While driving yesterday I suddenly heard a very loud crack followed by about 15 seconds of crackling. Today we found a ~20 cm crack starting under the driver's side wiper. At first I thought that it was a defect considering how few miles are on the car, but later found a small rock impact just under the wiper blade.

Anyhow, has anybody had to have their glass replaced? Does anybody know of the vendor/brand which supplies the original OEM glass? Has anybody used the national chains such as Safelite? If so, which brand of glass did they install? Was it a good match for the original glass? How has the fit and general quality been?

Thanks!

safelite does not use oem glass, they use oee(equivilent) check with all star glass http://allstarglass.net/ they are similar to safelite in that they are a mobile company, but they use oem, are extremely nice and helpful and AAA recommended( i do AAA claims).. if u have a AAA membership card, you can get 15% off!

Theres lots of mobile glass installers that normally charge about 150 installed.

Yup! All Star Glass has replaced the windshield on my Jeep, and they did a great job.

That sucks, especially since you just got your Y. All-Star Glass is the way to go. They replaced my previous Saturn SL2's curved back window after a tree branch fell through it a few years back. And since it was very expensive because of its' shape, AAA covered it after the $500 deductible. Hope you get your new windshield soon

Thanks guy! I'll contact All Star tomorrow, they look promising! We have one in our area. (Near Sac)

Check with your insurance company! I just got a chip and a small crack this past weekend and they paid for SafeLite to come out and fix it. You should be covered under for this...

Cheers! M2

My windshield cracked completely in half after having the car for 3 days. No idea why, I just went outside in the morning and it had a crack all the way across. Took it to an auto glass shop, they replaced it with a windshield from Guardian and I've had no problems with it. Had it on for a year now. Cost $350 though. =(

Is Yaris windshield weak?
I have Yaris for 3 months and it has some stone chips on the windshield.
I had Corolla for 6 years and Prius for 8 years, but they did not have chips on the windshield...

I just think mine had to do with snow sitting on it overnight.

Although, none of my other cars have ever done this.

Not sure if insurance in CA has the same rules, but in FL if you have full coverage a new windshield is free!

Nope, doesn't apply here. It's a $250 deductible. :(

i think FL is one of the only ones thats free like that.. i think it more has to do with the pitch of the windshield.. hmm thats cool max that they sent safelite out to you... in texas we use binswanger.. yea its fun to say too.. lol

Thanks to those who recommended All Star Glass. I called them a few days ago and, told them I wanted OEM glass, and they took care of the appeals process with my insurance company so that I didn't have to do anything. They called yesterday and said that the glass was in and they were ready to install it. The guy just came to my workplace and in about 1/2 hour had the new glass installed -- nice clean installation. I'll definitely keep them in mind for any future glass needs!

BTW... their line item on the invoice for the dealer part (the windshield with moldings and mirror mount) was $802.56... ouch! The whole job was $1019.29!!! Glad I'm not paying all of it!

All glass is free here in SC as well with full coverage. Got to get a chip repaired in the Excursion and the Ram needs a windshield. It has a crack all the way across. Just need to take the time to do it.

Years ago someone broke out passenger side window on husband's Mustang, no problem replaced in a couple of days.

Glad you had a good experience.

ever wondered that if you could get that replaced under warranty ?
I know it could be hard to have it on in the states :(
If it really was a manufacturer's defect, ie, no stone chips that created the crack, then the warranty applies.
