Well this doesn't bode well, I'd say...
We got buried last night... but I couldn't wait so I swept off the snow went for it. I was able to reach the spot but barely... after i got the connector off and got the SSK onto the armature I could NOT get the factory cotter pin into the post! I tried and moved it around... at one point I tried to remove the ssk so I could look at the post and see if something was wrong with and the thing was stuck on and would not be removed... then I dropped the freakin' pin! Thank God It dropped into the body work and not into the snow or I'd never have found it... I finally after trying and wiggling, it worked! I was thinking 'oh great, hope the other installs go better then this!lol I've yet to drive it but a quick run through the gears seems pretty cool... Can't wait to drive it but in the snow I wont be pushing it much until they clear the streets...

You didn't put it on?? holy shit!:eyebulge: When you shift, I imagine that little part takes a lot of force... It's why it is made out of billet aluminum... If it pops off during a shift, you'll be stuck in gear and have to stop wherever you are until you can fix it... Hopefully not in a bad neighborhood or on the highway...

NST Short shift kit
benefits that brings this change?
err um... I'm not sure what you're asking. If you mean "what does the short shift kit do?", then I would say that a short shift kit shortens the distance between gears on the gear shift, allowing you to change gears quicker with less time engaging the clutch. You can pop it into the next gear faster and get back on the throttle... It also feels better, more like a sports car with less slop while switching gears. So far I like it a lot, and I think I might give it the full NST treatment with bushings and the in-cockpit kit...

Well my NST underdrive pulley (http://www.nonstoptuning.com/pKitToyYaris.htm) arrived yesterday but I was on my way to work and could only look at it. Here's a pic of it next to my psp on my perpetually messy desk. Over all it seems like a quality part, a real solid piece of metal, but something is bothering me... There's a dent in the edge like it was dropped onto a sharp corner or cut somehow. It not a big thing but it feels like the metal around the dent is pressed a tiny bit into the path of the belt(like a mm or less) and might abrade the belt and cause it to wear early. I guess it might be on purpose, but I'm not sure. Any one else have one like this? Also my other gripe is that I thought it was going to be red... The NST website doesn't ask which color you want so I should have guessed it might not come in the color I wanted. Micro Image (http://shop.microimageonline.com/product.sc?categoryId=2&productId=46) not only ships you the color you want but is cheaper! I guess the gray color is ok however, since it's installed near the bottom of the engine and wont be as noticeable to the dealer if you have to take it to them to work on... I'm not sure where to go from here (I'm also wondering how hard the install will be lol) If you guys have the same dent then maybe it was on purpose and I'll install it otherwise I guess I'll have to talk to NST about a replacement...:frown:

Two things...
1) The "dent" you are speaking of is a timing mark and is meant to be there for timing reasons. Should you ever need to rebuild an engine down the road, replacing a timing belt, etc. you will need this point of reference. Your OEM pulley has a very similar mark. On a side note... this questions has been answered a few times in the comprehensive NST thread...
http://www.yarisworld.com/forums/showthread.php?t=4737
2) The NST shopping cart does include a field during the ordering process that asks customers for their color preference. For whatever reason... maybe customers are too excited... maybe they are not paying attention when ordering... or whatever reason, some people overlook this field and do not call us, email us, or message with their color preference after not entering it during the ordering process. As a result, we have to flip a coin.
Please feel free to give us a call should you ever have the tiniest of questions or look for me on AIM, I am available to serve you 8 days a week 30 hours a day.
Feel free to call me should you wish to send your pulley and exchange it for a red one.
Otherwise make sure it is installed properly and enjoy!

I'm pretty sure you cant see it from the top, any ways. Well I finally got around to installing my NST underdrive pulley... I tried to take pictures of all the steps but after the a certain point, taking pictures of the install kinda lost its importance...

You can't hardly see it, but I marked the alternator mount with whiteout to keep track of where the bolt was
http://i654.photobucket.com/albums/uu269/CtrlAltDefeat_album/NST%20Underdrive%20Pulley%20Install/th_PulleyInstall7.jpg (http://s654.photobucket.com/albums/uu269/CtrlAltDefeat_album/NST%20Underdrive%20Pulley%20Install/?action=view¤t=PulleyInstall7.jpg)
After I loosened the bolt the alternator WOULD NOT move, and my ratchet was too thick to get to the bottom bolt! Without panicking I grabbed the rubber mallet and was able to knock it loose...
http://i654.photobucket.com/albums/uu269/CtrlAltDefeat_album/NST%20Underdrive%20Pulley%20Install/th_PulleyInstall8.jpg (http://s654.photobucket.com/albums/uu269/CtrlAltDefeat_album/NST%20Underdrive%20Pulley%20Install/?action=view¤t=PulleyInstall8.jpg)

Comparing the stock pulley to the underdrive pulley
Well... After installing the pulley, I could not get the alternator to rotate back... while trying to smack it back into position i broke the connector off the "camshaft timing oil control valve assembly" :eyebulge:
http://i654.photobucket.com/albums/uu269/CtrlAltDefeat_album/NST%20Underdrive%20Pulley%20Install/th_broken.jpg (http://s654.photobucket.com/albums/uu269/CtrlAltDefeat_album/NST%20Underdrive%20Pulley%20Install/?action=view¤t=broken.jpg)
http://i654.photobucket.com/albums/uu269/CtrlAltDefeat_album/NST%20Underdrive%20Pulley%20Install/th_broken2.jpg (http://s654.photobucket.com/albums/uu269/CtrlAltDefeat_album/NST%20Underdrive%20Pulley%20Install/?action=view¤t=broken2.jpg)
I was finally able to move the alternator back and put everything back together, but with the broken part I forgot about taking pictures.. My main concern was cussing myself out for being so damn careless.
I pressed the two parts back together and hoped that the the connector tabs were what made the connection, and not the two tiny wires that were broken... well it wasn't... When I started it (I know, I know risky...) the check engine light came on, but I hoped it was the camshaft sensor problem reported in the DIY.
I promptly got onto YW and made a thread (http://www.yarisworld.com/forums/showthread.php?t=13428) to ask for help.
The next day I had the CEL checked out at Advanced Auto Parts and it had both the camshaft sensor error and the camshaft timing oil control valve error...
So on the thread (http://www.yarisworld.com/forums/showthread.php?t=13428) I started I got a lot of help to figure out what part number it was and a lot of advice on what to do about it...
I am very thankful for everyone who helped me with this! :respekt: I ordered the valve from the stealer and will try to ignore how my car runs until I install it. I will reserve my review of the underdrive pulley until the engine is back in working order. Surprisingly the car doesn't seem to be running that bad without the valve, but I suspect my HP and/or MPG is worse without it. (it seems to be a part of the VVT-i system to retard or advance the timing)
The springs haven't arrived yet, they are scheduled for tomorrow, but I'll have to wait till the weekend to install them (If I do it at all after this fiasco )

Welp I fixed the valve and now I've had a few days with a properly working car and I really only have one word for the underdrive pulley...
:eyebulge: WOW! :eyebulge:
It's hard to believe one little upgrade could make such a difference... It revs better, accelerates faster, even sounds nicer, I think. One thing I know, the shift points have moved. With the stock pulley, shifting into 2nd happened at 30mph and shifting into 3rd at 60mph. It's changed to 33-34mph and 63-64mph respectively. And getting to those shift points is much quicker. In stock form hitting 85mph (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m8Gbb8WteQg) was like an event. (that's my video btw) Now I find myself pulling it back from 80 all the time... I down shift to pass someone, and suddenly I'm on my way towards 90... To tell the truth, with stock suspension I think it's almost a little scary! I took my coworkers to lunch yesterday, and thought it was kinda funny to watch their heads snap backwards. I think I'm going to take another 0-85 video when I get a chance and post it here...(maybe after my springs are installed) In closing I must say
NST FTW!

So far, no negatives... seems to idle fine, though I have no tools to test to see how the voltage is... Though I might have Autozone test how well my battery is charging to see what that says...
I will also have to check out the AC this summer to see if it seems weak or any thing...
As far as the valve thing, yea that was a real heart stopper when that happened (heart stopper, tool thrower, loud cusser, neighbor waker... )

10% Underdrive is not enough to create a noticeable change in the way the alternator, the a/c, nor any other accessories perform.
But it is enough, in the case of the Yaris, to add a noticeable amount of throttle response and power delivery.

I finally got around to installing my springs... possibly the longest DIY install ever  I'm not even going to tell how long, it's too embarrassing  (let's just say more then 4 hours)

I think I like the steelies... it's almost like a post apocalyptic racer or something... that and I love the whole black everything look. but my wife thinks it's ghetto looking...

hahahahaha.
it's true, everyone down here in Little Rock (the hood) rocks steelies almost as bad as spinner hubs.
your car is looking good though. considering same mods, but will prob only install the ssk myself and buy my friend a beer or two for the rest of the work.

Pros:
I love how it looks with the new springs... It went from economy class to hot hatch look instantly. I can see over the top of it without craning my neck now! The wheel gap is great even with the stock 15s the wheel fills the well. Also the handling is improved, as the car has a lower center of gravity and a stiffer suspension. In the turns the car often feels as if it's on rails, and can be pushed harder through the corner with more confidence.
Cons:
Speed bumps are not your friends! If you do not slowly creep down the other side of a speed bump you will smack the bump hard with your chassis. To tell the truth if you have to deal with speed bumps everyday, I'd recommend springs with less of a drop... (maybe the NF210s) Having to creep over every speed bump seems pretty irritating right now but I'm sure I'll get used to it after a while. One of the big problems with speed bumps is the air deflector (? is that what is is?) mounted in front of the rear wheels. With 2 passengers in the car (one in front and one in back), they scrape on every speed bump, regardless of how slow you go over them.

http://i654.photobucket.com/albums/uu269/CtrlAltDefeat_album/Tanebe%20DF210%20Install/th_DSCF1687.jpg (http://s654.photobucket.com/albums/uu269/CtrlAltDefeat_album/Tanebe%20DF210%20Install/?action=view¤t=DSCF1687.jpg)
It looks like there's only one bolt holding them on so I plan on removing them ASAP to prevent further scraping and to prevent them from getting broke off...
Another possible con is that with the car so low now, loose gravel and sand that is kicked up hits the bottom of the car more often probably destroying the paint behind the wheels, possibly allowing rust to set in earlier
Overall:
Despite the problems mentioned, I am thoroughly enjoying my springs. Like someone mentioned before, the SSK, underdrive pulley and springs have radically changed my LB for the better. The springs made it handle and look better, the pulley has increased the hp,and made the engine rev more freely, and the SSK has made my shifts quicker and tighter feeling. I feel this is a great set of first mods for the first time DIYer who wants to install the mods themselves. The hardest part was getting the nut to break loose from the top of the strut tower in order remove it from the car, and having to remove about 8 bolts to remove the shelf and windshield wiper motor just to get to them was a PITA... If you're a handy person with the right tools (or knows someone who is/does) these should be no problem for you... hope to get some video soon and post it here.

Well... it's been 15 days since I ordered my rear sway bar, and got my "order shipping notice" from MicroImage and still no sign of it... The order shipping notice didn't have a tracking number, so I have no idea what the status of my order is... I've emailed and PMed Garm and finaly got a response the day before yesterday saying he'd check when he got into the office, but I've still gotten no info yet. When I bought my springs from them, they got here in about a week. Any one else have this experience?

Wow your car is coming along huh. Great mods you have there. I hope to get mine underway soon as its starting to warm up. I also couldn't get that pin on the ssk so I left it off. It's so snug and goes so deep in that it definitely feels fine. Almost 10k km later and it still holds up. I still have the pin and will probably take another stab at it when I take the battery out for more room.
Got rims on your list or you leaving that for last?

rims are on the list, but bang for the buck makes them more of a cosmetic thing, which makes them kinda low priority for me. I want 15s or 16s that are as light or lighter then the stock stealies (which are only 15lbs each) Black Konig Feathers are around $100 and $130 for the 15s and 16s respectively. so that's like $400 to $520 just for the rims, before the tires... think I gotta get a better job before that...
i bought the exact springs you have(and a matching tanabe front strut tower). your experience is one of the reasons i have been looking for a professional shop to do the work! i'm not as handy as i thought i was(it took me all afternoon just to change the oil myself(i couldn't get that damn filter off!). i too ended up taking the skin off one hand just doing that! also, i don't have all the tools necessary for install(what's that special wrench you say i'll need for the top strut bolt?). i'll be running the 'ghetto' look too once i get the drop accomplished - can't afford wheels/tires right now(especially since the wife keeps saying 'there's still lots of tread on the ones you already have!'). your car looks great and you've picked some very good mods to do first! once i get the springs and strut bar on maybe we can do an indy-meet(i'm out by the airport)? i know there's a couple others on the forum in the general area too!

Hey it's good to meet a fellow hoosier yaris fan! I learned my lesson when it comes to working on the front shocks/springs you have to take off the tray with the windshield wipers above the engine to get to the nuts. it's still a total bitch to get them loose (might be easier on an older car... :iono:) takes a lot of liquid wrench lube to get going... It sounds like you're not too far from me, If you need help doing it, I might be able to help you out (I think I still have all the tools). So much more satisfying and cheaper to do it yourself. beyond that, an indy meet would be awesome...:w00t:
