Hey Guys,
Just picked it yesterday. It was from a friend who wasn't had to let it good. I've wanted one of these for years. Ever since I first saw Takumi driving down Mt. Akina (Who hasn't???)
What you see on the pictures is a 1986 SR5 coupe half way to become a GT-S.
The chassis is on excellent condition, and it has a recently swapped bluetop 4A-GE with the T-50 tranny.
The engine was refreshed and tested before going in.
The car came with new Konig wheels, a Momo steering wheel and some bucket seats from an early gen Impreza GT.
I will be working the new project with my younger Bro.
The car will be going the turbo route.... As part of the deal I picked a super rare Trust (Greddy) turbo manifold and the car already has a high capacity fuel pump installed.
The project will likely go slow as the founds are tight... but I will be posting the progress.
The goal. 250rwhp
So what you think?

Id say drop the blue top in the yaris.
Then save up for a 2jz and drop that in the corolla.

Don't think so... I like the levin front BUT lots of things to be done first to add the front end makeover to the list.

Was the 86 always popular?
Sorry by noobness, but I only came to know about 86's from Initial D....

It's one of the more popular cars since the earlier days of drifting. Under-powered by today's standards, but still popular

^^^
But it was not always popular... at least not on this side of the earth.
In Japan is another story but in America it was only known after Initial D.
But think about it... there are good reasons for it's popularity...
Cheap
Rear wheeldrive
Under 2200lbs with full body
Almost 50 / 50 weight distribution
Tons of aftermaket support
Lots of engine swap options well documented
This car is the ultimate beater... Is 23 years old and the chasis is still really tight. Everything works ok.
Is a great car to learn some driving skills...
Back in the day... this car was way ahead of his time!

Very , very good starting point you got there . What I would do to the car is all suspension first . There is such an amazing aftermarket for the ae86 suspension wise. I've seen any and every suspension part to make this car into an killer track car . Now on to your 250 rwhp , not to burst your bubble but its gonna be very expensive to do with that motor . Honestly you need to gank the motor , rebuild it using all upgraded parts to handle boost , turbo , piping , intake , fmic , oil supply/drain for the turbo , exhaust downpipe fabbing , waste gate/ dump (depends of if using internal or exteral Wg?) upgraded injectors , bov , and some kind of fuel controller(minimum apexi afc2) are needed for this project as well as a few random gaskets for the turbo mani to head /turbo to mani, oil gaskets, turbo elbow gaskets , dp gaskets . All these parts add up real quick just what I listed above is at least 5k+ then with more power you'll need to upgrade your clutch/flywheel . Imo , madd suspension modds , don't be scared to buy quality used suspenion parts for the car , and just run the engine in the car As-is with just a underdrive pulley and upgraded intake till it kicks the can , then upgrade .

I'm probably shooting a little high with the 250 hp goal... but we will see..
I'm well aware of all the implications of going the turbo route... but I'm sure I call pull it for much less than the $5K you mentioned...
For suspension I'm looking into Megan coilovers for around $800
4 links and a couple other bars and good to go...
I will probably go by stages... with a first stage on the stock engine with low boost 6-7psi around 150whp
And going for a 4agze (supercharged)block or at least the pistons and rods for 15-18 psi
The greedy manifold I got comes flanged for a TD05 turbine... so I guess I could use a subaru turbo which can be found fairly cheap...
Supra OE Injectors, ebay universal FMIC and DIY piping kit..
Downpipe and exhaust I'll get them done locally.. not that expensive.
Spec stage 3 clutch with oe flywheel...
And for management I've been looking into the Megasquirt DIY
I guess the good part of working on an old car like this one is the great availability of parts and the possibility of exchange them.
Is definitely a lot of work to be done... but if done patiently it can be pulled on a budget and still with quality parts...

pssst. its very easy to put a 1jz in as long as you know how to weld a bit.
1jz = 2.5l 280hp with aftermarket dp you will be at 300-310hp so about 250rwhp

True that!!! But you will completely loose the balance of the car..
Like putting a LS1 on a Miata...
Plus the car doesn't have enough room for the tires that will be required to lunch that beast.
It will be cool tough to see peoples face....

It's so hard to find a clean AE86...!
Look at me... I was looking for a GTS Hatch originally and end up with a SR5 Coupe. :bellyroll:
It's so freaking funny to drive this little car... I barely fit inside but I can't get enough of it...:burnrubber:
I was doing some donuts and e-brake maneuvers in front of my house tonight... I bet the neighbors are quite happy wit my new toy...:bellyroll:

Nice car. It's really hard to find a nice non-rusty car like that over here. A bunch of my friends all have hachis. Even got a few 4AGZE's. One of the 4AC cars got a SR20 swap after about 3 blown motors, lol.
