Just read an article in the local paper about this competing for our dollars
I really liked it when I first saw the concept car, but since then it has been watered down (3rd picture).
And since it isn't Toyota, I will say no more. lol. What do you guys think?

They changed the name of it this was intially called the Beat. It has 1.3 liter turboed motor.

The concept was better

Not much information as of yet. Only read that it will likely be a 1.4 liter engine which
will get an average of 40mpg. Originally, the Chevy Beat in concept form,
was a turbocharged 4 cylinder. So sad...

The beat is the car to look for then not the spark. they look almost indentical kind of like the old accords and civics did.

Cavetipse or whatever your name is. Garm gets 30 with his, a smaller engine will yield more which it what wi be seen in the beat. 35-40 mpg will be attainable. Driving habit have the most effet anyways.

Looks pretty cool. Is it Korean like the Aveo?

The concept looks like a total knock-off of the '09 Y, but I still like it alot. The production version killed my interest

GM uses their Daewoo brand studios and plants to design and produce their subcompact cars. That doesn't make it Korean but i does make it likely built in Korea.

If they would have left the atrium level where it was and the belt line of the door high, it would look really nice

The car is going to happen. GM has no choice, but to build fuel efficient cars. Their stable is full of gas guzzlers.

The Spark has attention grabbing looks. That's what they want.

Concept looks good... The third picture looks like a pontiac. Ditch the roof rails and put the spoiler back on, then tone down the giant chevy bowtie, or better yet ditch the bowtie altogether. Only then will it look acceptable.

Chevy spark is already in production, and has been available for a couple years now

I love the looks of the Beat/Sparks. However, GM has gone back and fourth about whether it's coming to the States or not. Last I heard, they still weren't bringing it over.

And I agree: GM needs a competitive small car. However, GM has never been a leader on the small car front. Ford is bringing over the Fiesta which is supposed to be a great little vehicle. Obviously Toyota, Nissan, Honda, Hyundai, and Kia already have their hats in the ring. Chrysler is apparently partnering with Fiat to bring over the Fiat 500, so that leaves GM.

If they do bring over the Spark/Beat/whatever, you can almost guarantee it'll be made in Korea, FWIW.

Oh, and here is a pic we got from the Detroit Auto Show

Some of my friends have said that the Yaris is the "luxury car of the future". Starting to think that they're right. Yaris dwarfs this car - it's only 840 kilos versus the Yaris (I think, 1,100 kilos).

his little bugger has possibilities, but let's hope that GM isn't a day late and dollar short as they usually go.

Yaris = 2230 lbs/2.2 = 1013kg... Spark is less than 1850 lbs; wow that's light.

And good god GM needs a new symbol, the bowtie is hideous... Why not just a chrome "GM", like the Xb, TC, Xa, XD, etc...

is it a 2 or 4 seater?

looks to be a 4 seater as I think I see headrests in the back but they are super high cutting the rear view space

I sincerely doubt that wide rear offset will make it to production...

Your missing the point; it doesn't matter who builds it, the fact is all GM models have several giant gold bowties on them and it looks horrible. They need a new symbol...

The Bowtie is a CHEVY logo not a GM logo. All GM's do not have a CHEVY bowtie. The only common logo for all GM vehicles is the small Mark of Excellence behind the front wheel well.

a Toyota forum is not the place to talk about other automakers and rust, just ask the Tacoma owners

ive had an aveo for 3 yrs now and have had less warranty trips than the yaris...

we'll see what it is when i comes out...

but i do find the new chevy front ends a bit distracting on everything but the new malibu (which looks great)

I like the concept a bit better. Especially seeing it in person last year at the NYIAS.

They did the same thing as Nissan did with the Versa Concept (aka Sport Coupe). The added extra doors and made the headlights larger. Looks like a bug now lol.

I'm assuming that this is going to replace the Aveo then unless they're going to try to sell both small cars. I mean it could work selling both as long as they market it to the right crowd. The Spark was supposed to be aimed towards a younger crowd from what I remember. If they did that then kept the toned down lookswise Aveo for the older, they could attempt double time, but how are the sales on the Aveo doing these days and with their new look?

Oh and the turbo would have been a better selling point for the younger crowd too.

The Spark is supposed to be in a slot below the Aveo. Like a Yaris/IQ sort of pairing. I'd imagine that if the Spark is successful any future Aveo will look very similarly to it just a little larger.

I like the 2nd picture the best. the 3rd picture kinda looks like a chevy malibu that was smashed in the face. it also has some relation to the pontiac vibe to. imo. it looks ok at best

what, a rust spot?

I seriously LOLed at that.

What they did with the shape of the windows and the front fascia in the production version ruined it for me. I really liked the look of the concept, but of course Chevy had to go switching things up.

It's a Chevy Matiz (Daewoo). Note the bowtie on the nose. It's pretty sharp...don't know if we'll see it at all let alone in 2010/11. I like the look a lot.

GM just announced that they will begin selling the Spark in the United States this coming year.

Hmm, not sure how many will choose it over the Sonic, but who knows.
