View Full Version : Turbo Kit - trade for stock parts!
crankyelbow

I'll need the stock exhaust system, headers o2 sensors etc. We'll have to do the swap in one day, or at least snatch off the parts from my car and bolt on the stock parts, the turbo kit is definitely a 1 day job. The passenger axle has to come out/front bumper off to route the intercooler piping. I believe there is also a bracket that needs to be trimmed up front, no major mods to fit it though.
Looking to go to a TC and turbo that ;).
This is the ZPI kit - emanage/14b/FMIC with a 2.5" stainless exhaust that has a resonator nothing else. I have a tach and boost guage that would be included. The kit has 40k of trouble free miles on it, I have an auto so the turbo didn't have alot of stress on it (for the sake of the tranny, which is still holding perfectly!). People will rag on the ZPI setup of using the emanage in limp mode, but I've got 40k on the *original* tune with 0 issues!!!! If you don't want the emanage thats fine too, knock off $100 :)
Looking for trade + $, highest offer will get it.. I'm not stingy, we can certainly make a deal so long as my car can be back and running stock with no check engine light! This will certainly be the cheapest way for whoever takes advantage of this to get a turbo on their car!!!
I also have a very cool set of old school ANSEN 13's with sumitumo tires. they are 205's, not sure of the height but they are slightly shorter than stock. Slight tightening of the gears which feels *verY* nice with the turbo! Much quicker spool and much better launch, was a great upgrade :) Would be nice to also work a trade or sell these, as I won't have a car to put them on.
I'm just south of chicago, and am more than willing to let someone sit in the passenger side/race their yaris to show them the difference, 7psi of boost on this light car is dramatic and extremely worth the upgrade... especially with a deal like this!!!!
If interested give me a call - 77367774961. I don't have much opportunities to get online so calling would be the best. Sooner the better, closer the better, but if my driving expenses are compensated I'll cruise to Alaska! :)
So who's gonna jump on this one? I'll start the "bidding" at trade of stock parts/install + $450!!!! I really wanna see someone with this who will flog it like its supposed to be flogged... this turbo has been treated too nicely!
I know the wheels won't sell without a pic, which I don't have on here now, but I'll set the price at $200 for the set. These are old school, from an opel astra race car that was parked in somebodies garage and bought up for a project, the guy upgraded to 5 lug and sold me these gems - REAL Ansen rims from way back when (70's?). They poke out a bit as they are a RWD offset, but the handling difference is tremendous with these tires + wider stance... ahhh... but with a lowered car they may rub (no issues stock suspension).
I'd like to see it all go at once to the same person, but I'll happily sit on the rims, the turbo has gotta move :)

my boot camp graduation was just outside Chicago, and my mother and "then' girlfriend, (now wife) made the road trip with no complaints whatsoever. ...and they whine.....about everything. Two days i think it took not three, but i may be wrong. If it was into the third day it wasnt by much

$450 plus trading parts, and no one has jumped on this? I shake my head in disbelief.

I said for $450 and parts I will drive my ass to Chicago and do the swap, or we could tack on gas money and he could come here. This could happen next week. Either way, as long as one car is stripped beforehand and we have shop space, I'd love to be driving a turbo Yaris in February. Its time I had some go with my show. I talked to him on the phone today. We will see what happens. He said he wanted to think about it for a week.

They are 13x5.5, the pic is basically what they are - but the ones I have aren't quite as polished. They were media blasted and I lightly buffed em up to a darker grey matte color (just about matches the meterorite metallic).
The tires are sumitumo htr 200's - excellent summer tires, incredible traction in everything but below 50 degrees :)
I'll get a pic up, and probably start a new thread for them.

