I'm just wondering how the performance of a manual Yaris is? Cause I'm actually owning a 2k2 automatic Echo and it's a real pain in the ass... it's one of the less powerfull car I ever drive. Hopefully, it's fuel economic... My Ecotec's Cavalier is a real race car compared to the Echo. I race a manual Mazda3 GT (2.3L) last week and I smoked him easily with my Ecotec's 2.2L Cavalier... while my Cavalier only take 0.8L/100 KM more than my Echo in any driving condition.

If I even change the Echo for a Yaris, I may consider to get it manual... but what is the performance I can expect from a manual Yaris, is it a big difference over my automatic Echo?

I have measured my 1.3lt Yaris with manual 5speed gearbox and it needs 10.5 secs to reach 100km/h.

Nice but there's no 1.3L in north america... but I'm sure the 1.5L can't do worse.

I have a manual. And it has alot of zing to it. i usually pass every car around me and I'm not even trying to. I'm actually having a hard time with most cars getting in my way. They seem to be bogged down or something compared to my yaris liftback. MIght be the less wieght the yaris liftback has.

I own a 5D Yaris Hatch stick.

I love the drive. It dont feel really underpowered at all. Real peppy. Eff'n love it.

Take one for a spin. You'll SERIOUSLY notice a WORLD of a difference from your 02 Echo auto!

Yea the yaris should be the same as the echo almost.

I would have to say that the yaris is underpowered, but its supposed to be. If you want great mileage you have to give up power. I do regret not getting a civic tho, and i know i'm gonna get like 10 posts just for saying that :)

My Yaris performs far better than my old Chevy Prizm (Auto) with an 1.8l engine and I dare to say that better than my older Ford Contour (5spd) with a 2l engine. It just goes whenever I want it to go at the speed it needs, and it has more power left if I want/need to use it. It's no racer by any means but it's not meant to be either.

I wish my Yaris was slower and more fuel efficient than it is. My Geo Metro had 52 hp and I thought it was plenty.
I do have a motorcycle though, so if I want to accelerate quickly I'll ride that.

Plenty of power for normal driving, but...........
Don't try passing uphill if you are already going 60 MPH. There is not much power left. This car zips untill taxed by long uphill grades. Gotta shift to 4th to keep the speed up. As long as you realize the limitations it is great. Just got back from driving the N. Cascade loop. Great drive 550 miles total. 41 mpg.

The problem is when its taxed....its choking for more air..i put in an Afe cold air intake in mine and now it flies up a hill in 5th gear now...a cheaper alternative is putting in a high-flow air filter...<they increase gas milage as well...and have lifetime warranties...and are cheaper in the long run..>.... also using 91 octane gas... < .as higher retards the timing... seems to be the magic octane # > ..as well as putting fuel system cleaners in it on a regular basis...its fast now and gets close to 50 mpg.

^I've had that problem too on certain uphills. I've always had to gun it up to 70 MPH in 4th before shifting to final.

Otherwise it's been pretty zippy on level ground, especially around traffic

The Yaris is slow.

Not so much around corners

I always have a blast in mine... Blew a MT 1999 Cavalier (not sure what engine) away when I raced it. Mild mods make the 1.5L Yaris really fun to drive. Springs, underdrive pulley, rear sway bar, and a short shift kit has truly transformed mine. It already sticks to curves with these few mods, when I get new wheels, it will just fly through the curves. Being so light, the manual Yaris accelerates well beyond it's price bracket. On the highway I find myself using any excuse to downshift and blast through traffic. It's really peppy and I would race any lightly modded Cavalier and bet I would win.

I don't know if the OP still reads this but I'm sure more MT will have a quicker throttle respond then a AT car. Therefore it feels faster but I won't go out of my way saying that the Yaris is "fast", I would say the Yaris is quick due to the light weight.

Short run it should get to destination "B" quicker then most cars but in the longer run most stock Yaris won't be leading the straight line pack :P

The Yaris is powered sufficiently to do what it was designed to do and it does it better than any other car in it's class. If by any chance you want it to scream add a Blitz.

If I recall correctly CtrlaltDefeat got a speeding ticket on the way to the Dayton meet in his Peppy Yaris. Those mild mods will get you in trouble every time. LOL

yea, well you don't need mods to cruise with traffic 66 in a 55 on the highway

why?
