hydro shield yes or no?

just wondering how many run their CAI/SRI with the fins showing and how many go for the extra protection.

talkin about the mesh baggy for the filter like:

trying to figure out if a little extra peace of mind / filtering is worth $24.95.

Sounds kinda gimmicky to me. I don't think it's worth it; at least not for SRIs... :iono:

this thing might help with mild splashes, but it will fail with puddles. My friend had a CAI and during a big rainstorm he hit a big puddle and his engine got flooded since the CAI sucked up too much water with the hydroshield on. So unless your intake is exposed, I see no point for this. Even for SRI, it's useless since the SRI will never get flooded.

they make devices for cold air intakes that will close off the intake if resistance like water is met. IMO those are a much needed evil if your air filter is in front of your tire and 5" off the ground...

those splash gaurds will help a paper filter from being destroyed with splashes kicked up during daily driving with a lowered car and a CAI...but, if you have a K&N or equivalent aftermarket foam or cotton fiber filter, water wont damage them anyway.

unless you were running a paper air filter element on a CAI, i would say those would be a expensive restriction to the air flow.

AEM has a pretty spiffy bypass valve for their intakes, I'm not sure how hard it would be to adapt to a Yaris intake though:iono:

I think those pre-filters are more for dusty environments, K&N has a pre-filter similar to the "Hydro Shield"

dont waste your money on a hydro sheild....if youre that worried about slashes, just get a k&n filter because the oil will repel a lot of of water

and for those with an air bypass valve like on the TRD, thats really no better than using a shite ebay filter on the end of your intake as itll let more air in

you really only need to worry about hydrolock of you fully submerge the end of the intake in water....and if youre fording rivers with your yaris, maybe you deserve to blow up your engine...

Why waste all that money on an aftermarket intake just to choke it off with a condom.
If you're worried about water, try a K&N drop-in. No fuss, no worries, and you can put the OEM diaper back in the box while you have the K&N out for it's periodic clean/re-oil maintenance.
You can always swiss-cheese the airbox if you're 1.5 feels the need for more flow.

already got the dropin. but also have sitting on my kitchen table an Injen CAI in black. [damn it looks nice.] figured if i'm going to take the bumper off to put it on, i might as well decide on the sock before i take everything apart.

I have it for over one year, didn't feel any different in profermance, it should helps a little...not too much. Maybe a good protection during heavy rain period.

i drove through that crazy storm TO had 3 or 4 years ago (the one that washed away sections of road) in my XRS with an injen cai and an oiled filter....car ran fine!