give it to chino.
This may be what happens, definitely deserving!
I'm gonna snooze on it till this weekend, make sure this is the direction I wanna head. Took the car out today and gave it a little gas... poops all over a TC lol... its such a step down, with more of an expense all around. But I would prefer the doodads and luxories...
But then there is the idea of a turbo celica, which would be much cheaper and more my style - payment would probably be lower or no more than the yaris after looking/haggling... but that 2.4 in the TC gets me more excited and trading an 07 for an 02 doesn't sound very exiciting at all... :)
Then there is also bypassing all this and putting the $1000 or so needed into swapping to a 5 speed... but this is one heck of a project, possibly with disasterous outcomes. I've very well mapped it out, but without anything really concrete to go off beyond the tech manual, it could be an accident waiting to happen... this turbo swap/sell could also be an opportunity to go this route with a little less worry...
I'll drive on out through amish country to do the swap there for gas + food + beer :)... this would be preferable as there isn't a good place to "swap" here, more of a come pickup the parts and I'll wrastle the stock parts on, but it would make life a hell of alot easier for all parties if you can see the kit come off... I'll have to be prepared to plug that hole in the engine block for the oil feed (reminder to self....)
But I want to be 500% sure of what I'm going to do afterword so I don't kick myself sometime after hitting the turnpike on the way back with a car that once again takes planning to pass on the highway... :)

Is this SpeakerMan selling this Turbo kit?
Surely is.
Terms not changed, I'm sure my "sleeping on it" would coincide with delivery anyway, will be alot of time to think about it en route and o return, so I'd like to have a clear head both ways :)

01-20-2009, 08:51 PM
Mark, I agree that it would be a lot easier on us to have you come here so we can uninstall your kit ourselves. It would also give me time to get everything tapped and freed up. Stock parts, gas, food, beers and a couch within walking distance of the bar is included. Think about it and let me know. Remember... you'd only have to drive a stock Yaris long enough to get to a dealership so you could trade that biotch in for a new car.

I'm more of a built not bought guy, I went ZPI for the turbo solely because it was approx as cost effective given the test fit deal.
The TC's weight is what I don't like, particularly with all the doodads that I won't want to remove to save said weight....
Buy it, nah... drive it...::

I believe the turbo kit aligns with the stock stuff. My exaust needs to be aligned (hangs too low), so you may wanna stick with that... but then the initial tune will be farther off. Just takes a bend before the resonator and re-weld @ the rear axle, I think it may have to be cut to get it off anyway (neither zpi or local shop got the exaust quite right...!). The sound is puuuurfect though, man o man am I gonna miss that!!!!!
I'd def hit a dyno sooner than later + get a wideband (exhaust is tapped for that at least), if that wasn't already the plan :).
Researching this celica idea, always liked em but the ones in my price range are hard to find and 00-02 gt seems to have oil consumption issues... gts is possible but insurance...
Another night to sleep on it :)

In PM's with chino, not so much a feeler I think we may have it worked out :)
The aforementioned deal was resolved, btw... perhaps if this goes as planned confidence can be reinstated. I'd say trying to hide would be significantly silly given the rarity of the ZPI kit.

BUMP
I just talked to Mark and pending the receipt of my tax return this is a go. However, I have no experience owning a turbo car, so please, if someone could answer a couple of questions...
[1] How long will my stock clutch last w/ 180 WHP? Should I plan on buying a clutch very, very soon?
[2] Should I be changing oil at 3,000 miles from now on? I use Royal Purple.
Mark, you have PM.

i dont/ havent ever owned a turbo car...but....on the turbotoyota website..and also(im almost positive) with all the xa/xb kits. It says upgraded clutch "strongly recommended"...which i take as "your problem not ours" aka "we told you so". I view that as covering their eh...rears. I would recommend doing it asap. But thats just IMO.

I believe is a matter of how are you going to drive the car.
Don't think the OE clutch will hold a hard launch @180whp
All my friends with high powered turbo cars change their high end synthetic oils at 3K. But then again they are running really expensive ball bearing turbochargers so it's a logical precaution.
If I were you, the first thing I would do after installing the turbo is taking it straight to tunning shop.
