hello guys,
i noticed on my HB'07 that when i am parked and the engine is idling, everytime the A/C kicks in, the engine rpm goes down. during this time, the engine is not stalling but still it annoys me. the engine sounds better when the A/C is off. (i have 2NZ-FE engine)
in older cars, you just adjust a screw attached to a diaghpragm mechanism to further increase the rpm when A/C is cutting in.
is there anybody here who can tell me how to adjust the rpm or there is no other way but to take it to the toyota service center?
thanks!

Why would it bug you? it saves gas.
my 1nz-fe idles at about 400rpm.

it's all electronic now, the idle is automatically kept at the lowest possible engine speed... and yeah, with the AC on, it can make things kinda shaky!

plus in obd2 cars if you adjust the idle you get a check engine light.

thanks! It annoying but thats the way it is unless they have a flash to fix it. You have a motor controlled electronic throttle and the ECU is looking to run as close to lean misfire and at lowest rpm possible. hey man, Just relax and Enjoy the green technology!

My '08 pretty much does the same thing with the idle, but, I think I notice the idle more since I don't hear a click when the compressor engages-Toyota is the only one I know of that makes a near silent compressor.

hi guys,
thank you for all your replies and i am honored to see that even Mr. eTiMaGo cared to reply on this post.:w00t:
i just want to answer some of your replies:
1. yes i am saving money at low rpm but i am afraid i might be losing my engine in the long run. i am also in Saudi Arabia so fuel is not a problem:burnrubber:.
2. based on the repair manual shared to us by Mr. eTiMaGo (my chance to say thank you Sir!), on air conditioning page AC-66, with AC off, engine should be @ 550 - 650rpm. when AC is on, engine should be @ 700 - 850rpm. if it is not, check the idling control system. unfortunately, i can not find where it is in the manual.
3. also on the same manual, page AC-09, from the communication table, the AC amplifier is sending to the ECM an idle up signal. this might be causing the problem too.
4. i do not have tach, so i am just guessing my rpm, but for sure, my engine idles low and very smooth when AC is off.
thank you again guys, i hope to hear from you again and the others as well.

Yea mine does the same thing and the engine almost cuts out cause it starts shaking but the ECU picks that up and adds a little more fuel.

usually when the car is moving and i had to stop for the red light, i can feel it shake and when i reached a complete stop, the engine regains rpm.
my car is already 65,000kms old. at first, i thought the engine shakes when the AC cuts-off. it was too late for me to realize that it was the opposite. the warranty runs-out already so i guess i have to pay now if i want it adjusted.

I have the same problem. It used to bug me, but now I'm kinda used to it. Yaross, you are right, with older cars you could turn a screw and adjust the idle rpms as you wanted. It seems, the newer the car, the more technology goes into them and the harder it is to change/work on them.
Mine gets shacky even when I turn my fog lights on,huh go figure.

How do you get the idle adjusted? Do you need to take it toyota, or can you reset the ecu? How can you reset the ecu?
