Exactly, thanks. The poll was meant to stay pretty general. An "S" sedan is still a sedan. If we got into options packages, trim levels, modded or not, etc. it would be overkill for this particular poll.

the '08 BARCELONA RED base model automatic sedan was $13,700 , now only $11,500 for trade with 6,000 miles . Bought it last MAY . What a bunch a :bs: . The '08 base model 5 speed 2 door L.B. and convenience package was $11,650 and now books for $9,085 ( average for CLEAN trade in value at EDMUNDS and K.B.B. with 14,500 mis. ) .This was bought NOVEMBER of '07 .

its really more that people on this site have more liftbacks than sedans, as hot hatches are 'in'.

i think we see more hatches in canada - - mainly 5drs i think....they werent much more (4-500, i think) than a 3dr w/ the same options...

Same here. No matter where I go, I see way more sedans than Liftbacks.
I'm not sure what the sales break down is (Toyota doesn't publicly announce it :frown:), but I believe the sales are fairly even or lean heavier toward sedans.

It's obvious that liftback owners flock to this site much more so than sedan owners. It's really because generally, LB's have a younger average buyer who are more likely to be on a forum. And, the LB's have more of a unique "cult" following that put's you in a "club". LB owners are usually looking for more attention with what they are driving while sedan owners are looking to be more anonymous and conservative. Hence why we have a high % of LB people here.

It's unfortunate for the sedan owners, but when the word Yaris is used, the Hatchback will be what most people think of.

I don't know why (aside from the higher uniqueness factor) since they are both equally common with the sedan more likely a bigger seller in the US.

When I do see another Yarii, it's generally a LB. But then again, the sedans blend in to just about all other sedans out there (while there are those that I can identify at a distance, due to a few unique features, but the Yaris sedan lacks these).

Traded in my 2008 2dr AT for 2010 5dr MT with everything except daytime running lights and fog lights. Dealer thought he was going to give me only $8500 for the 2008 with just over 11000 miles. I told him I would talk to Honda. By the time I got home from the Honda dealer (He wanted to give me $7000) The Toyota dealer found an extra $1000 to add to the trade in value. Love the extra set of doors and I always have prefered to shift for myself!

We own two 2009 Yaris S models:
1. 3 Dr Hatchback S w/5 spd (funny, it came with an RS grille emblem)
2. 5 Dr Hatchback S w/4 spd A/T
We bought the 5 Dr first and were so impressed we ordered the 3 DR (little did we know it would take almost 8 months to get it as the 5-spd S model 3 Dr Hatchbacks are rare; especially with only one option other than the S pkg which was the power pack). They are both great cars and I have spent quite a bit on TRD and other items for the 3 door.

I think that'll work best for me since for some bizarre reason the rear windows don't pop out on the "3 door" like hatchback windows used to do - even though I don't need all those doors at least I can open the rear windows with the "5 door". In 2008 I ordered the Sport with everything they had to offer. Waited 3 months for it to come in from Japan. Became angry got another dealer and ordered my 3 door liftback with as much as possible.

Had the stick ons put on the bumper, and the door Yaris name on the floor; a stainless steel exhaust tip, bought some thin see thru floor mats from Walmart to keep the nice ones clean and new. Had a GPS permanently installed in the right glove box; and one of those 300 dollar things that tells you your speed and all else, I don't understand it but my husband likes it; I then had a backup camera installed and in reverse ofcourse the camera displays on the GPS and my grandson says wow...You got High Definition backup. All in all I spent about 20,000 and I do not miss my Lexus except for the cornering lights.

Thus far I have 10,101 miles on my '08 and I use NU Finish as its easy to apply and take off. I love my Yaris better than any auto I have ever had. I had a SC430 Lexus, sold it and bought a ES330 Lexus, sold it and bought my Yaris "CIPNGAS" and the Toyota Service Reps all say, "Yes Mam, we know, don't scratch it, don't dent it, put your tools back in the trunk or we'll be in trouble!"

I bought the 3 dr liftback because its easy to get in and out of and I wanted it because I sit up high and its small and cute. I am one of those young 69 year old kids who is thrilled with my car.

My brother couldn't stand it so he bought a Honda Fit which is also cute and has 4 drs, liftback. When he found out his Fit was larger than my Yaris, he immediately went out and bought a Smart Car.....LOL.... Life is getting "funner" everyday....

Hi, i own a 2001 Vitz RS NCP10 model with the 2nz-fe engine (1.3l 16v). I know that in Japan and in the US as well they are called even Toyota Echo. Can anyone tell me if the Yaris/Vitz and the Echo are the same? Is the gearbox of the 1.5l echo the same as mine? I need to change the clutch and saw one on ebay which is not that expensive. It's an F1 Racing stage3 clutch kit. It says that it's only compatible with the 2000-2005 Echo 1.5. That's why i'd like to know if it fit's straight away my gearbox, and is the 1NZ-FE gearbox the same as the 2NZ-FE.

it is not the same engine, i know that much. I doubt it is the same tranny, but even if it isn't it still could fit your car. You should e-mail the seller and ask.

i'm guessing they are the same transmission, it seems that the chassis code is all that is being listed, with the manual or auto transmission. I know some others here will be able to verify that better than I can.

