Mine is pretty much all city. I'd like to break 40, but realistically that may not be possible. It's a goal though.

I've been doing the math for the first time lately since owning the car and I was getting horrid mileage the first time I added it up few weeks ago. Was avg about 28 mpg, that was mostly freeway driving as well with some city stop and go, shutting the car off and on alot. I've changed my taking off habits and not flooring it so much either, I've saw the mileage go up to 33 mpg mixed. I drive about 70mph on the freeway and sometimes bursts of speed up to little bit higher. City driving is alot of stop and go.
I'm guessing mpgs will go up even more once it gets a bit warmer out over here in Detroit.

I gassed up yesterday after driving from Indy to Chicago....around Chicago...and then filled up. 42.7 MPG. This is unofficial...but I try to standardize my fill up process. This was 75% interstate and 25% city. I drove 70MPH on the interstate. I was very happy about it....but unless you drive a Yaris...you don't care.

Have you switched to synthetic oil yet?

Nope, I've been using Castrol GTX 5w-30. I was told that's what comes in these Yaris engines from the factory. I'm partial to Castrol GTX anyways from having to do with rotary engines and that it's quality oil.

I would recommend switching to Synthetic. It make a small difference in your mileage and provides much better protection.

I agree synthetic will often provide 1% to 2% better MPG. However, you are dead wrong about the "much better protection" over using mineral oil (dino). Too many Used Oil Analysis tests prove you wrong. The wear number differences are way too small, too insignificant. Now the one great thing about synthetic is that using them can allow you to safely extend your oil change intervals over dino. For example you could go 7,000 - 10,000 and beyond with certain synthetics. I would not go more then 5,000 with dino, however.

I don't know. Common sense is that an oil that reduces operating temperature like synthetic oil will extend engine life. Extended life is a direct by product of better protection.

Yeah, SilverGlow needs to find a dino oil that flows at -54 degrees f (Castrol GTX is -31 degrees)
And passing around 10K mile OCI advice is dumb unless it's followed with a footnote about the car already being out of warranty.
IMO, don't listen to any oil advice given out by SilverGlow, ever...he's still using and advising others to use 0W-20 oil in the Yaris eventho' the TSB that Toyota issued couldn't be more clear about not using 0W-20 in the Yaris NZ 1.5

I've been getting 38 mpg for my tanks here in below 32 weather. I just made a trip up to Chicago and I got 40 mpg on that trip again below 32 weather. My best tank is 43 mpg spring '08

I am planning on switching my OEM spark plugs and putting in some Bosch plugs...some quad platium plugs that are supposed to get a few extra MPG. My dream is to get 50 MPH....and drive 70MPH. I CAN DREAM CAN'T I?

I was getting 44mpg with conventional oil. I've switched to synthetic in the same weight and now I'm getting 40mpg. Go figure. But right when I made this switch a week ago the weather turned cold again and we lost about 20 degrees on our daily highs-I'm hoping that's the reason.

Synthetic is the best way to go. I can tell you with certainty, the Yaris didn't come from the factory with Castrol in them. Make the switch to synthetic, best thing you can do for the life of the car.

My last blinking light was at 480 miles.. I still have the picture.. one day I wanna ride out on a road trip with a gas can.. and max it out..320 is not normal unless your peeling out every 6 seconds..and doing crazy city mileage.
