View Full Version : Who says a Yaris can't beat an STI or WRX or M3...

Here in Utah we don't get to race much durning the winter months. But the kind folks at Miller Motorsports Park do their best to appease our need for speed by holding winter autocross-like events on their world class track. They put up a minimum amount of cones at the entrances of some of the faster corners to keep speeds lower than on a normal open track day, and you star and finish about a quarter mile apart, autocross style with flagger and such.

Anyway, the ol' Yaris didn't do to badly when you look at the cars it was up against.

Here's a video from last year!

Nice! Behold the mighty YARIS!

Yes indeed! I got that tire donut from a claimed 500 hp Mustang that didn't like getting passed during an open track day by a poor little Scrubbing Bubble!

It was nice, Ken Block came out for a little fun, his is the blue STI with the white DC logos in the video.

WOW! Super nice numbers! You bested some "rally cars". hehe

I bet they have excuses up the wazoo for being beat by a Yaris.

what mods are you running?

Cusco Compact Zero-1 Coilovers
TRD Rear Antisway Bar
Toyo RA1 205/50-15
Yoshimura RS-3 Carbon Fiber Hayabusa Slip-on with custom piping.

there was an Odessey running? wow a minivan? or am i mistaken?Yep, stripped, caged, running 275/35-18 race tires! It is a new race project for a guy that usually drives an 600+ HP turboed NSX time attack car.

Dude, years ago we had a guy bring an odyssey out to auto-x. He beat more than 30% of his fellow competitors.

100hp Yaris beats 300+hp STI's, maybe the Yaris will dethrone Subaru at the WRC.
Next time you are at the track and some one has an STI why not put some money on the line as it seems an easy way to make some extra money.

Honestly I have a buddy who autox's his tC and is really good, has minor sponsership with World Racing.Well he and I have been talking and he is excited to see a Yaris on the track.Says they with minor mods would do really well and beat a lot of the cars out for the day.He is taking me for a ride this spring and I am excited to go and see how hard it is before I take the Yaris out,I am not a great driver so I will need to practice a lot.

I'm no expert, but I think track configuration would be a biiig factor... no straight lines = Yaris FTW

Not hating on the yaris, but subaru will no longer be competing in the WRC.
And it's all driver skill. NO STI should ever lose to a yaris.

Depends on driver, setup and course. Yaris seems like a great, nimble car. But, suffers from lack of power and a few other things.

LOL

anyways, yeah it seems that an LSD will do alot of good in this car. i spin the inside tire alot when i was autoxing. i am surprised that the canadian yaris does not come with an LSD stock. That would make this alot easier, just would have to source a canadian gearbox.

so as soon as you say that a car can beat another car, the thread is now illegal?

Let the mods decide. I'm pretty sure they say there was to be no discussion about STREET racing.

Not too sure if anyone wants to respect your made-up rules or interpretation of it.

I think (therefore I'm probably wrong - at least that's what my wife tells me) that if there was a "no" on any racing topics, this whole area of the forum would be shut down. "Tracking, Racing, AutoCross Forum"

So a topic about racing at a legal venue is not allowed discussion is.......lame.

The SCCA is one of the greatest grassroots events that anyone can attend. I was outdriving some more powerful cars in an xB of all vehicles except when we raced at Ft. Knox which made for a nice setup for more powerful cars. I can't wait for this season to see what my yaris can do. It is more driver than car, but certain mods are helpful.

02-19-2009, 11:11 AM
er... LEGAL racing and discussion thereof, is highly encouraged! If you can "beat" someone in a regulated, safe environment, nothing wrong with that!