I got a 2010 Yaris YX Sedan here in Saudi Arabia! There are YB hatchbacks here but resale value is not that competitive compared to sedan as potential buyers are mostly family expats looking for sub-compact cars. Yaris is very popular among Filipino expats here in Saudi Arabia as Toyota is known for its cheaper maintenace cost and availability of spare parts!

I also bought my Yaris at a Toyota dealership that I know I can trust, and which treats me like a valued customer.

I intend on repaying all their kindnesses & their excellent care of my car (and myself) by being a lifetime customer!

To me, finding a decent car dealership you trust & like is like finding a good doctor or a great job, or even that "someone special" in your life: you know you don't have to worry about ever needing to look any further for the perfect fit for you, because you already have it!

Hi everyone. I am the owner of a 2007 red sedan. Live in Chilliwack British Columbia about 100 Kilometres east up the Fraser Valley from Vancouver. The car now has 97k Kilometres on it. I think in metric now so bear with me on this.

Bought a 2007 3 dr HB MT base, silver in color a couple months ago. It has 59000 miles on it. This is the first Toyota I have ever bought and I love it! I am 6' 5" and am more comfortable in this car that I am in our minivan. And you can't beat the gas mileage! Best vehicle buy I ever made.

You need to add add'l option Yaris sedan "S".


They are both actually same car names as Vios or Belta in rest of the world. Only difference is the air filters. I am not sure why Toyota keeps calling it Yaris Sedan in the US/Canada. Belta may be a rough name but Vios is much better and attractive name than Yaris Sedan or Yaris S.

Nice, you take good care if it. The bumper is different from the U.S. spec 07 through 11. Different bumper standards for different countries. I usually like the styling cues on non U.S. spec versions better than the U.S. spec version, but in this case I like the U.S. spec rear bumper better. Your non U.S. spec version still has a great nose though.

Mine is a Red 2008 3dr S model liftback.

It has most everything I wanted but a 5-speed. I searched every dealer in the state, there were only 3 with 5-speeds and they were not S models, therefore no tachometer. They were all ugly colors too. Red was a very high priority, so I'm very happy I got that requirement filled.

Unfortunately I was without a car (long story) so I had no time to wait. Although I did ask dealers if they expected to receive any 5 speeds in the near future and that was futile.

I bought it new in Oct of 2007, it's only got 16,000 miles, the lowest of any car I've ever owned. But that's because it's my "City Car" :)

Bought an 07 hatch w/ 5MT. Got the Power Package (15 inch wheels, AC, power windows) an aftermarket alarm and Ohio tags that read "2DR SPK".

Test drove the Nissan Versa, Honda Fit and Mazda 3. Liked the Yaris better for its transmission and clutch, skid pad numbers, VVT and mileage.

93,000 miles on the clock and still getting about 40 in my daily commute.

My 2013 is listed as a 4 door lift back according to the vin. But I was looking at the 3 door but the dealer didn't have one on the lot. But I'm glad about my purchase, anyway. Having the other 2 doors doesn't hurt. Being a single person, I have plenty of room for me and my things. Mine is a black sand color according to the vin.

The sedan, last year made and available for the states. I plan on keeping it, unless they bring the sedan back. I like the added space and regular car looks the sedan brings, but prefer wagons and vans, bein an old tv repair dude, turned mechanic, and home handyman, getting wood and whatnot. A Yaris wagon would be awesome. But for me, the sedan is fine.

IIRC, this body style was available in Canada for the 2001 model year (as the ECHO). If it had been available in the U.S. at that time,I would have purchased one...rather than the Suzuki Swift I ended up purchasing.

My 2013 LE is a 5 door. I would have preferred a 3 door, but it's a former rental and I suppose more doors is a requisite in that industry because they only offered 5 door models. Loving it though.

Hi Yarisworld!

This week I picked up a 2005 Vitz for my partner (she has just starting driving and didn't feel comfortable in my car) but so far haven't the chance to find out much about it. It is a Japan model (we're in New Zealand), 1500cc, has push button ignition & keyless entry, minidisc & dvd players and seems to have gps but only Japan maps (all very similar to my .jp '06 Lexus IS350).

Interested in finding out more about it like what package it is and any easy upgrades!

I'm going to think that i've come to the right place... As long as you guys in this forum support the XP10 platform:biggrin:

Right now my ride is (and by a fortunate accident) a 2000 Echo Coupe Automatic (yeah, I know. A/T sucks sometimes). It's all beaten up but still has some spirit left.

But the one I choose and by a big margin, is the 1st gen 3dr hatchback, in the RS outfit. That shape will remain as my all-time favorite. I had a 5dr hatchback, was my first car, and one of the best cars I had so far:headbang:
