215/45/17's on stock suspension should work okay, but you may get a little rub up front lock to lock. Problem is, they'll poke out up front on ET40 and won't look like a proper fitment. I'd stick with OEM size 205/45/17.

You indicated an offset of +40mm.

the higher the offset the less chance of rubbing. +43mm is the minimum offset to run in these cars to prevent rubbing lock-to-lock, over bumps, or on lowered suspension. I'm on a quest the find the lightest wheels that are +43mm or higher in 16x7.

the higher the offset, the more chance of rubbing "inboard" don't go overboard with your search for "high" offset wheels.
and in the grand scheme of things, does 3mm really make THAT much difference?

I have 17x7" with an offset of +40, and 205/40/17 tires. I'm lowered on S.Tech springs, and get minimal rub on freeway dips. I don't get lock-to-lock rub tho, which is strange, but I'm not complaining.

OEM offset is +51. OEM tyre size is 195/50/16.
With 205/50/16 rubber, you can generally run +42 safely with no up-front poke and no rubbing.
With 195/50/16, you're generally safe with +38.
To answer Tamago's question: Yes, a couple of mm's makes a significant difference on these cars.

OEM 17" tyres: 205/45/17 = 24.3"
215/45/17 = 24.6" (At just 1.6% taller than OEM fitment, this is well within the recommended 3% tolerance).

I'd go by what the base has, as I sincerely doubt they change the ECU when you upgrade to the larger rim package. They're likely using an over-inflated size to begin with...

You are correct, but all of which you have posted is really dependant on the wheel width, which you have not listed.
Also, OEM 16's don't exist, 15's or 17's only. What is the width of the +51 offset OEM wheel? I'm guessing 5.5 or 6 inches for the 15's and 6.5 for the 17's???

16x6, ET51, 195/50/16
17x6.5, ET51, 205/45/17

Is 17X7, +42, 205/45 will give any problems with stock suspension?

Very good fitment with little to no chance of rubbing on stock suspension.

Have a set of Enkei PK6 rims from a friends xB. I was using them to test fit on my sedan. He has 215/45/17 tires and they didn't rub on my Yaris. The rims are 40 offset. Didn't get to drive too far, but I didn't hear any rubbing and even checked my inner fender liner and saw no damage.
