Nice pics! BTW, Toyota Canada should have kept the Speedway Blue from the previous Echo HB. I thought that colour was really neat.

I have the same colour but its called Dynamic Blue (Mica Metallic) in Aus great colour and i also have a body kit from toyota which is only on the yrx (top of the line) models also 15inch 5 spoke alloys standard with yrx. ill try to attach photos

Is that (the front spoiler) a TRD option I saw on one of the other threads????? The one I saw could be ordered in any factory colour. It would be the finishing touch for my conservative RS ......... well maybe 18" wheels too.

why?
04-20-2006, 10:21 PM
It is the Australian YRX body kit lip. You might be able to order it, I think around here somewhere is an Australian Toyota place that'll ship to NA.

DVS YARIS
04-20-2006, 10:51 PM
yeah there are to many different options available in to many countries it gets a bit confusing. im sure you could get one shipped over to Georgian Triangle Ont. but the cost might be not worth it i paid $1000 aus for the bodykit but i had to due to 06 yrx's in aus now have that included in the price but i dont mind gives it a sporty look so im happy.
cheers curtis

Nice pics, especially the one's with the Calgary skyline in the background. The car looks great in "Blazin' Blue". You might want to consider the lowering springs for your baby. They improve the looks, handling, but are not so radical as to cause ground clearance problems. There is a pic of my (Copper-Orange) car from the side earlier in this thread, so you can see the difference.
BTW ......... I'm surprised you didn't get RED ............... "GO Flames GO!!!!!"

Your car looks great. I'm jealous.

I wish I could've gotten the 15" alloys on my car. :frown: Unfortunately, my area doesn't offer them as part of any package. Anybody know what the dealer would charge for the 15" alloys by themselves?

I'm going to see if my dealer will do a swap for my steelies plus a little dough.

I would get aftermarket alloys anyway. They'll be cheaper and lighter. I was going to grab some Rota Slipstream 15x6.5's this month, but my wife decided she wanted another tattoo as a graduation present...

Goose, here are some prices for you from the Canadian Toyota "Accessory Parts List". All prices are Canadian dollars.
14" Alloy Wheels - $740
15" Alloy Wheels - $740 (3 designs offered)
16" Alloy Wheels - $940
Carbon Fibre Dash Kit - $310
Leather Seats - $1528
Lowering Springs - $350 ($514 installed)
Performance Exhaust - $680 ($704 installed)
Car Tent??????? - $220
You might want to consider keeping your "Steelies" for some snows. I think HP winter tires are a real asset here in Ontario, probably be the same for you. ****** Unless perhaps you live and only drive in the city.

Idjiit
04-22-2006, 01:00 PM
I totally want the car tent. If you haven't seen it, it's a tent that connects the hatch of the Yaris to a 2-3 person tent. Pretty cool.

Goose
04-23-2006, 10:33 AM
Thanks for the accessory information, ricko. You're right about keeping the steel wheels for snow tires. The winters can get pretty mean where I am (non-existent rural snow removal); a light car like the Yaris would benefit from a dedicated winter setup. It's amazing how much dedicated snow tires can improve traction over so-called "all season" tires.

I would get aftermarket alloys anyway. They'll be cheaper and lighter.

Not to mention if you hit a all-mighty pothole that you'll buckle them easily. If you can buckle a Toyota rim, then it'd have to be as deep as the Yaris.

Anyone pick up the all-weather mats? I was thinking about it.. although... isn't it kinda expensive for mats?

Not to mention if you hit a all-mighty pothole that you'll buckle them easily. If you can buckle a Toyota rim, then it'd have to be as deep as the Yaris.

Uh, what? Why does light mean weak in your mind? Plus, you'd have to hit a pretty major pothole to damage a 15" wheel, regardless of weight.

Goose
04-24-2006, 04:27 PM
SmellyTofu does have a point regarding OEM alloys vs aftermarket. While there are very nice quality aftermarket alloys available, there are also many that are really poor. Choose aftermarket wheels carefully; sometimes light, inexpensive wheels can be problematic. The old saying about "getting what you pay for" comes to mind...

OEM alloys are the safe choice. They're not the lightest, but the car company has tested them and they're probably as durable as the stock steel wheels.

ricko
04-24-2006, 08:12 PM
Goose is right. OEM is often the safest, but not necessarily the high performance choice. IF you know how and where to buy aftermarket wheels and accessories, there is a world of better choices out there. IF.......

Thirty-Nine
04-25-2006, 09:59 AM
Don't forget that many of the OEM alloys are made by the same companies that make the aftermarket wheels (e.g. Enkei, Borbet, BBS, etc.).

why?
04-25-2006, 10:09 AM
There is no be secret to buying aftermarket wheels. If you don't know the brand name, don't buy it.

As for some brand names that are worth looking into, check out tirerack.com. Also note Ray's Engineering, http://www.mackinindustries.com/md/index.html
anything they make will be very good quality.

And some oem wheels are worth it if you know what to look for. The stock 14" wheels from the 1982 Toyota Supra weighed about 8 lbs. Sadly though the bolt pattern is 4X115.

And one last thing, any of the wheels imported from japan should be pretty high quality, it would be silly for them to import junk wheels from japan.

Thirty-Nine
04-25-2006, 11:37 AM
Another good place to check out is www.discounttiredirect.com. I've bought several sets of wheels/tires from them.

Keep in mind wheels from Rays are über expensive.

