hello all. last night i drilled about 8 1/2" holes strategically placed in the bottom of my airbox, and discarded my tuner tube, and currently have a kn drop in. i like it. but as is expected, small positive improvements lead me to want the real thing.

i would love a TRD CAI, but am not willing to pay $$ for new...
the simota appears to be a very excellent deal from kargoboy right now (if anyones hasn't seen the sale yet, look http://www.yarisworld.com/forums/showthread.php?t=13354 )

but i am a fan of kn filters, and wonder if anyone is familiar with the build quality of the SRI? kn claims 4.5hp gain, and backs up with a dyno...
http://www.knfilters.com/search/product.aspx?Prod=69-8612TFK

that gain seems pretty fantastic, more than i've seen from other products, yet after my hours of research (constantly protested by my girlfriend... i should be doing chores instead of educating myself... GOSH) i find very little information about the kn SRI on here...

the price is a bit high at 300+, but i am an employee for a kn distributor (napa) and pay close to cost... id expect ~200

not to throw another line into the pond, but we also carry a shiny modular system that seems pretty well regarded... please feel free to reflect on these when you kindly respond...

sum it up: simota, KN, or build a fancy one.
simota-price is right. support vendor. others have tried it.
kn- build quality?! dyno backed. cost comes out of my paycheck... GF won't know.
build one- shiny. i call it my own. name it. put a "jon made this" sticker on it.
probably least expensive.

thank you for all your feedback

K&N expensive?

I payed for my K&N 57i CAI € 99 on E-bay. Thats about $ 126.

This is the one for the 1.8 engine. The 1.5 stock air box is the same, as far as I now, so I think this one you can mounting on your car and is much cheaper. (K&N number is 57-0666) This one use the stock place for the air sensor.

Jon - you just missed the TRD CAI that thewifesyaris had listed in the For Sale sub-forum. Sold on Jan 29th after being up for what feels like close to forever.

i saw it. offered 150 before it was posted for 150. someone else snagged it. good deal on a nice intake. the person that did get it offered it to me if they weren't happy with it, but who wouldn't be happy with a trd cai?! :)

Last night I was going to start a thread about the K&N 57i, but you just answered my question: are the 1.8 and 1.5 airboxes the same? K&N's main headquarters are 5 miles away from my house so I might have to go down there an get a little more info.

There's also the AFE intake for which one can buy 2nd hand at the moment for $125.00 then just put a k&n filter on it if you prefer.
just another thought for you:thumbsup:

Strange because the replacement filter from K&N for the 1.8 is the same like the 1.5 (33-2360)

with your K&N57i you used the factory maf housing this does not seperate on the 1.5 plus your maf is attached different.

yes of course its different , it says so on the K&N website
log on and see
the 1.8 L airbox is different plus , the MAF sensor in the 1.5 is mounted onto the airbox itself not on the tube

but that brings us to my Question .... could the K&N SRI be installed on my 1.3 L
( 2NZ-FE ) ?
i think they have the same engine bay , these are specs from my local dealership:

Hi,

It should works like plug n play or bolt-on. I installed a AFE CAI intake for my Yaris 1.3l(2nz-fe) GCC version here in KSA without any hazzles or problem.

Good luck!

Depends on how you drive it in both case's
slight gain in HP which gives better fuel economy,
and it sounds bloody great ,when you boot it
ops there goes fuel economy

ok .... thats gr8 but u still didnt get my question , i meant that on a 1.5 1NZ-Fe the dyno says 4.6 HP

but how about a 1.3 2NZ-FE ? how much power would it yield
and would it make a big difference between the panel KNN and the SRI in the 1.3 ?

is the Short ram intake always loud through out the whole RPM range or just at high revving?

I normally cruise at 3000 RPM and don't need any distractions while im asleep on the highway !

Sorry i do not know , i would assume about the same as the 1.5 1nzfe
as for comparing it to anything else , i have only run my yaris on stock , until
i installed the AFE system , and i love it.

Does living in a hot country make SRIs useless because of heat soak and the diff between temp inside and outside is close ? ( egypt in summer = 45 C* )

I would recommend in your case ^ that you get a CAI

but being in a hot country , it would be pointless to bring in hot air from outside as the difference between in and out would be small ?

I have the same K&N also and love it, I could have found it a little cheaper on ebay, but I wanted a valid warranty so I got it at here. K&N 69-8612TFK (http://airintakeandfilter.com/product.php?productid=2309?od), or you can try one of the vendors on the forum here, you can usually find a good deal that way as well. This was very easy to install and I love it.
