the one with the raised "dot" always give a higher level than the other side - the "pitted dot"
the one facing the motor.

seriously....wow never knew that.....so whichever side that faces the motor, you look that side eh.....
it doesnt matter as long as it is in the middle of the two dots

one side it metric and the other side is imperial...lolz.
