I had my 6-CD Toyota radio done in super white LED. I also did my center console controls, gear shifter, door lock in super white LED to match. Nice uniform color for my dash area, to match the stock super white speedometer. Looks fantastic, and no more GREEN!
There is a DIY for the radio, here:

I could never understand why they used green. I mean it looks so cheap. Maybe cause it was cheaper than white. The led store had a clearance on ugly green and toyota decided to take it off thier hands for a bulk sale or something.

I remember doing this to mine, and posting the results, before we lost the site, all I have left to do is the AC knobs. My GF mentioned that the new 09 Yarises she saw had a different color light inside, she said it was grayish, now the puke green we 07's got. Can anyone confirm this?, and post pics when done.

For those attempting this mod, I highly recommend one of these:
http://www.mcmelectronics.com/content/productimages/s4/21-8230.jpg
It is about the cheapest SMT soldering/desoldering tweezer iron out there ($31). I have a $900 hot air system for reworking SMT boards, but for quick jobs on two lead parts (like these LEDs), I reach for my Tenma iron instead.

>183 C (melting point of solder), but <220 C (typical max package body temp for SMT devices).

After running my car last night noticed, and this is just my opinion, if you gonna change the radio your gonna want to chance the center cluster and A/C Controls too, the leds are a lot brighter the the the OEM and i (for the first time since i got the car) had to lower the dimer, the speedo and tach were very visible but the A/C control lights where almost off
I have some burnt lights on mine, but I have no idea which leds I need. How did you figure out which ones you need?

Looks good. You need to do your heater control knobs now in blue. Those are simple to replace.

They are trying to keep the cost down. If they cheeped out on led’s and not something else were good to go.
I have no idea what color the 09’s have. I know it’s not the green.

Just did mine last night, looks awesome, wayy better than stock, 4 out of the 100 I bought were off-color(bad batch?) but I only noticed to check after I was done and 2 of them were on the radio, lol, Ill just have to re-do those two.
If anyone wants me to do theirs, the LED's are dirt cheap, let me know via PM.

My '09 3dr has amber LED's. They don't look too bad, but I think I would like blue or blue/white better. I just don't want to void my warranty so soon

03-23-2009, 09:26 PM
^all you would void is any warranty on the radio. totally worth it.
FYI these LEDs are very small lol
below is a picture of my pinky finger beside the row of LEDs that I was half finished with.

Oh yeah, I know about how small this stuff is. The company I work for repairs aircraft electronics and other components. We have all the SMD equipment, but I so far don't have the courage to break the car that far open yet. LOL!

If I get ambitious enough to do it, I would definately want to do the all the dash lighting. Maybe in a couple of years. The amber color isn't bad, but not the height of fashion either.
