So my new-every-two with Verizon Wireless is coming up soon -- 1/31/09 -- and I need your opinions on the following smart phones. I was thinking of getting one of the following:

1. LG Voyager

2. Blackberry 8330/8830

The thing is I've never owned a Blackberry before and I sorta trust LG already.

Please help!!

I've had nothing but defective phones from LG. (8 of them to be exact, within the same year.)

Alltel gave me a BlackBerry Pearl for free after all of those, and I love it.

I would love an 8330 or 8830 (or any with a full keyboard for that matter) even more, but I'd definitely recommend a BB to anyone.

Oh yeah, a QWERTY keyboard is a must for me. Sorry to hear about your awful LG experience. I'll add the Pearl on my list. Thanks!

Well the Pearl isnt a QWERTY keyboard. O.o

It's called "SureText", it's only two buttons per key but acts like T9. You get used to it, but I'd definitely get one with a QWERTY if I were you.

My gf has the voyager and we love it. Make sure to get the unlimited data plan. You can even watch utube videos on it. Can take a 8gb micro SD card too, and the pictures are pretty good, 2.0mp

I'm sorry if this comes across as naive.....but if you have no use for a smart phone other than to watch tv and text message...don't waste your money....

it's not worth having something just to say you have it...especially during this economic time...unless you're financially capable and willing to dump the money for it (a la some discount you'll be getting with your 'upgrade') then go for it....

I really like the whole QWERTY keyboard and sadly enough, I do text a lot. Do you have any suggestions, Shroom?

Get the blackberry curve. It's what I have and it works great and has the full keyboard that you said you want.

OK, maybe it'll be between the curve and voyager... Both got excellent reviews so far from the websites I've been to. Next stop will probably be a visit to a Verizon store for the look & feel. Thanks guys!

I hope I didn't come across edgy...I kinda have that effect with typing....

I would suggest either a nokia or a sony for at least reliability (manufacturer standing behind their product and warranty)

+1

The Curve has been by far my favourite phone. Caps on the qwerty was weird at first (hold down letter to capital), but now I'm used to it. The only thing that bugs me about it is that the camera is nice, but it won't take video. It's a small gripe though since there are far better options for that anyways.

Oh no, not edgy at all Shroom. I am open to all comments/suggestions

Nokia really is my 1st choice but Verizon carries a small collection of Nokia phones and they don't have the QWERTY keyboard that I want.

I don't think they carry Sony cellphones at all. :frown:
