I have the standard carpet factory floor mats for my 09 automatic sedan. I noticed that the mat does not extend high enough to protect the area where your left foot usually rests while driving. I'm assuming that this area will begin to wear out. In my Honda CRV, this area is hard plactic so there is no wear on the carpet.
Does this area wear out? How can I protect it. Maybe changing to all season floor mats, but will these cover the area in question.

It would be nice to have a plastic/rubber foot rest in exactly that position. A few members have actually made just that. Hopefully, they will chime in soon to help you out. I don't think any mats will cover that area.

some people have purchased the el cheapo 10 dollar rubber mats and then cut them to fit correctly in that area. Some have velcro'd that piece they cut and some have glued it. There used to be a DIY I believe in regards to a solution however I am not sure if was lost in the hack

I would like to know how they covered that section. I was thinking about a piece of plastic carpet protector but dont know how I would secure it in place?

Perfect.
Where did you get the aluminum? Your floor mat looks brand new. How do you keep it so clean?
Great job. Thanks for posting !!

I have the aluminum foot pedals from kargoboy (YarisUniverse). They look and work great. Comes with the brake, gas and dead pedal.
Sorry, the inside of mine is not so clean.
Here's a link to the site.

I grabbed a cheap-o rubber may, cut a template from cardboard, and sewed velcro to the back. Works great!
Just a warning to a fellow Texas, I tried sticky velcro and the glue melted on a warm day in October, so sewing it or finding an adhesive that does't melt is necessary!
By the way, I'm in SA, where are you?
Cheers! M2

 Looks Great, how do you have the Dead Pedal Mounted to the carpet? I believe there is styrofoam underneath the carpet.

I truthfully do not know what's under the carpet. The dead pedal came with a couple of small screws. I just screwed it down. No problems so far.
I especially like it because the dead pedal says "yaris" on it. Most everyone assumes they came with the car.
