it helps keep the paint from fading and blistering from the heat of the engine

Found out the hard way after removing it from my Beretta.
Paint on the hood went bad in less then a year and the clear coat started to peel off.

there might be different req't for different areas. It is also a fire-extinguishing blanket that covers the engine in the event of an under hood fire.

Yea, its weird.. our BMWs have it, both Nissan's do, my Ford doesn't and now neither does the Yaris.

the Beretta did it cause its a chevy and chevies in my experience have paint problems. and the little I4 doesn't get that hot I'm sure your had the 3.1, am I correct. and I want one so that the hood won't be so hot.

I'm pretty sure it part of the cold weather package. Helps the engine get up to temp sooner.

Thats the BLITZ setup, and I believe thats also HYDE's car... both of which I have asked several times for more pictures of.

It is not necessary.. I found a strip down yaris with no package on the dealer lot here in Wisconsin.

My liftback has the cold weather package but no insulation.

Well then, I cannot think of any other reason why it would be on some and not on others. Living in several different colder climate cities, I have always installed insulation to help warm up the engine in the winter. I can't imagine that these little engines get hot enough to blister the paint and would need insulation for that. Why is it on some and not others I wonder

most likely it is a UK and Canadian thing for cold weather packages. can anyone here prove me wrong with a US model that has cold weather and the insulation? Please do so we can rule this theory out.

1. seem like canadian rs has it... (any exceptions welcome)

2. sedan with cold weather package most likely has it... (any exceptions?)

3. liftback has the most varient...:iono: (most likely on ones with power package?)

ps.
so...
sedan with cwp has it...?
liftback with pp (ie 60/40 folding rear seat) has it...?

Can anyone with a Canadian HB and hood insulation post a picture?

I have some insulation left over from my speaker install that is suitable for a heat sheild and I want to fashion my own.

The hood insulation has 2 functions:

1) noise shield (to keep engine noise from entering the cockpit
2) fire retardant - insulation will melt in the event of an engine bay fire thus acting as a blanket to smolder the flames

The insulation seems to be installed on the sedans and RS models in Canada (I have not yet checked my own RS; however, I will confirm later today.

"09 USDM 5 door LB, CWP, no power, -No insulation- Should I get it?

Meteorite_Marty

Canadian 5-door hatchback.

LE model with convenience package.

NO underhood insulation. :( Must only be on the RS package for Canada.

Funny thing is, the dealer was preaching so much about how Canadian sold cars are better than US because they have winterized features built in (weather stripping on doors, better seals, better heater, as well as additional safety features (daytime running lights, anti theft engine disabler). He claimed US cars don't have any of these things, which accounts for their lower sales price.

Now I want the underhood insulation. I'd like to quiet the curbside "ratttle" of the engine, every bit I can. If it has termal benefits and fire retardant features, that's awesome too!

Hmmm... Can it simply be ordered through Toyota's parts department? And, how much will the insulator and clips cost? Thanks.

toyota list price on the insulator is 80 bucks and the clips are a buck thirty each. im sure sparks could be cheaper on the price.......

Would this really help with noise/retaining heat? If so, I think I'll purchase one since it gets very cold in the winter here.

I love modding this car. I follow a few simple rules, but not all need to be met for any given upgrade:

- upgrade must be Genuine Toyota, or equivilant OEM specific to Yaris
- upgrade must be practical
- upgrade must enhance look/appearance

I can make excuses to satisfy most of my criteria, in order to convince myself the upgrade is what I want.

Excuses for the hood insulation... noise dampening, paint preservation, fire retardant, assist in cold starts.... anything else?

As mentioned, I ordered the hood insulation and 5 mounting clips for my 5-door hatchback, here in Canada. Thank you Rockland for the part numbers (I used them as a reference to buy the part up here in Canada). Here are the pictures of my installation tonight. Really easy... took me longer to clean the underside of the hood than to install it. Sorry about the salt and slush and not the cleanest car; such is life with Canadian winters.

I installed this and noticed a difference where the hood stays iced up when cold. In other words..it's insulating the heat given off by the motor. I didn't notice much noise reduction.:burnrubber:

I'd like to believe it is doing all those things. I can't see how it couldn't, especially for the noise and cold starts. My cold engine warning light disappears faster once I get going on my trips. I do notice the ice melts around that area a lot faster.

Again, don't know if its me and wishful thinking, or if the insulator is actually purposeful. I would think Toyota has a reason for it to be mounted.
