I hope this doesn't come across as bragging because it isn't my intention, but here it goes. I have a good job and make pretty good money and the wife has a good job. We could afford the wife a higher end car, but there is just something we loved about the Yaris when we were shopping for a car. It is so simple and efficent. I have always lived by the idea that simple is better. I myself have a base model Tacoma and if it wasn't for needing the truck for home improvement projects I would likely trade it for a LB for myself. I used to be a mustang fanatic in my younger days, always building them faster and living at the track but now basic utiletarian transportation is what interest me and the Yaris is the perfect example of that.

Kudos to you, I'm sure I can speak for many of us in saying I'm happy that you find the Yaris as enjoyable as you say. Congrats on finding a car you love.

I loved my Yaris, but now I have an xB I love the extra room, while still being a tiny car

Yeah, the Xb does have far more room inside, but's it's nearly as fun to drive as my Yaris was...

Well said, Shape:thumbsup:
It's interesting how as people mature, they appreciate the simpler things much more.
I would never trade-up my Y for something that's "better". The car stays with me by personal choice because it's doing exactly what I expect from it

I had a Lexus SC430 hardtop convertible. Sold it bought a Lexus ES330 sold it because I wanted a 3DR liftback Yaris. I added eveything available and the salesman said, "For this price you could have a Corolla!" I replied, " I have a Lexus I don't want a Corolla I want a Yaris!" He didn't say that he thought I was "nuts" but I could read his mind! So to answer your question the only answer thats appropriate is, A YARIS IS LOVE..Because we owners all love them....

Some people take longer.

I took way longer! LOL I went from the guy with the modded to the hilt 5.0 driving like an idiot to the calm 32 year old cruising at the speed limit in my Yaris LOL.

I can relate.
I could have bought whatever (mine is my dedicated work car). I love the simpleness, the comfort, and it's overall vibe. My other car is a Z3 coupe, my wife has a 323CI.
I like the Yaris just as much. I like the way it drives.

It's everything you want in a car in a cheap price. No nonsense doodads that takes manuals and manuals to learn how to use. It's gas efficient, and gets you from point A to point B in style.

I was thinking of buying a pickup, Tacoma or Frontier, but my car died unexpectedly. The Toyota dealership was 1.5 miles away. I call the credit union and arranged for a car loan. The next morning I caught the bus to the dealership and 1.5 hrs later I was driving a Yaris off the lot. I bought the Yaris because the credit union gave immediate approval for $20,000 over the phone. I wanted manual but that car was a stripped down red Yaris. I have nothing against red. My last three vehicles were red.
Now, I love my Yaris. It is unique. It is fuel efficient, fast enough and roomy enough. When gas goes to $5 per gal. I'll be laughing at the big cars.

^^ you know, I never really realized it, but I really DO enjoy driving to and from work in my LB, lol
I love my car too. I admit that I wanted a Mini Cooper S, but it wouldn't make it up my driveway (picture a nice sledding hill). I just wish that Toyota offered more options in my region. At least now they come with ABS and side airbags.

I've wanted a Yaris ever since I first saw one. Just something about the way it looks... I bought a new car in 2006, though, so I didn't expect to get one any time soon. Luckily (?) I wrecked my other car and got to buy something else. The salesmen wanted to sell me a Corolla but they just aren't the same IMO. I love my Yaris and plan to drive it until the wheels fall off!

Yeah, it was kinda 'love at first sight' for me as well!
It's funny, I also own a Jeep Wrangler (talk about cult followings!) and it is the simplicity of my Jeep that made me appreciate it in my Yaris. When I was living in Germany I owned to BMW E30 body style 3-series that I also loved due to their simplicity. Inasmuch as I loved the two VW Passats we've owned, the things that went wrong with them (power windows, locks, etc) are all the things I realized I really didn't need. The Yaris fits that bill perfectly.
The other thing that drew me to the Yaris was its European-image. It is very similar to the Opels and other cars I see in Europe during my living and traveling there. I was just in Germany and the UK last week, and saw tons of them.
I don't think the Yaris will ever become as popular as the Honda Accord or Ford F-150 in the US; but that doesn't mean it's not a great car. Much like the Jeep, it can be easily personalized and despite the fact that I could easily afford a much more expensive vehicle; I am extremely happy with the Yaris and look forward to owning it for many years!
Cheers! M2
As the owner of several VW bugs in the 1960-70s, my 07 Yaris LB reminded me very much of the bug. It is a bit of a cult car, people either love it or hate it. I have always liked small cars, in this case the Yaris is small, affordable, simple (relatively speaking) and reliable. What a combination. Oh and it has a shape that you will not forget.
One of early consumer reports description of the yaris was "the quirky little lift back" and although not meant as a compliment, I took it as one. Most people smile when they see a Yaris ... I still do. 122,000 miles and counting.

when i got the yaris everyone made fun of me. im a gearhead so they were like "wtf why?" and my friend anthony said the best line -
"when the gas pedal gets stuck (making fun of toyota) at least you wont be going too fast" lol
i like it its zippy sporty and simple and smartly designed. the interior has so many little cubbies. i hear what you guys are saying about enjoying the simpler things in life...

Before Yaris, my ride was a Dahon folding bicycle.
I pedaled that little thing 12 miles to the dealership in town, hugging the shoulder all the way because the tractor trailers were truly ferocious that day. I bought the Yaris, folded the poor bicycle into the trunk while the salesman watched in apparent disbelief, and drove out of there feeling like a newly minted penny. I swear, I wanted to shake open a bottle of champagne everytime I looked down at the Toyota logo on that steering wheel.

Snap. I grew up owning more than a few Coopers - I was an addict. Sold off my best Cooper S when we graduated from 2 up to 3 young children (about 1986).
At the dealer the other day when I was looking for my first Yaris there was some family's Yaris 3dr getting serviced and it had 2 child safety seats in the rear - gave me flashbacks.
And the interior/gear shift/dash setups really reminds me of my old Minis. Pity they don't go as hard as my old Coopers though!
But then that was before Airbags and other mod cons. I wouldn't own a small car nowadays without all the airbags and the USB audio system.

Should also say my decision to go Yaris was easier because in my current job (4 years now) the car pool is nearly all late model 4 cylinder small cars. Just not Toyotas for some reason. Mitsubishi. Ford. Kia. Proton. Hyundai. etc. All those cars had disagreements with me; noise, leaks, breakages, plastics, paintwork and just plain ugliness.

This is why I bought this 2007 Yaris, because it still runs perfectly. It made me an instant fan of Yaris' and now gets driven more than my 4 other cars...my wife is trying to commandeer it as we speak!

First off: it's a Toyota!
I like doing more with less, and to haul excess metal (or spare tires, or back seats) up and down the mountain I live on bugs me, and right now the Yaris is as close as I can affordably get to the minimum amount of metal to do the job comfortably. The Toyota IQ looks good to me also.
A few times since I've had my HB, I accidentally had to really romp on it, I mean I didn't plan it or anything, just a oh sh*t moment when flooring it helped avoid a problem. Each time I was surprised by what it can do when you're in the right gear and you really put your foot into it! The rest of the time my eyes are glued to the ScanGauge, in Granny mode.
Last of all, my Yaris, especially lately, makes me look FORWARD to going to the gas station. I like to look around at the others filling up (painfull) and I try REAL HARD to keep from grinning stupidly! Plus it's just fun to drive.
