Ok, so today I took my 2007 Sedan, into get that recall seatbelt issue fixed, by the way, I havent noticed any difference in outside noice. I was told that my water pump was malfuctioning an they have to replace it, even though the car never showed me the check engine light, the toyota person told me, that it wasnt a big issue, so I scheduled it for 2 saturdays from now. Has anyone else had this issue?, its covered under warranty, so its a free fix either way, i was just curious how commmon this was. My car has 40000 and is 2 years old. Good thing I havent gotten the water pump pulley upgrade yet.

I have a 2007 Hatchback, about 32000 miles on it, and no problem yet. i'll be curious to see what other folks have to say, though.

Hi
If the water pump need replacing it won´t put a check light in the display. It will leak water and perhaps it´s not very much, but when it´s on the guarantee it doesn´t matter.
I work at Toyota and I think we have replaced only one on the guarantee on a Toyota Yaris.

Water pump failure is not uncommonon the 2004-2006 Scion Xb's. If you check over on Scion life you will see it is actually quite common. In fact on my 2005 Xb with 59,000 mile is starting to show a little dried coolant "crust" under the weep hole, so mine is on it's way out too.
PS- Yaris and Xb have the same motor, though I'm not sure the water pump is identical...

Surprised they covered it. IIRC the water pump does not consist of the "powertrain", thus falling under the bumper-to-bumper warranty (which should have expired with that kind of mileage).

Ha, don't know too many folks who actually get those (as they are usually a rip-off).
on my last yaris the waterpump went bad with under 15ooo miles. http://www.yarisworld.com/forums/showthread.php?t=12727&highlight=waterpump+diy

36k no problems?? :S
My 2007 yaris hatchback has over 250,000 on it with all original parts minus the break pads/shoes, sparkplugs, oil filters and whatever they change during regular maintances...which we kept doing.
good little car.
Im thinking maybe the water pump is finally starting to go....a whiring sound from motor area...grindy. will check for water leaks

I'm not going to tell you it's been hundreds of thousands of miles with no problems, because I don't want to jinx myself. ;)
I am a very low mileage driver.
At around 13,000 miles my 2007 sedan had a water pump failure.
Pink spray from the front to the back of the inside hood.

what type of sound does the water pump make when it is going bad. at first i thought it was my belt but now i believe it may be the water pump i havnt notice any leaks yet though

Toyota has had some problems with their water pumps lately. the 2AZ engines, especially in Camrys and, to a lesser degree, RAV4s and others, are notorious for leaking at relatively low mileage. I had a 2-year-old Camry on my stall one time with 8,000 miles on it that needed a water pump. The 2ZR in the Corollas has also had a little trouble. If you replace that water pump, the factory water pump has a stamped-steel plate, but the new one appears to be cast aluminum. 1NZs have had fewer problems, but it's still not unheard-of.
Some people attribute this to the new Super-Long-Life coolant (the pink stuff), because they say it's thinner. I'm not convinced. I think that's just a perception, as the SLLC comes pre-diluted and the regular Long-Life (red) coolant does not.
Also, the water pump is covered under the 5-yr/60,000-mi powertrain warranty.

I'm sitting 80k miles and getting a nasty rattling noise under the hood. It sounds exactly like a video that c dub posted in another thread. I'm not getting any spray or leakage that I can tell though. Now I'm just wondering if this is something I can manage myself and where to get the pump?

wondering if any improvement has been made to the oem yaris water pump. mine is grinding and needs replacement, i have 75,000 miles on it, so out of warranty. dealership quoted $450-$500 to replace it. i do not want to replace it with another faulty oem pump unless they have improved it somehow. thinking about buying a good aftermarket pump (around $45) and paying a mechanic $150-$200 to put it on.
any toyota service people have any info? thanks

i've decided to have a local repair shop replace it. i bought a gmb water pump at advance auto parts for $40. the mechanic said he'll charge me $130 labor to install. $170 much better that $450+ from the stealership. I'm having it installed monday and will update.

btw if anyone is wondering, this gmb water pump appears to be very well made. made in japan.

I have had very good luck with GMB pumps over the years, so you shouldn't have any issues with it.

just an update. gmb water installed today and i can't believe how quiet my car is again. the belt was dry and cracked so they replaced that too (only $9).
how much for the whole job ? $$$

im at almost 100,000 miles and no problems, but whats this about a seat belt recall. i have a 2007 toyota yaris s. is it a big problem
There is some sound deadening foam pieces around the seat belt retractors.
When the Air Bags go off a charge in the retractors locks the seat belts. Sometimes the foam would start burning.
I had mine done. They removed the foam for the recall.

My yaris is also having the exact same issue as yours right now, at about 80K miles, and no leakage that can be seen right now. I'm glad to know I'm not going crazy :3

Pump began to seep at a few hundred miles before 100,000, on my 2007 HB. Noticed the coolant would get low even after re-filling, then looked under the pump and it was pink.

Ran my 2007 to 137000 and had no problem with my h20 pump. Only major problem was the rear wheel abs sensors went. If I didn't have the extended warranty it would have cost me over 1500 for the replacement sensors. Had an accident in december and totaled the car. My only concern is that I hit a guard rail at about 45 mph after sliding on black ice and the air bags never deployed. That bothered me. I now drive an moderaterly priced suv and only miss the gas mileage the yaris afforded me.
