Pros-
Looks hot
Loud
Cons-
Big
Heavy
The amp i have is a wee underpowered for these subs
too much for my car, in my opinion, im not entering any sound competitions
1 12" Pioneer something or other

The unsightly neon tube will not be coming along, it cracked when i took a turn too fast and my sub flipped over in my old car:bellyroll:
Pros-
Decent Sound
Perfectly matched up wattage wise with my amp
Lighter than the one above
smaller, wont demolish my trunk space
Cons
not as loud, but still for this car may be a comftorable match

you'll get better gas milage and put less strain on your electrical system if you run a single sub with a smaller amp.

gas mileage? From the weight of the heavy subs or the strain on the electric system?

I'd go with a single. I'm running a single 10" Alpine R. What amp are you using?

I'd go with single. I have a 500 watt MAX in my truck and it rattles the spair tire under the bed. And I think that Pioneer is rated at 800 watts max (?) So it'll hit hard enough.

yeah one sub will give enough boom in the small car to make music sound great.

No one asked what kind of music you listen to!

I had a low end amp and speaker system in my Horizon. Some one broke in and stole it. Used the insurance to install duel amp and duel sub woofer. Burned out in a year. Wish you better luck than I had.

that's because it doesn't matter.

It also makes a world of difference between the liftback and the sedan. The LB i would say the 1 would be enough but in a sedan, 2 is the way to go.

no... no it doesn't... the only reason why sub size matters is if you are talking about a small space to put it in. An 8" can sound exactly like an 18" or a 12", and if you get enough 8's, they can even be just as loud, if not louder, and do it all in just as much space, if not less.... but the single 18" will cost a lot less.
size matters not...

When I am in my other car and have the sound cranked to the max, when im driving and the bass hits uber hard i can physically feel the car slow down.

the 700ish watt = 1hp thing doesn't really convert the way you people are trying to convert it... watts of electrical power to mechanical.... ehhhh errrr.... Mechanically 1hp has to do with moving a specified weigh a certain distance... not sure if time is involved tho.
The effect you feel on your car is most likely a huge voltage sag which would cause a weaker spark in your engine, and the alternator to engage hard to get as much power as possible.
