They actually go on the outside of the plastic trim... they mount on the metal door sill. PM me if you're still interested.

Yes, they attach with double sided tape (included).

it looks like etched rather than transparent

I have these. The script is acid etched on, has a frosted appearance. So no, lights won't show through them. I still have the box.....
