Proper offset?

Hey guys, i am looking at 17's for my yaris hatch, YR, The rims i am looking at are a 4x100 with a 42 offset, basically want to know if this is the correct offset for the car...

Those 3 styles are nice. I'm partial to the mesh and multispoke designs. Hmmm... I guess the mesh win out for me.

Yes. 17x7, ET42, 4on100 will do just fine. Run 205/45/17 on stock suspension or with a mild drop.

on stock suspension or with a little bit of camber, you can easily run a +35 offset.. it'll give you a very nice flush look. 205 tire MAX though.

although if you lower the car with the +35mm you run the risk of rubbing.

that is not true in the slightest, we can run pretty low offsets on Scions with out rubbing
I run 17x7 +18 front and +5 rear.... with 205/40R17.... I am lowered 3 inches, no rubbing problems.

I run a 15x7 +35mm on my YARIS and it rubbed when lowered until we put coilovers on. I have a feeling that's a little more applicable then your scion when regarding the OP's setup.

Scions + Low offsets = OK (I ran a +25 in the rear w/o problems on my xB)

Yaris + Low offsets = Rub.

I rubbed with a 15x6.5, +38, and 205/50/15s
I rubbed badly with a 16x7, +37, and 205/50/16s

Heck, I even rub a tad bit with +40 and 195/55/15. Granted, my front end is pretty low, but not that low.

who was commenting about the OP. come on, I know you're smart enough to realize what's happening here.

Main reason I replied to Tamago is b/c HE KNOWS the +35mm will rub when lowered (he was there when we rubbed the first time with our +35mm).

he also knows that a +23mm 15x7 doesn't rub on stock height but pokes a good amount on a YARIS (they were his wheels we used to test).

I wasn't trying to say he's wrong, b/c he isn't. He simply left out a small portion. :)

I'll have to say the Yaris is definitely the fussiest car I've owned with regards to offsets and lowering.

To avoid rubbing problems with 205's, go with ET42 or higher.

Of course, on stock suspension you can run lower offsets... but the front set-up will poke and look like shit.

Like 39 says, this is a very fussy car for proper fitment. But, if you want the one-size fits-all American look, then go for it.

went to the local showroom here in adelaide and loved the look of the black rims, non of the other black rims they had i thought looked good, if you can suggest other rims i am more than happy to look at them as i am always changing my mind :help:

i recommend Team Dynamics (the racing line, not the "street line") an excellent UK-made wheel and comes in decent offerings for width and offset. simple designs, strong, and relatively lightweight

Team Dynamics is way to expensive, plus they don't come to australia unless you import them yourself, hence very expensive!
