S'funny, that - mine went down again - $450/6 months for mine and the wife's cars.
Of course, being an old phart helps a bit there.

Wow, that's really high!!
Did you get many tickets and accidents or something?

Did they give a reason?

They sometimes spring this on in somes states after a credit check, or as in the former post a driving infraction.

sounds like he's under 20... thats how insurance is when you're a kid.... Full coverage for my 626 when I was in highschool was almost 200 a month, even when I didn't have any claims or tickets.

actually i'm 28, but my credit is horrendous(about to file bankruptcy). yet, geico is offering a better deal at 900 per six months for the same level of coverage. switching over soon.

i'm thinking esurance ran a credit check recently.....and shot my insurance up

as for accident, i had one like 7 years ago, i assume it is already "passed"

i'm also in the nyc suburbs, not in the city itself. so it's crazy that i will be paying 3000 per year

My insurance went up $600 (about 36%) when I moved one block a couple months ago, which apparently changed my driving territory. "Outrage" is just the beginning of how I feel towards my insurance company. I'm ready to drop them like a bag of hot crap when my policy is up on March 1.

Several reasons;

Do you have Health Insurance? IF not your medical expenses might be solely borne by your auto insurance, so that will raise your rates. When I first started driving my underwriter wanted to know if I had health insurance for this reason, and yes, it's probably pretty easy to find out that you either do or do not have coverage.

More cars may be getting stolen in your area. Same for auto theft and insurance fraud.

If the Insurance company itself is getting jammed in the stock market, or is like AIG and took up a bunch of those crummy Fannie Mae, Freddy Mac and Mortgage bonds they will be getting hammered about now in their investment portfolio. Guess who gets to pay for it?

If you're having issues with your credit that will probably hurt you too.

Hmm. I am 28 too. I pay i think i pay 280 or 380 i forget which for every 6 months for full coverage on my yaris and my acura. Geico and all those other cheesy insurance companys ended up being more expensive so i stayed with allstate. Plus your rates automatically go down every renewal that you dont get in a accident. By age 22 I had i think 3 or 4 car accidents. But never since then. So they went all the way back down again =)

We pay $170/month for full coverage on my 09 Yaris and my husband's 06 G6, including gap coverage on both vehicles. That's through Progressive. I had always heard bad things about them, but when I totaled my HHR in November I was very impressed with the way they handled my claim. Also, they didn't raise our rate after the wreck, which was a pleasant surprise. No one else could come close to matching that after the accident.

Hmm. If anyone here has AAA, I recommend checking out their insurance rates. I've been through Geico, Progressive, and Traveller's. I've gotten quotes from Allstate, State Farm, and multiple others (the larger names). Best I've ever had is with my current (AAA). I think it also helps that all my tickets/accidents dropped off already since it's been more than 5 years since the last one. Plus being 28 now. That's with full coverage too (max $500 deductible, but I think comp may only be $100). I'd have to check what my liabilities are when I get home. That reminds me, I need to send in my check for renewal... $471 for 6 months, would be less if I didn't drive so damned much....

Being 56 and in New Hampshire, 354.00 per six months, with full coverage with State Farm. Credit so so, just coming out of bankruptcy and been with State Farm for over 35 yrs and been treated very fairly.

I'm a super advocate for Allstate, I'm 19, pay my own insurance, and I'm only paying $109 a month for the Yaris. No driving tickets and obviously little credit, but it's cheap :D

wow - expensive insurance some of you have there. Just to let you know about this lucky lady from the UK who pays 96p (that's pence, not pounds) - about US$3 per year !!! :w00t:

See link here http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/insurance/compare-cheap-car-insurance info down near bottom - at step 4.

short extract for those who cant be bothered clicking:
The Record... 96p for a year’s fully comprehensive cover
In October 2009, civil servant and grandmother Barbara Wakerell smashed the old £14 record for using this car insurance system (see MSE News: 96p car insurance).

Policy Price: For Barbara the cheapest was £120.96 from Swinton Insurance for a fully comprenhensive policy, with protected no claims bonus, and including a courtesy car.

Insurer cashback: The company had its own £70 cashback promo on.

Cashback site: She then got a further £50 via using a cashback site.

All added together that means the total cost of the insurance was just 96p. Her comment, "I'm always looking for a bargain so when I found my car insurance for £120.96 I thought I was doing well. But when I also got £120 cashback I realised I had done really, really well. Can anyone beat that?"

Must admit I am even envious of that premium (own insurance is £240/year)
