The RROD will never truly go away for what I've read.

M$ knew about this problem even before they started shipping out the XBOX to costumers, and now have have even set aside more than $1 billion just to cater to affected costumers.

To me that looks like typical MS: Patch the problem instead of fixing it for good. :iono:

I guess MS is plagued with deaths,
Blue Screen of Death
Red Ring of Death
Next would be something like EOD - Everything of death....

We got our 360 fixed by a third party in less than a week for about $80 including shipping. Totally worth it NOT to go to MicroSoft.

And here I was trying to decide between an Xbox 360 or a PS3. The problem with the PS3 is the $399 price. I could get two R comp tires for that!

The new 360 is supposed to have a bigger fan on the chipset.
From what I've been told by a old highschool buddy on the Xbox dev team, The damn thing just overheats and fries components. I took my case apart and cut a hole with a holesaw then attached a $5dollar pc fan in the slot. Haven't had a any problems in 8 months.

does the warranty refund you the shipping costs?

( I don't know how shipping works for the warranty don't have a newer console from anyone)

lol from what I'm reading and watching on the news blu-ray is heading the way of other Sony 'innovations' so I'd rather wait for the next console....

If you get a newer 360 with the Falcon hardware (google it) then chances of getting a RROD are greatly reduced. The NXE update allowing you to fully install games on the HD and stream them off that also reduces heat (main culprit for the RROD) and noise.

I own both an Xbox360 and a PS3 and the xbox is by far the better system to me. A system's success is judged by the success of its games. Although there are a few pretty decent exclusives on the ps3 (Resistance, LittleBigPlanet, etc.), the Xbox just has many more, and arguably better, choices.

The PS3 has hands-down the more durable hardware and if you're already in the market for a bluray player, like I was, then you can't get a better bluray player than the ps3. However, the software just isn't there for the PS3 like it is for the Xbox. Hopefully that will change at some point because as much as I love bluray, I'd like my 400 bucks to go a little further than that.

this is true. But less than 5 bucks a month for mostly reliable (definitely more reliable than free PS3 service) service isn't usually that much for most people.

If your situation gets to the point that 5 bucks a month becomes a large expense, chances are you probably sold your video game systems for the money quite a while before that...

Well, I meant more along the lines of paying $5/mo for this, then $10/mo for that, etc... It can add up to quite a big expense at the end of the month, especially for some folks with financial troubles.

You can grab an 80GB PS3 for $249.99 direct from Sony if you get a Sony Card.

I got to thinking, the arcade version may be the better version, even if you do give up your HDMI port. No hard drive = no heat. Or am I incorrect into thinking there is no hard drive on the arcade version?

The hard drive's heat output is pretty much a non-issue. The huge problem lies in the CPU's heat output. Just watch this to see what I mean (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oLabckoPC0g).

Dam that music was annoying. Anyhow, if that thing doesn't have a processor fan, I could see where there's a problem.

In terms of casual gaming this is true. However, the Wii lacks next-gen graphics, current-gen internet capabilities, and also lacks proper third-party game support.

When's the last time you played a game with a cumulative rating of 8.5-10 on the Wii that wasn't a first-party developed title (Zelda, Mario, Smash Brothers, etc.)? The Wii may sell the most hardware, but it's seriously lacking in decent games. I have a Wii in addition to my PS3 and Xbox 360 and I've probably touched that system the least out of all three.

Ya - but the PS3 is stable as hell. I actually bought it more for the blu-ray player than for gaming - but I do have some pretty cool games for it. More of a PC gamer myself L4D FTW!

Does the whole ring light up red? Because every so often the bottom right half of the ring will light up red. My solution to this, turn system off and on and its gone, game on~
