What I don't get is that I thought the Yaris outperforms the Fit in 0-60????? Yet that article says the Yaris has sluggish performance while the Fit has "peppy" performance?

Interesting article, thanks for the link. And I'm not sure what the official numbers are, but I know that on the day I test drove both the Yaris and the Fit, the Fit felt no "peppier" than the Yaris at all.

The Yaris has always beat the Fit in CTO comparisons...

The 09' Fit got a bump in HP (I think to 115), maybe that's why it's "peppy".

It's interesting that the Fit's initial cost is $2300-$2900 more than the Yaris but the CTO for 5 years is only $800 more. Higher resale?

According to Road and Track, the Yaris is faster.

At our test track, the Yaris flat-out smoked the other two to 60 mph, taking 8.5 seconds against the Fit’s 9.0 and the Versa’s 9.1.

However, in Motor Trend with automatics, the Yaris was mid-pack between the three, with the Vera being the fastest, and the Fit being the slowest.

That article is from April 2007. The 2009 Fit's 118hp, up from the 07/08's 109hp, may out accelerate the Yaris' same ol' 106hp.

Cool, thanks for the link to that article!

It would be interesting to see... I'm not sure that an increase of 9 HP would make up for a whole half-second. Maybe not enough for better 0-100 mph results either.

At our test track, the Yaris flat-out smoked the other two to 60 mph, taking 8.5 seconds against the Fit’s 9.0 and the Versa’s 9.1. Aside from its obvious lack-of-weight advantage (it weighs only 2295 lb.!), that quick time was achieved because the gearing of the Yaris’ 5-speed manual transmission allowed it to hold 2nd gear to 60 mph, while the 6-speed Versa and shorter-geared 5-speed Fit required shifts to 3rd. Things start to even out by the quarter mile, and by the time these cars hit 100 (wait for it…and then wait some more), the Versa edges ahead with a 25.5-sec. run, beating the Yaris by 0.2 sec. and the Fit, which feels dead-slow at that speed, by 2.1 sec. Although none of them will set your hair on fire with speed, all three are quicker than the Toyota Prius, Honda Civic Hybrid, Scion xB and Volkswagen Jetta 2.5.
