Damn that sucks. Always thought tinting the front windows was legal, but not if it's the windshield. Change in law again?

^Like I said: Everything's legal until you get caught.
Then it just depends on the cop. If he's cool, he'll just give you a warning. If he's a douche, he'll write a ticket. If the he's the biggest asshole alive, he'll give you a ticket, search you, and your car.
Looks like ID got a ticket for his tints, not the missing plate.

I'm pretty sure in CA you can't have any tint on the front windows.
If you know any CHP just get them to sign off on it, otherwise just pay the $150 ticket.

This is correct.
However, you can only "just pay the ticket" if he/she marked it as "non-correctable". If it is correctable, you must correct it and show proof of the correction to get it signed off.
Technically the law is that you have to have a front license plate AND it has to be centered. As noted, there is clearly room for law enforcement to be tough or lenient as they wish about enforcing the details.

I got 2 fix-it tickets, one for the tint, and another for no front plate.

I thought you couldn't have the front two windows darker than 35%. Atleast that's what it was when I got my rear windows done.

ok. Just found this on the CHP website:
Can I put after-market tinting on the windows of my vehicle?
The main requirements for legal window tinting in California are:
The windshield and front driver's side and passenger's side windows cannot receive any aftermarket tinting.
If the rear window of a vehicle is tinted, the vehicle must have outside rearview mirrors on both sides.
The law prohibits any person from driving any motor vehicle with any object or material placed, displayed, installed, affixed, or applied upon the windshield or side or rear windows, with certain limited exceptions.
However, legislation signed into law effective January 1, 1999, exempts from the above prohibition specified clear, colorless, and transparent material that is installed, affixed, or applied to the front driver and passenger side windows for the specific purpose of reducing ultraviolet rays. If, as, or when this material becomes torn, bubbled or otherwise worn, it must be removed or replaced.

I'm 99% sure the law is you can have as dark as you want on the back 3 windows, but nothing on the front 3(I think you can have a 4" strip at the top of the windshield)
With that said I've been driving the yaris for 2 years with the front 2 windows tinted one step under limo. Only 1 ticket for it so far, and that was with a speeding ticket. Never been pulled over just for the tint.

It's probably just one of those laws that they don't enfore because everyone does it.

Your car's interior can be 60% cooler during those hot summer days with proper tinting.
Harmful UV rays from the sun can cause skin cancer. Tinting your car can block 99% of these damaging rays.
In an auto accident, tinting can help shattered glass hold together, protecting the occupants of the car.
Tinting reduces dangerous glare from the sun, snow, and other headlights, helping you drive safely.
Tinting protects your privacy and contents within a car. What a burglar can't see, he won't steal.
Harmful UV rays and heat cause car upholstery to crack and fade. Car tint is sunscreen for your car.

Here's mine last summer..I parked close to a bus station (because I was late for work) but here (I'm from Quebec, Longueuil City) we cannot parked more than 4 hours on a streets without moving the car...but I took a chance. Only 30 sec. later, 2 cops stopped to do "speed gun" lool!!!! Hopefully, I didn't had a ticket
