Its been happening for a good 2-3 weeks now. Back in Dec. i filled gas tank at Shell w/ 91 V Power and drove off. Gradually coming at a stop light, when fully stopped i heard a ping/tink noise near the front. I thought maybe something in the many compartments was being hit on something when the car comes to a complete stop, but removed everything and the noise still continued...
It only happens when the car comes to a full stop, does not come when accelerating from the start or in between shifting gears.
Before i go to Toyota dealership and they start pointing fingers at my NST SSK (again)....I would like your guys' help...
I opened the hood to see if anything loose might be hitting against something, but everything (visually from the top) i touched was in place and pretty rigid and sturdy..
thanks in advance~

Normally I'd say that's just metal contracting after being extremely hot, but normally that type of noise is only heard after turning the car off.
My only other thought is wondering why you'd run 91 octane on a car that is designed for 87? If you believe it's giving you extra power, it's not!

Sounds like a piece of the exhaust heat shielding might have come loose, next time you have the car up on a lift check all the heat shield screw down points particularly around the exhaust manifold.

Koala - Yea its not that kind of a ping thats heard when the car is shut off. Its directly heard when i come to a full stop or shift down engine rev matching..
No I dont believe its giving me extra power. I use to run 87 on my 2001 Mitsubishi Mirage ES, acceleration felt clunky..switched over to 91 and the acceleration became much smoother. I did the same test runs during the first month of july 2007 when i bought the car, used 87 from 76 Gas Station, felt shitty compared to Shell 91. Just my overall sense of the car. I feel a better acceleration reaching 70 mph from the get go using 91. Been using it for about 1 year and half..
jambo 101 - Thanks, I will address that to Toyota mechanics when i go get the oil change done. The noise is pretty loud to be heard through the car's cabin, not something feather silent~
