Anyone know a place in SoCal who could wrap car doors in REAL carbon fiber? (the exterior)
I got a quote, but $2,500 is crazy..

Are you doing the interior or exterior

Opps I meant exterior wrapping.
They actually had carbon fiber replacement doors for the Yaris at a fraction of the price of wrapping. $1,200. But I would not like to jeopardize my safety for looks.

Yeah not sure, but there must be someplace that will do them........the replaement door ae nice but in an accident they will literally explode as they are jsut wrapped fiberglass.

In terms of side impact CF would probably hold up. After all they do use the stuff in indy cars for safety. I'd check the thickness of them first.

Yeah, so far there's is only one place that I know of and they are extremely expensive. Sure, they may do a great job, but I'm wondering if it could be done somewhat cheaper.
As for the replacement doors, they are out of the question. I don't want to die in a horrific accident.. imagine, I get t-boned.

If you got t bones you'd be dead with stock doors.

True. But in the event of a miracle (or just sheer luck), maybe I'd walk away from it and live life yet another day.

No, they wouldn't. Indy cars don't use CF for safety, they use it for weight savings. It's the tubular frame/cage that protects the driver, not the skin on Indy cars.
I like JR's idea of wrapping the stock doors. Guaranteed OEM fitment too.

Yeah if you look at the Scion tC CF doors they are jsut fiberglass and wrapped in a CF skin.....no structural safty bars......look great but dangerous as can be anywhere but a track, now if you put a full cage in the car to protect occupants then I would say replace them.

There is a couple places in san diego that do some realy nice work with cf roof /pillars/ door/ whatever overlays . There is a couple local 350z with the roofs/pillars overlayed and one 350z with the whole car overlayed in cf and only the front and rear bumpers left factory black . Its gonna cost you , but closer to the price of the cf door replacement price not the 2500 qoute . Just pm me if you're serious about getting this done and i'll get you some phone#'s .

San Diego is quite a drive ):
But carbon fiber wrapping close to the price of replacement doors sounds good!

The newer Indy cars have a protective guard beneath the drivers made of kevlar which is an integrated part of the body. When you watch indy racing as much as me you know these things. I've also discussed this with the guys at Canepe. I totally had a brain fart intersession kicked my ass.

Hmmm..... you want to make your car heavier, so it looks like it's lighter? :iono:

Well, I don't have rear seats anymore... I guess putting weight back on would be compensating for weight lost. PLUS, if anyone remembers hit and run last year.. my driver's door was repaired, but not with new skin. It would be nice to cover up any imperfections that are visible.

I would personally recommend re-skinning the door with a new carbon panel, but of course this would mean using someone who has a mold for the door skin.
I would do a door for around $300.00 each, but I'm not in your area.
