Im just doing my springs ive managed to do the rears... after a while
but i just need help with the fronts.
the part in question is:
Next, pry up the rubber dust cap.
http://www.yarisworld.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=912&stc=1&d=1154134115
Under the cap is a nut holding the top of the strut assy., to the shock tower of car. Get your 17mm box wrench and loosen the nut while HOLDING the center from spinning, with a 6mm allen key.
Once loose, remove enitre assy., from car.
how do i remove that bolt? i cant seem to get a spanner ot a wrench in that small space?
is there a trick to doing it?
P.S. I havent done this part :
We need to remove the (2) Sway Bar end links, (2) Strut bolts, and (1) Brake bolt.
Follow the bolts with sizes marked, and remove.. any order is fine.
yet cos i was concerned i wont be able to remove the wiper section and that bolt.
any help would be appreciated :cry::cry:

I used offset wrenches and it worked fine. Also you can take the whole wiper assembly off for easy of access.

The wiper section is remarkably easy to remove

good luck getting all the plastic puzzle pieces put back together lol.
You need a hex key and an offset wrench. Getting the nut off of the strut is a pain in the ass even with the right tools.

Follow Chris's DIY down to the last period. I followed it and me and a buddy had it done in less then 2 hrs and that includes us sitting around shootin the breeze.

i managed to score myself a spanner that works. is undoing that bolt supposed to be hard or does it just pop off easily?

Sears was the only place close I found a 17mm x 19mm offset box wrench. No wiper motor removel required. The wrench costs only $16 dollars and made all the difference in the world. Maybe I should start a "traveling wrench club" that is, keep mailing the same wrench around the country to different owners..would probably only cost a few bucks to ship! Would be interesting to see how many people could use the same wrench in a year!!!!:w00t::w00t::w00t:

Would a TRD strut and spring set eliminate the need to cut bumpstops?
Also, is a front end alignment be required after?

I would definitely do the alignment after you lower it. When I done mine it felt like it was fine but then a couple thousand miles later I had it checked and it was out of alignment pretty bad and it didnt even feel like it. So ya I would have it alignment. My local Big O done it in like 10 minutes.
With the nut on top of the strut I have seen people do it without taking the wiper cowl off. I think its just easier for some with the cowl off. Just make sure you hold the allen screw down while taking the nut off, and follow the instructions on chris07lb's DIY.
The bump stops is a topic that has many different opinions. The bump stops are there to keep the system from bottoming out. Its like if you lowered the car an inch that means you are an inch closer to hitting the bump stop so then I would cut the bump stop and inch. Two inches then I would cut it 2 inches. It just gives the whole assembly that much more room to travel without bottoming out.

Yeah, might be a kinda oddball item to find. We have a nice SEARS hardware store by me that sells all the wrenches and sockets alacarte. I was even able to find a 5.5mm socket to drop a Saturn steering column there!

a few cuts and fabricating a special 17mm with a handle later we managed to get it done.
what an experience. only took me around 6 or 7 hrs :P
it was only that top nut that was giving us the shits.
thanks for all the help
