i pretty much dented the top of the driver door area, about 2 feet long of paint scratch and few dents from using the screw driver to pry the door open a bit.
Question is how much would the dealer charge? Should i find a private mech?
PS: I will post pictures tomorrow....pictures woulda helped! llol

yep, it would have, but to give you an idea without pictures, I was hit on the left hand side just behind the driver door. Pushed in the side about and half inch, and took the paint off. area of damage was about 10 inches by 6 inches. My work was done by the dealer atthe total cost of $467.00. Yeah, it could have been cheaper, but insurance was paying and picked the place. So, yes you can get it done cheaper, but does that mean it is better. You just have to look and ask many questions. I'd start by asking you insurance company what auto body shops they use in your area for customer claims and go there. my .02 of course

Most dealers have gotten out of the body work business (at least in Virginia). Collision Centers now do majority of work. Like most jobs, get a 2-3 quotes as this should be a very uncomplicated procedure.

I had my floor damage (my floor was getting wet wen it rain cause I hitted something and the under body got damage. ther removed all the interior, dried my carpets, did the bodywork under my car and I paid $250. But this was because the work was done by a guy the contract (he doesn't work for Toyota)

fearturtle44 is correct, at best most dealers outsource body work; but it is still expensive. Find a reputable repair shop and they do can do the job just as well but much cheaper...

Anybody who does good work is in business for themselves in the body industry. I would not want a dealership body team doing my work. Find a reputable body shop and give it to them.

call the Dentdoctor, or a local mobile dent fixer upper dude. They will patch up nics, scrathes and some minor dents for a much more reasonable price then the dealership or any autobody shop