I really haven't heard any horror stories about alloy wheels on cars, other than say, the clearcoat peeling or the wheels beginning to oxidizde. That or bending wheels via potholes, but that can happen to the strongest of wheels (ala Rays' Volk Racing wheels).

Many of the less-expensive wheels can be pretty heavy, but are usually pretty strong. Many of the wheels come out of the same factories, but get different centercaps, too. There are actually relitively few wheel manufacturers compared the the amount of brands on the market.

There is a website listed here somewhere (oztoyota.com I think), but I might try to go through my dealer. I don't know if the front bumper on the Oz Yaris is the same, though that MIGHT not matter since it is just a spoiler.

No. You have to find a site to host the pic.

I use http://www.theimagehosting.com/
to host my pics.

Then the site will give you a link to your pic, which you paste into the reply window, and that should work.

You can use the Paperclip in the toolbar to upload pictures. No need to use a host site for your pictures

I just added this animated picture to show you it can be done---->494

*Find a picture you want from your hard drive and upload it here using the paperclip above, once you upload just click on file in the upload window and it will appear in your post window as an attachment but will show up as a picture once you save your post*

umm trd sticker doesn't make it a trd wheel, but i could be wrong...and why a wider tire on the rear of a front wheel drive car??

Ron
06-13-2006, 10:58 AM
^ its not a sticker, TRD is embossed into the lip of the wheel.

i have a 195 on the front because i got a great deal on a pair of slightly used yokohamas up front. 205's in the rear because tirerack was selling them for stupid cheap. that 10mm extra width barely makes a difference visually, and the car will not be driven anywhere near the limits. its a commuter car

Here's a Canadian 2007 Yaris with the dealer installed Eibach springs which lower it about an inch or so but most importantly, stiffen up the ride which improves handling. The Borla exhaust is a cat-back 2" mandrell bent with twin pipes. Nice sound and (better) performance? Jury still out on that one.:iono:

I got them on eBay and they're from a company called Unique Graphics (www.uniquegraphics.co.uk (http://www.uniquegraphics.co.uk)).

It took me about an hour to put them on.. I knew exactly where I wanted them before I even placed them and I wanted them to have a wave look, but just on one side of the car. I didn't use soap and water or anything to help with the placement (heard you could do that?..)

Now my Yaris is def better than my boyfriend's bro's g/f's Pacific Blue Sedan  Haha

im selling the mini cooper wheels and i will just stick with my gsr wheels. i guess 17 inches is too big for me and my mpg decreases. had a day off today so i took my car to the dealer to install my mudflaps and painted the wheels gold after...

Thanks for the info solarvitz. I am looking at getting new wheels for my Yaris, I am looking at 16 inch wheels and I found a few that I like but a better selection of rims are made in 17 inches, and I was thinking of maybe going 17 but not if my milage will suffer. Now I am even thinking of going with 15 inch wheels.

yo bro you can go 17's without losing mpg..as long as you get the lighter rims close to the 15's weight.. echo hrs i believe has one..

Do you know which rim companies make lightweight wheels. I am familiar with Gram Lights, but I dont want to spend close to $300 a wheel. I am looking at spending the most $150 per wheel.
Do you know what the weight is of the factory steel 15 inch wheel?

check echo hrs page.. my experience is that alot of company sells the same type of rims they just used their own brand name on the middle cap.. my suggestion is bring a scale to the rims store and weight the rims you like..chose 3-4 types and buy the lightest one. id say 17 lbs or less is good.

That smart is a clown car. For all the sacrifices you make with that little bomb you still barely get 40 mpg. I'd consider it with 60mpg which is what it should be capable of.

I installed new parts in my Vitz.
They're very simple parts.
But they prevent water from invading the engine-room.

It's been around a year since I picked up my Yaris and I figured i'd update with some of the additions i've made to the car to make it a bit nicer!

http://img717.imageshack.us/img717/594/img0112tz.jpg
It was Christmas in April from Tirerack!

http://img717.imageshack.us/img717/3637/img0118kr.jpg
Gone are the stock steelies with bicycle tires!

http://img62.imageshack.us/img62/2158/img0109kt.jpg
A swaybar from Microimage! Almost a necessity for the Yaris!

http://img153.imageshack.us/img153/8374/img0106yf.jpg
An AFE intake from Microimage! Not much in the butt dyno but the car sounds less like an angry lawnmower now!

http://img413.imageshack.us/img413/9489/img0119e.jpg
Rally spoiler and a good tinting for the hot, hot arizona sun!

Overall i've been pretty happy with the Yaris and I hope to keep improving it a little at a time. Next step? My first autocross event in a little over 3 weeks. Here's hoping I can represent the Blazing Blues proud!

Haha not to take over the thread but one last Blazing Blue update for awhile.

Cross-posted from the auto-x video thread:

Took the Yaris out to my first auto-x this last weekend! Was a blast and had nothing but positive remarks from everyone there. Managed a 50.898 in my final run which put me in the middle third. Not too shabby!
Final run here-

I'm not going to lower it.
Because... lower it, hit the bottom or front spoiler XP

私は愛知県(Aichi Prefecture)に住んでいます。
伊丹空港(Itami Airport)は大阪府(Osaka Prefecture)にあるので
300kmくらい離れていますね。私も海外のYaris Userの皆さんと会ってみたいです。

He's running on his new Tein coilover setup. I too would like to know the wheel/tire/offset combo.

Would this be that combo? 15 in Kosei K1 rims and 205/50 Yokohama S Drive tires

Thanks
