Foggy WIndows

Most of the time on a cold day I have to keep my heater cranked to 3 or 4 just to keep my windows somewhat, not totally, clear. This of course makes the inside of the car feel like a sauna after a while not to mention eats gas. Has anyone else come across this issue and maybe know of a way to fix it?

Another thing I've noticed is that my when I take my foot off the gas the car seems to try and slow itself down rather quickly. I could be coasting down a hill and it will feel like the car is trying to slow down on its own rather than just coasting. I've never had this issue with other cars I've owned so I was just wondering if this was maybe some sort of feature built into the car? I read the FAQ and noticed something about DFCO which seemed similar to what I'm talking about, but I'm not totally sure.

Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

The problem isn't with my back window, the defroster works fine, but rather with the front windsheild as well as the driver's side and passenger windows.

the dial for vent location - - all the way to the right is the front defrost...use it. it should clear up the window

Where is the vent set? You want it to take in fresh air and NOT recirculate. If you have it on recirculate it will vaporize the water and stear the windows.

Search this forum for DFCO (its why the car slows down.. in a nut shell when you foot is off the gas the car cuts fuel to the injectors so that you use little to no fuel when coasting.. helps greatly with city driving. )dfco stands for decelerating fuel cut off

there are a few threads on this. its not a problem at all.. rather a way to save gas :)



as far as the defrost.. turn the vent dial to the defrost mode (not pushing the button for the rear..

also the knob with the fan speed has to be turned to taking air from outside to help the defroster work best.

and the vent selection has to be on defrost.. the defrost on this car works awesome.. chances are you dont have the knobs in the right position.. read the manual :)

The A/C kicks on automaticly when you dial up the heat and turn the fan onto 1 or 2.Try it! Works fast.:clap:

Ok a few things
1. Yea this car does tend to fog a bit more than others i have owned.
2. Throwing the defrost on does eat the gas as it automatically turns the ac compressor on, there are a few things you can do to defrost a lot of the time without turning to the gas eating defrost:
A. Crack a window about 1/8 - 1/4"
B. Put the vent on to the just feet setting, the yaris will leak some air up thru the front window vent helping to deforst the front window without turning the ac on.
C. Take the round vent directors off to the extreme sides of the dash and direct the airflow up and across the front windshield (on the downside your side windows may fog a bit more, you can alternate throwing them on the front windshiled or the side windows)
This stuff will mitigate the extent to which you have to throw the car into full defrost mode.

I have this problem. What I do is.... exactly what rich mentions... somewhat.

I turn the heat up to 3-4. Onces everything is clear, I set the dial to 1-2. Then I crack open my driver side window just a tiny bit. I don't know the science to it but when I do this, it clears all side windows and the fog problem disappears. I also point the side vents toward the driver/passenger side window. Just try cracking a window a small amount.

Maybe it'll help to take that fog machine out of your pass seat.

I do this for any window w/ a person near it.

Seems the body heat from passengers causes the windows to fog up.

If you crack them a bit, it seems to clear up this issue fairly well.
